  1. It is not necessarily a big problem, especially for typical 3 gun distances. I recommend first to find the moa or mil amount of drop for each stadia line in your scope, and then to run the numbers for your load through a ballistic calculator (such as http://www.handloads.com/calc/, many others available), and then finally doing some testing on the range to confirm what the calculator says.

For instance, I was previously using a USO SN4 with the Lund reticle. Its calibrated for the 69gr SMK @ 2850fps, but I found that my 55gr load matched up very closely out to 400 yards.

  2. Found out there was no He-man optic division so went and ordered a Prismatic for He-man irons. Now I find out there are only 3, maybe less, in that division, so there won't be a He-man irons division either.

What the heck is going on?

That 3 He-Man shooters is down to 1 now; the other two switched. I get the feeling that there's enough shooters going to the match that would like to shoot He-Man to meet the minimum, but each one thinks there won't be enough.

So who out there would be shooting a He-Man division if they knew for sure there would be one?

  3. how are you liking the AR Gold trigger in 308? I have one om y 223 match rifle and enjoy it very much.

Did you build from bare receivers?

The 308 AR Gold feels just like my 223 version, flawless.

I built off a Mega receiver set. JP internals, Rock Creek barrel.

  4. So you are saying that the shell is not being lifted by the carrier?

If that's the case, my M2 had the same issue. Solution was to spread apart the tabs of the carrier. The carrier tabs had an inside width of about .637 or so and I believe I opened them up to about .642 and all was better. Note, I was only having the issue with the same 3.25 dram AA's and other heavy shells, not with lighter loads.

  5. I have a SN-4 w/ Lund reticle. I went with it over the Swaro for several reasons, to include the reticle, which I prefer to the BRT-I, it seemed a bit less cluttered. The 69gr SMK's do match up as advertised (tested as far out as 550 with decent wind), and my 55gr load is almost exact too (haven't tested past 400).

Daylight bright is a non issue for me, and the USO is bright enough to be useful on overcast days if needed.

The scope does seem more robust than most, and that's reflected in its weight which is usually a few more ounces than most 1-4's. Mine's in a Bobro mount so I don't know of any issues with a Larue. It does have a large magnification adjustment ring (about 1.85" if I recall), so there are limited options for scope levers. I use an IHT lever from Chris Patty that I dremeled to fit, and another gent posted recently that he uses a Burris MGM lever on the front portion of the ring (slightly smaller diameter).

If I had to choose again I'd still go with the USO over the Swaro. The Meopta is a great choice too, one of the best for the price. I just don't care for the reticle as much.

  6. Long range rifle always makes matches more enjoyable for me too. I've only shot 1 major match: 2011 Fallen Brethren, and the long rifle stage (#9) was by far the most fun for me.

An aspect of long range rifle I like isn't necessarily that the target is x yards away and y inches in size, but rather that it adds another element of thinking into the game based upon said target's distance, size, elemental conditions, and time constraints.
