  1. That is a very generous offer Ron, I will definitely keep that in mind
  2. All the encouragement I am getting from the guys on the forum, I think I will start heading in the direction of reloading. I've never been a big fan of the step up process though, the Super 1050 is where I want to end up, so the Super 1050 is where I would like to start. It seems an awful waste of money to me to buy a whole machine just to learn on. I'm sure the learning curve is steeper with the 1050, but I hoping with some research and help from others I will be able to get it figured out and ammo in the bag. Very happy to see that I now have a back up plan with Doug at DC Ammo now offer 9Major ammo!
  3. Thank you for taking the time to write all that out. A lot of good tips and advice for me to work on.
  4. It is a very big help to me to get recommendations from people who have experience with both units. Thank you for taking the time to give your input
  5. Found it Aircooled6racer, thanks for the tip.
  6. I will look now, thank you
  7. As a new shooter to competition sports I would be interested in any tips or suggestions on stage prep. I can walk through the stage and visualize a plan, count thru targets and decide when I want to execute reloads and set up a decent game plan in my head, but once that buzzer goes of I start charging into the stage I almost instantly realize I have forgotten my whole plan. At that point I am just kind of running through the targets winging it. Still a great deal of fun, but not very effective when I end up forgetting one or two targets. Any tips or strategies would be greatly appreciated.
  8. I have checked out DC Ammo and I am not finding the 9major. Can you tell me where to find it on the site, and what is it labeled?
  9. I am glad you found it useful. I have been helped by folks on this forum more than I can possibly describe. Always try to pay it forward. Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any specific questions. I will do that drysideshooter, thanks again.
  10. I really appreciate the time and thought you put into your response. I found it to be very informative and helpful.
  11. What is the RF 100? Is that the bullet feeder, primer feeder, or something else?
  12. I bought an STI Eagle 40 S&W bushing barrel because I wanted to set it up to compete in IDPA and in the Limited division in USPSA. If I had been buying a pistol solely for USPSA I would have bought the Edge because I prefer the look of a full dust cover, and bull barrel
  13. This is a great analysis, I use the UA cold weather gear as my base layer and a snowboarding jacket with a gortex shell and I am able maintain a pretty even body temp throughout the day. The funny thing is it keeps me cool going down the hill when I am at my most active and have the greatest potential to start sweating, and it keeps me warm up the mountain when I am just sitting there on the ski lift in the freezing wind. I also recommend the tight base layer to keep down on bulk and allow ease of movement. Especially important when shooting.
  14. This was one of the reasons it took me so long to get into Open, I didn't want to start reloading. I got a free Hornady Lock and Load at the CMMG match in MO and was in less than $100 with dies and a shell plate. It was easier reloading than I thought it would be and the ammo is as good or better than what I can buy as long as I pay attention. But I still prefer getting my ammunition pre-assembled, so 9mm minor for me unless necessary. Doug I have heard that from many people now about reloading not being difficult, I think if this is going to be at all practical I am just going to have to "Bite the Bullet" and commit to reloading ammo. If for not other reason, just the fact I am having such a hard time finding 9Major ammo. I actually have another topic open right now in the Miscellaneous BEginners forum trying to help me decide what model of press to get. I'm leaning towards the super 1050 because im not really worried about the price and want something that requires the least amount of effort on my part.
  15. My buddy has really been trying hard to convince me to start reloading so I’ve been looking into it. I’m just really not thrilled about the idea of buying all the equipment, setting it up, trying to figure out how it works, what kind of load I need, tinkering around with the load when it isn’t what I wanted. For me that is the down side of this sport, I love sending bullets down range, I don’t really want to have to fuss about how they are made before they start their journey.
  16. So the reason I have brought this question before the forum is because I currently do not reload my ammo. It has been somewhat difficult even to locate a good place to buy 9 major ammo much less the price difference from buying factory minor vs major. Because of these factors I wanted to shoot minor whenever possible such as practice and smaller matches. However I completely agree with all your suggestions of practicing with what you intend to shoot.
  17. At this point I am not really worried about the money. What I am concerned with is getting the best quality machine that will allow me to do the least amount of work. What I am really looking for is a machine that I can get the initial setup done and then pull the handle a couple thousand times to fill up my ammo bag. If the only down fall the 1050 quick change has over the XL 650 is time the time to change it out, I don’t really see that as a problem provided I follow the advice to load in bulk before switching calibers. Thank you for the feedback
  18. Iv'e got a new 9MM open gun I am expecting anytime now and I was wondering what others are doing as far as ammo. I would like to shoot 9 minor while practicing at the range and for smaller matches, and save the major ammo for the bigger matches. However I have heard many stories as well as had personal experience with 9 minor ammo not feeding into the barrel very well. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried replacing the the 9 major guide rod with a softer set up? Iv'e been told the reason for the failure to feed stems from the minor ammo not having enough power to cycle the slide correctly therefore not allowing it to load the next round properly. Looking for advice.
  19. I have competed in 3 Gun matches and don't get me wrong they were great fun, but I am definately a pistol man. I don't know if my lack of skill with a rifle is to blame, because I am not that impressive to watch with a pistol either. The difference for me is that with the pistol I want to get better.
  20. According to the Dillon pages on the Enos site, the XL 650 is the recommended machine if you are going to be reloading multiple calibers. I am curious how the 650 differs from the 1050 in that aspect. It seems to me, a complete novice to reloading, that if the Super 1050 can be set up with a quick change the same as the XL 650, then they should both be similarly efficient at reloading multiple calipers. I have multiple pistols and I have been shooting for a while now, I am looking at getting into reloading not so much because of the money, but because I have a 9MM open gun comming and finding ammo has been a problem so far. I also have an STI .40 S&W Limited gun, so if I am going to start reloading it makes sense to load for both. I would appreciate any feed back on the subject. Todd
