  1. I left a bulge in my 40 rds but mine were not sever at all. I could see it and feel it. They chambered and shot fine. After I reset my die the brass came out fine. But the wise thing to do is tear them back down and reuse the projectiles and brass and your only out 5-8 bucks on primers and powder. It's cheaper than replacing the gun or worse
  2. I have been loading on my own now for over a year. I just bought my first 45 and right after I bought a quick change conversion kit for it. Change over is a breeze on the 550. I switch for 40 to 38 often and that is done in about 3 mins. I use a blow gun to clean the press when I switch. Now I am getting set up for 45 and I do not like the fact that I have to switch over the primer size.I do not know anyone that uses small primer 45 brass but for right now Its worth looking into. but the best idea I have heard is set up the press and run rounds till your out not I have enough for now. and then switch calibers. I started out on a rcbs w/piggyback and it was nice. I have often thought of expanding my setup to include another press. I have thougtht about buying another 550 and leaving it set up for large primers and one for small. then my other thought was to get a 650 and set that up for small primers since that is what I shoot the most. and leave the 550 set up for large primers. I bought the 45 because I can find all kinds of brass for it. but not small primer brass. If i had it to do all over again I would buy the 650. at this point it will do everything you would like it to do. I shoot alot of 223 I won't reload them because they are too cheap to buy. but I still collect the brass and but them in lots of 500 and store them into a airtight container till it becomes smart for me to reload them.
  3. Thanks for the feedback

    HK45 mags

Does anyone know if the usp 45 mags fit the hk45?
  6. Yes I know all of this but I have never seen the fire pin inside he slide and that is where my original question started Tks for posting the video though.
  7. On my ar my extractor pulls the rim off the steel cases and leaves it jammed in the chamber. He said not to replace the whole bolt carrier just replacing the bolt would take care of that problem. Now I'm not very wise with these matters but if I get the replacement bolt and it works then great. Of not then I'm just out the $70 bucks. Any other thoughts.
  8. I was talking to a guy at the range that has put a few ar's together and he told me to try and get a replacement bolt for my at and it should do fine running steel. My thoughts are pay $70 for a new bolt and run steel at about $250 a k or stick with the bolt I have and run brass at 350 a k I'm just in this because I really like to shoot. I reload because I like to shoot. I have not gotten into reloading 223 because of the price of steel. I am not shooting more than 100 yds. If I go to the range and go through 600 rds in an hour. I might of hit my target 30% of the time but I will go home with a smile on my face. Bad day of shooting beats a good day at work
  9. I have only shot a few thousand rounds through a bushmaster in 223 wolf. The problem I have with it is I shoot one mag fine, then i shoot another and I have a case stick in the chamber perhaps 5 times on a 30 round mag.. it seems my chamber heats up and my extracter pulls the rim off the case. I talked to a guy today and he seemed to believe I just needed a new bolt, he was shooting 22s and told me to use his bolt. so I went through three mags and no case left in the chamber. I am just a range shooter but if I can save $60-$80 per k rounds. then wolf is just as much fun as brass and I don't feel the need to pick up the steel cases. I am going to try a new bold and keep with wolf, If I change bolt and still have stuck cases I will stick with federal. So if anyone else has some Ideas I would love to hear your .02
  10. Thanks for the responses I also just became a proud owner of a usp45 and have a 45hk on the way and I'm sure they are all the same.
  11. I have had a usp 40 for toooooo long for it to be now that I am asking this question besides field stripping and cleaning which I do at least after every two times I go to the range, but I am wondering if I should be worried that i have never got to my firing pin. Not sure I can get to it. if I can please explain how and how to clean the iring pin bore. thank you Brent
  12. thanks alvarez, I just saw a video of the 550 in action, I have only had one friend that has done reloads and he was on the piggyback and I got a good price on a 550 start up set and I was a little bumbed when I saw manual index but I think it will be alright and right up my ally as a first time press owner.
  13. when you talk about manual indexing vs auto indexing, you are talking about spinning the shell plate to each station. so on a manual index you put your brass in pull the handle spin the shell to the next station. so once your shell plate is full you are putting brass in putting a bullet in and spinning the shell plate. Is that how the 550 works? I am shopping fo my first press and I have only used rcbs piggyback setup and I didn't have to turn the shell plate so I am wondering what the advantages the 550 has on the rest.
