  1. Yep, that's exactly what I'm seeing and that makes perfect sense. So short of replacing the mags, is there a fix? I don't think there are spacers for these mags, and I'm loading to 1.15", which as I understand it is within .02 of the published max OAL for 9mm (1.169), so I can't load too much longer.
  2. Feed ramp is highly polished. We ran the gun at a local match today with a couple of modified EAA witness mags that we borrowed from another shooter and it ran fine using our Berry's 124gr plated HPs. I think there is just too much room in these Caspian mags. I guess we'll see if the Caspian 9mm mags I ordered are any better.
  3. I don't know the difference between the new and old style, but yes these do have the quick change base pad.
  4. I'm using plated hollow points loaded to a 1.15 OAL. Not sure what the max OAL for 9mm is, but there is a lot of room left at the front of these mags. This ammo cycles fine out of an XDm though.
  5. This is a new gun that originally was .38SA but I had it rebarreled to 9mm. The mags are marked .38SA and I asked in an earlier thread if they would work with 9mm and the concensus seemed to be yes. However if I put more than about 12 rounds in them, the rounds start tilting forward and the top round nose dives HARD into the bottom of the feed ramp. Any idea on what's causing this or how to fix it? Thanks.
  6. I am reading Brian's book right now and he addresses the thumb contact issue very well toward the beginning of the book. Thumb pressure can steer the muzzle by creating a non-neutral grip. It's best to keep thumbs off the gun so that your grip allows the front sight to track naturally up and down out of the rear sights. This is something I am working on in my shooting as well. It's a habit I've developed and I'm learning my way away from it.
  7. My shooting season is gonna be real short if I can't find some bullets soon. Anybody know of any company that is shipping right now?
  8. I've tried to pickup the sites as they pistol is coming up but it's moving way to fast. It isn't eye level until its on target either. Sure I can't see the gun coming up into view but I can't find and focus and adjust the site picture as the gun is going that fast. You must learn to pre-focus your eyes at that distance. You said a mouthful there. This is something I am struggling with in my dryfire drills. After I draw, it takes me a moment to bring the front sight into clarity so that I can really track it. That moment is probably a half second, which means if I'm being fully honest with myself about my draw times, it makes my .6-ish draw a 1.1-ish draw by the time I'm really ready to pull the trigger.
  9. After turning off my computer last night, I decided I liked this better... Learning to shoot in a state of mind that allows you to call every shot may be the most important thing. I truly wish I knew what that meant.
  10. Well, I can honestly say this is the first match where I purposefully just "went fast and damn the consequences". The results prove that I'm wasting my time if I do it again, so to answer your question, I'll say "none".
  11. Thanks Steve. I was hoping I'd hear from you. On a couple of the stages, I remember thinking afterward, "Steve would kick my butt if I told him what I saw on that stage while I shot it." You're exactly right that my decision to "go fast" was equally a decision to abandon all of the stuff I learned in your class and I got exactly what I strived for...a fast stage, and nothing else.
  12. I shot my first match of the season last weekend and all in all it was a disaster. I made B class at the last match of the season last year (December) and have been dry firing once or twice a week, but not near as much as I should be, I know. I made a decision to push my speed at this match. My times were on par with the top 10 shooters overall, which were GM/M/A guys. The flip side is that I had quite a few mikes and one or two no shoot penalties that put me finishing 14th out of 23 shooters in Limited division and 47th of 94 shooters overall. On one stage, I finished 5th overall behind Todd Jarret and a couple of A shooters. Then on another stage I finished 82nd of 94. So....wild inconsistency in my shooting. I'm clearly shooting faster than I can see and I'm not calling my shots. My question for you all is, should I try to "see faster" and keep my speed up, or slow down so I can see more?
  13. I am having my Caspian double-stack .38SA rebarreled to 9mm. Will the .38SA mags I have work with 9mm? I see that Caspian lists two different part numbers for 9mm and .38 mags...so wondering if there is any "backwards compatibility". Thanks.
  14. Thanks jd. I think you meant 'moving to B class'...but A in 2013!
  15. My son's XDm9 5.25 has run flawlessly since we got it last Christmas. At a 3 gun match last weekend, the fiber-optic on the front sight fell off into his hand while it was in his holster. What's the best way to reinstall it? One of the guys I shoot with (Thanks Bill!) heated the end of the fiber up with a lighter and flattened it and it stayed in place for the remainder of the match. Is that the preferred method of installation of these little fiber optic posts?
  16. I have a good load worked up for the MG 124gr JHPs and have had very good experience with them. I have an opportunity to purchase a couple of K of the Berry's bullets. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I should consider these bullets "interchangeable" in regards to maintaining my current recipe and making PF safely. My MG recipe (3.8gr. of titegroup, 1.11" COAL) gets me a safe 129-131 PF. Do I need to break the chrono out with this proposed bullet change?
  17. I would rather "shoot well" when the benchmark of "well" is my own prior performance. If that means I "win", so be it. Otherwise, I will have placed exactly where I earned.
  18. I've been banging away with my bone stock XDm 5.25 now and after today's match, I think I've finally made B class. I've been thinking about upgrading to a 1911 style gun and man there are a LOT of options out there!!! I'm curious what you guys with some of the nice 1911 Limited guns think the best platform is or mods that are "must have's". i.e. if you could put any Limited gun or mod item on your wish list, what would it be?
  19. I have 4 XDm's. My son and I both shoot 5.25's in USPSA, he in 9mm and I in .40. Neither of them has EVER given us a lick of trouble and we have thousands and thousands of rounds downrange between the two. Our backup guns are XDM 4.5's in the same calibers, both were used extensively before our 5.25's came along and neither of those EVER gave us a lick of trouble. I own an XD9 that I carried for a good long while, an XD40 that I now carry daily, and an XD45 I carry when I feel like it. Thousands of rounds downrange between those guns and none have EVER given me a lick of trouble. I guess what I'm saying is that XDs are reliable, good shooting guns that I compete with and trust my life to. Buy with confidence.
  20. Hey Brian. The SA in .38SA is "Super Auto". It is VERY similar to SuperComp, but a slightly different case spec. I'm actually about $500 under what it was suggested I list this thing for, but I want to move it to fund some 3-gun gear.
