  1. As I said, I don't care about "illegal" stages at a club match, but when someone points it out, take it as constructive criticism. Your point about "illegal is only illegal...." is just wrong. Did you shoot indoor nationals? There was 1 illegal stage. It was thrown out. What stages are you talking about? USPSA smiling? About area 6? And who was talking about USPSA anyway? That's a different forum.
  2. I read this thread closely. I don't often comment on this stuff. But I will. Yes the rule are what they are. I shoot IDPA A LOT and like it. However, it does get VERY VERY frustrating when we are all shooting different matches because of inconsistent calls or understanding of rules. To run a good match it is critical that all the SOs agree on what will be called during the SO walk through. If the shooter is here they are in cover, it they are here they are not. etc It is sort of like baseball, players live with a weird strike zone AS LONG AS IT IS CONSISTENT! When a ball suddenly because a strike people get upset. I think a lot of the complaints are frustration coming out. Many of us are highly competitive people and yes it does matter to a competitor if they get a bogus PE. I actually left a match today because it was run poorly, the stages were boring (one was illegal, not that it matters at a club match but maybe when someone mentions it for future reference the MD can do better than "3 masters set it up") the SOs were clueless, ricochets on one stage were pelting the hell out of us, it sucks getting hit in the face and throat by jackets. You need at least ONE SO that actually knows the rules and people that know how to set up safe stages. A major problem is a lack of training within clubs to educate people that volunteer to SO. Anyway. $20, over 2 hours of driving and all I got was a lot of aggravation.
  3. Hola Amigos! I just got a brand spanking new 929 and want to dress her up real nice. I am looking for suggestions on optics for ICORE and Steel Challenge. Discuss.... Thanks.
  4. It's funny you would say that. Maybe the same people who would carry Glock 34s, STI Eagles and full-size 1911s. It's rare that you see people shooting true carry guns in IDPA. Certainly not the serious competitors. In fact, it's so rare that IDPA actually has a sub-category of BUG guns (and occasional matches for them) just to get people to use real carry stuff. Nah. The idea of IDPA using real world carry equipment is just that. An idea. But it's not reality. people actually carry G34s...Vogel carries a G35....and 1911s.
  5. THIS! and evidently some people need a reality check. very disappointed to see this topic actually getting SUPPORT!!! COME ON MAN!!!
  6. are you saying that you are running around your backyard with live ammo doing dry fire? terrifying.
  7. For USPSA single stack and IDPA. In .45 ACP. Help me decide.
  8. any thoughts on a Colt Combat Elite in comparison to the STI offerings?
  9. impossible for the RO to see ANYTHING on the left side.
  10. Never had to DQ a shooter before, but had my first recently. I asked the squad before we started if there were any new shooters, the one person to raise their hand was a woman that shot the match really safely and did a grey job as a newbie while battling through MANY malfunctions. The problem was two guys that showed up and were "very experienced", giving advice to all in ear shot. Too tacticool to tape too. On the first stage one of them begins to draw his gun while walking to the start position. He got the gun about 95% out of the holster before I stopped him. I watch the gun obsessively. We had a chat and I asked him if he was new. "No, I shoot IPSC all the time and you are allowed to do that-bullshit- I only shot a couple of IDPA matches". Yeah right. Anyway, the ASO and I decided to let him continue. with a stern warning. I should have DQ'd him right there. In fact I will never NOT DQ someone again and here is why. A few stages later he muzzled me during a reload. Right handed shooter engaging targets on the right side of a barricade, had to switch to the left side. I moved to his left side to be able to see what he was shooting on the left. When he did that he was at slide lock but so close to the barricade that he turned the gun up range basically AT MY FACE. I actually ducked. Luckily it was in slide lock and empty, I stopped him before he even got the mag off his belt. DQ. I was not a happy camper and calmly explained what he had done and that he would be going home. He too it ok. I asked him why he lied about begin a new shooter. No answer. I don't understand the ego piece. I resent it. I will NEVER cut anyone any slack ever again.
  11. I think you did a great job! Practice reloads during dry fire and keeping the gun in your line of sight as much as possible, especially when reloading. Stage planning helps too, I stink at it but alas..... In the first video, it looked like at the very end you could have engaged all targets on the right and through the port from the position just by setting up back from the port a bit. Taking the closest position all the time will slow you down, so practice distance shots.
  12. Folks: Thanks for all the advice, it is all much appreciated and exceptionally educational. I will try the JM springs and if that doesn't work I'll think about the shim mods. Take care!!!
  13. Hi Folks: I am trying to improve the trigger pull on my 686-8 (frame mounted firing pin) and have tried the Wolff Type 2 main spring. I can not get it to work. I have switched to federal primers, am reseating them, but I keep getting light primer strikes. Sometimes I get a good solid hit on the primer, then sometimes it looks like it is barely dented. This happens reproducibly. I have installed an extended firing pin and reduced weight firing pin spring and the hammer is bobbed. It seems like I can't get 100% unless I am in the 7-9 lb pull range. At the moment I am pretty close to 8 but switched back to the original main spring and backed out the strain screw, which I am not so happy to have to do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. John
  14. Kimbertarget talks so much trash he ought to play cornerback for the Seahawks......
  15. Well, it hardly goes in at all. It will seat a primer, but you can not crush seat with it. I use range brass, but have tried all different types, so it's not a pocket issue. I think you are right, they changed the shape of the pins so you can't get it to seat deeper. My buddy has one that I've used, worked great. Ordered this one, no dice. In fact the quality looks like it went down too. I am beginning to think that their legal advisors helped them make a "safer" tool. LOL I guess I'll go for a K&M. Bummer…..
  16. unfortunately not, there is only one way you can put it in. It seems like they flared the end so that it can only go so far into the primer pocket. I guess I could flair it so it goes deeper, but I think I rather just buy a better tool.
  17. I just bought one to crush seat primers on .38 special loads. There are two problems, first, it will not crush fit the primers, they seem to have redesigned the tool that limits the ability of the pin to get into the primer pocket. The pin is tapered just enough to get "normal" priming, but will not go deep enough to crush prime. The second issue is that the pin protrudes up in a way so that it will NOT feed primers from the tray. I prime on my 550b, but this seems to suggest poor quality. Any advice? Am I doing something wrong? Should I go for the umber expensive sinclair tool? Thanks in advance.
  18. YOU sir, are a BOSS!!! Stay thirsty my friend.
  19. solid. it's the little things that aren't so little.
  20. good point. usually i try not to, but i had to tuck in to avoid exposing myself to targets on my right.
  21. Thank you sir! I really need to be WAY more disciplined on dry fire practice. When you do the math that way, makes a lot of sense. My hits are good, but I really do feel like I waste a lot of time. So I totally concur. I think I may do a day dry fire commitment.....260 days over a year (5 days a week). Take care time was 16.86, down 6. not great, but not totally awful. I agree with you guys. I need to stop lowering the gun so much and get disciplined.......

  23. Trying to become a better shooter. My buddy Nick took this of me. Any pointers?
  24. interesting you mention that, i hardly ate all day and it was the last stage. Was feeling a bit drained.
