  1. I think "see sights lift" is more consistent with your way 1. With your way 2 you will run into the danger of "periscoping" where you will look for the next targets through the sights rather than seeing the next target and bringing the gun there during the field course. Kind of like tunnel vision. This is slow.

The time you are using for "peeking" during way 1 will be used for finding the next target during your transitions when you are engaging multiple target arrays.

  2. I don't need any more details, and I don't care if his house was on fire. You never, ever, not in a million years, leave a competitor unattended with a loaded gun.

Sounds like a good time to try out those RO disciplinary action items I was reading about in the last Front Sight.

  3. Wooo-Hooo!!! I needed a part today, but by the time I remembered I had already forgotten my manual at home. Guess what though ... the schematics are available on the Dillon website! So rather than call and sound like an idiot with "I need that thing on the thing that attaches to the thing that does this and that" I had a part number for them.

Dillon guy was cool as usual (even though I forgot my customer number too) and new part is on the way. I love these guys.

  4. I'd feel a whole lot better if I were shooting more like 39-40%

I think what you are feeling is natural. I felt it too at first. I am still very impatient in many ways and sometimes you can see it in my shooting. Anyway, give yourself a break right now. You are still at the point to where you need to baseline your skills. There is plenty of time to really beat yourself up later once you know how you are actually progressing and what you need to work on.

Get Steve Anderson's book, your timer, a pen, your gun, and some ammo. Head out to the range and start recording your current skill level. Then practice and track your progress. I know this sounds cliche, but if you take care of your shooting where you finish in the match will take care of itself.

  5. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOLLOWS
Course designers MUST refrain from designing courses of fire that will substantially disadvantage senior and mobility-challenged shooters.

    next define "substantially disadvantage"

  6. It refers to requiring shooters to drop to a knee when shooting around low cover, nothing else.

"nothing else" ... that's interesting. I was thinking the spirit of that rule would apply in general and would be consistent with the Spirit of IDPA. The "real world" self-defense would be the most important thing. Maybe I should read and re-read the PURPOSE & PRINCIPLES sections of the rulebook on pages 1 & 2.

I could maybe see some complaints if the dummy was really heavy, but a kneeling start with a 10-15lb dummy seems OK to me.

I think this makes it not a physical ability issue. My 90lb mother can drag a 20lb bag of rice across the floor even with the partially torn ligaments in her left shoulder.
