  1. Wow I didn't think it would be that much of a difference, at the Utah shoot it would have been about 75-80F when we chrono'd.
  2. Hi All, I have been doing some load development for my 38 Super STI DVC major loads, the following specs are what I have done so far: 124gr Montana JHP (After measuring a few they are pretty much spot on for 124gr) VV3N38 powder Winchester Small rifle primers OAL : 1.225 DVC Open gun with standard ports The following results are for the grains of powder and velocities across a CED Millennium 2 at a temp of about 60F : 9.0gr - 1411fps 9.1gr - 1415fps 9.2gr - 1443fps 9.3gr - 1446fps 9.4gr - errors What I am surprised at and would like some feedback on is that the velocities appear pretty high for the low powder quantity? I expected to have to get up into the 9.6gr range to meet the 175 PF I am chasing. There were no pressure signs with the primers however the small rifle primers can hide some of issues. I wonder whether my chrono is reading low, I chrono'd Atlanta Arms 125gr major ammo I have been using and it ran 1412fps. The following week I shot the Utah State titles and they only chrono'd 1370fps across the competition chrono and interestingly the bullet weight was only 124grs so I still made factor by 5 but closer than I thought I would have been. Any feedback would be appreciated, I still have the 115gr Montana JHP's to try and are reluctant until I understand the 124gr info above. Thanks
  3. Perfect, thanks for the info guys.
  4. Howdy, In the CCI and Winchester primers are people running small pistol or small rifle? I am changing away from Federal's where I used small rifle because the small pistol was to soft for major loads. Thanks Dave (PS I have searched the forum and couldn't find any info, lots on load data thought.)
  5. Hi Guys, In terms of primers are people running Winchester/CCI Small Pistol primers or using the small rifle primers? I am looking for a new primer with the Federal Small Rifle very difficult to find. Thanks Dave
  6. Hi Guys, With this shoot is it actually from the Thursday or is that for the RO and helpers and the competitors are the Sat and Sun? Thanks Dave (All sorted, the shoot is Sat and Sun with the RO's on Thurs and Fri.)
  7. Some quick feedback, the AA ammo arrived within about 6 days and ran perfectly through the DVC with no feeding issues for the 100 rounds I put through today. Unlike the factory ammo which just didn't have the punch of the AA ammo. Looks like we have solved the ammo problem until my reloading gear arrives, time to order a 1000 AA rounds. Thanks to everyone for their help.
  8. Thanks guys, they are quick the AA guys have already filled the order so they are on their way.
  9. Thanks guys, I just ordered some AA ammo today and will give that a run. Any idea on delivery time from ordering? ie do they have it on the shelf and ship within a few days?
  10. No worries, thanks for the info.
  11. Thanks for the quick reply EEH, can you ship ammunition within the US from state to state? We are in Nevada. We are looking forward to getting into the 3 gun as well so the research for building a AR has started!!
  12. Hi All, To cut a long story short I have just moved to the US from Australia where I shot IPSC open. My reloading gear is still travelling here so I am trying to find a hot factory load which I can run in my ST DVC open gun until I can start reloading again. Any suggestions? I am also looking into running a lighter spring in the interim to see if that will work, the gun is brand new so very tight at the moment with only having 100 rounds through it today. We ran Aguila 38 Super +P which is a 130gr pill and claims to be running at 1220 fps which is under power factor by a little. Thanks Dave
  13. Hi All, I have recently moved to the USA from Australia where I was an avid IPSC shooter. We are residing in Nevada how does it work buying secondhand firearms online from web page like www.gunsamerica.com? Do they need to be transferred through a dealer? I recently purchased a new DVC STI from a dealer in California and they sent it to local firearms dealer where I picked it up from. Thanks Dave
  14. Hi All, I am currently in New York on holidays and was hoping to buy a timer before I fly home on Tues morning. This was a last minute decision to buy a timer due to buying lots of other parts while over here on holidays. Can anyone suggest a company/shop to deal with who would be able to deliver one by Monday arvo to my hotel? Thanks
  15. Hi All, I am an Australian heading to the US for 5 weeks and was hoping to find a range that I can hire a 50bmg to shoot on. Where I live in Aus they are banned so we don't have access to this caliber unless we are in the army. We are flying into LA then driving the loop through Vegas, upto San Fran then back down to LA. I am also considering driving down into Arizona if there is a range close to shoot at. In terms of shooting I have shot pistols and rifles for about 16 years, at the moment I primarily shoot IPSC and hunt with the rifles. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  16. Hi All, I fixed the issue, i think it was a combination of something fouling the ejector and the grease I was using on the slide wasn't allowing it to move properly. I gave the slide and ejector a really good clean with action blaster and cleaned off all of the Tetra grease on the slide. Then I used engine oil as lubrication which was suggested by my gunsmith and it hasn't missed a beat since. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. Cheers
  17. Hi All, I completed the Bearing mod to the shell plate a few months ago and it works great for stopping the flicking of the cases. My only problems is that black spring, which is located after station 5 and guides the completed round out of the shell plate and down the ramp is moving. 1 in maybe 15 rounds the end on the outer edge which sticks down into a hole comes out the hole and won't direct the new round out so the handle becomes firm. I then push the top of the round with my finger and it slides down the ramp. Did anyone else experience this issue and have any ideas of fixes? I have tried bending the longest length down slightly so that more of the end sits in the hole. Cheers
  18. Thanks for all of the feedback. No burs on breech or ramp face, both spotlessly clean and unmarked. I initially thought that it may be a mag issue however it is doing it with all 5 mags and started with all 5 mags at the same time. After thinking the odds of it being an issue with all 5 mags being slim I checked the mag well and it doesn't appear to have been moved. The extractor is something I hadn't thought about until you guys mentioned it. I can hold a round and manually pass it through the gap between the extractor and the breach face. If there was an extractor issue would this still occur? What is the best way to check? I am currently running Super comp brass, as a trial would just normal 38 super brass make a difference for the extractor if there was an issue? The pistol is setup with an Aftec extractor. I took it out today with the shorter length rounds and freshly cleaned again with no success. It still won't push the round through when you initially cycle the slide, every so often it will. It seems to get better as you manually cycle through the rounds in the mag until you get down to the last few. When shooting no change just jams every shot. I have been wondering whether it has been a combination of the spring becoming lighter and not enough powder to pull the slide back to the stops before coming forward. I have been running 8grs AP100 (Austalian powder which should chrono at 1400fps without compensator) with a 125gr Conical.
  19. Hi All, I have a 2011 Framed STI race gun which has fired under 1000 rounds. Up until this weekend the gun has performed flawlessly with no issues at all, I have run the same 125gr conical proj with the same powder for all of its short life. This weekend I headed down to the range for a practice run on friday and the STI wouldn't cycle properly. The symptoms are: - Load mag with the usual 10 rounds (restricted in Australia.) - Slide mag into STI, click off the safety, rack the slide using the rack bar. - Slide comes all of the way back manually, let go of the racking bar. - Slide moves forward picks up the back off the shell and pushes it forward into the ramp at the breach. - Round stays against the ramp until I either apply light pressure to back of the slide or use a screw driver to lift the front of the proj a little bit. - Fire the first shot, STI cycles the slide then as the slide comes forward it does the same thing with the round hitting the ramp. It does this with every round in all five mags, every so often it will get a run on and may cycle two or three shots but this was very rarely across the 150 odd rounds I fired. What has me clueless is that i haven't changed anything from the previous weekend when the pistol ran really perfectly. The only thing I did was clean it the same way I always have. Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for? So far I have: - Checked the total length of the round, I usually run this at 1.250in it had snuck out to 1.265in so I brought it back. Didn't fix the issue, but may have improved. - The brass has been reloaded 3 or 4 times so tried some brand new brass. Didn't fix the issue. Thanks for any advice. Cheers
  20. Thanks for the advice guys, i'll try both. The rear sight is a good idea, if I change it to an after market open site can I still use it in production class?
  21. Hi All, I have a GK custom which I have only put around 1500 rounds through it and have enjoyed it as my stock class gun. My only issue is that some parts seems to rattle loose every 100 rounds or so, primarily the grip screws, the mag well screw and worst one is the rear site screw unwinds itself. The grips are a pain but I can live with that, the rear site is a nightmare because as you go through the day shooting the shots slowly climb on the target. I have tried using good quality tape across the top of the screw which sort of works. Has anyone experience this or have any suggestions? Cheers
  22. Great news SSTim, I have emailed Missy so hopefully mine have also arrived at Grafs!!
  23. Grafs have been great, this is my second order through them. I live in Australia so it is always difficult to deal across the net/emails however Missy has helped me out heaps. The die I have ordered is the HRN095330 which is the 380/9mm, on Grafs website it appears that they are completely out of all the Bullet Feeder calibres so there must be a run coming soon. I am really looking forward to being able ot run both the bullet and case feeder on the XL650, it should make it a lot quicker!! Cheers
  24. Hi CocoBolo, I have ordered my die along with the bullet feeder from Grafs however they are unsure as to when the dies will be delivered. It is getting close to a month now and was just wondering whether any one had heard when Hornady was going to do another production run. Cheers
  25. SSTim, I tried contacting Hornady to find out when the next batch of these dies are going to produced. I have found a few guys who are using them so there must have been a first batch already made. Cheers
