  1. I recently bought a Sx2 and am having an ammo problem. The gun is very sensitive to certain ammo and will not cycle reliably. It won't reliably shoot Win Ranger Low Recoil slugs, Rem Managed Recoil Buckshot or Win 7 1/2 shot 3 dr eq, 1 1/8 oz. The shell won't completely eject. On the positive side it will shoot Rem Express Long Range 5 shot 3 3/4 dr eq and Rem Managed Recoil slugs. I am a new 3 Gunner. Any advice? Perhaps I should have bought a Benelli. Thanks, Jim
  2. Any recommendations for the rear sight? I haven't found a ghost ring that mounts on the rail. The front sight is too small for my 52 year old eyes. Any recommendations for a larger fiber optic front sight? Thanks Jim
  3. Thanks to everyone for all the help. As I was pondering my dilemma I noticed a crack in the frame inside the mag well. I bagged up the gun and will be calling Baer on Monday. Thanks, Jim
  4. Ray, The trigger bow and the disconnector/sear are aligned as you say they should. When I put in the sear spring, the left leg( which has a 90 degree bend on the top) fits over the trigger bow and the middle leg fits under the disconnector. I installed the sear spring and secured it with the MSH by pushing up about half way. If I push the MSH in all the way at this point I can't get the GS in. The hammer is cocking now but the trigger won't engage. I have read and reread the pertinent shop manual sections and everything looks as they should but the gun won't run. I must be missing something. Jim
  5. Ray, I surrender. Today I have taken it apart and put it back together six times and now the trigger won't even engage.I guess I'll be seeing a gunsmith tomorrow. Here's what I have been doing: The sear, disconnector, mag release and trigger have stayed in the gun today. Everything else has been removed and replaced. When reassembling I install the the hammer and strut. I then install the sear spring. Next I install the main spring housing enough to secure the sear spring.I then install the grip safety and the thumb safety. Finally I finish installing the MSH with the trigger dropped against the frame. I tried your order of reassembly but couldn't get the trigger to cock back to install the grip safety and thumb safety. (probably due to my inexperience) Jim
  6. You may be right about trapping the GS and it did take an inordinate amount of force to put the mainspring housing back in. I am going to have some coffee and try this again. Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes. Jim
  7. The hammer strut is making contact with the main spring. I don't know what a trigger bow is? Should have left this to someone more competent than me.
  8. Yes, the trigger will depress and the hammer will fall without depressing the grip safety.
  9. Ray, The grip safety did work before disassembly. Being a gunsmith dummy it does seem that there is sufficient spring pressure. The safety does move freely. Thanks, Jim
  10. The weather in Indiana today is cold and windy with rain and snow, so I got out my Kuhnhausen Shop Manual and proceeded to strip my Baer PII 45 cal (never done this before). After about three hours of confusion and moderate expletives I got it back together with no extra parts. Problem is the grip safety doesn't work. So, I thought hell I have another Baer PII(9x23) so let's take it apart and look at it. Um.. got it back together and the grip safety doesn't work on it either. Started to see a trend here. Took both guns out back and ran 10 rounds through each and they ran fine. Anyone have any insight into why it happened to both or either guns? I decided to keep my day job and not try gunsmithing. Thanks, Jim
  11. Forum member, TomB , is travelling to Las Vegas and will be in the Joplin,MO/Tulsa,OK area Saturday on I 44/OK turnpike and the Albuquerque area on Sunday on I 40. Anyone have any match suggestions? IPSC, Steel, NRA Action Pistol all work.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I had my first structured practice with the 625 yesterday. The trigger was fine at 8.5 lbs but I still may take Erics's advice regarding Apex. I want to run some more rounds through the gun before I make that decision. I had a nice load yesterday that shot soft and accurately. I used some Star 230gr that I had (still waiting for the MT Gold to be delivered) and 4.3 gr of Titegroup. I didn't bother to chrono the load since I only had a few hundred of the Stars left, but I think I am close on the light load.
  13. Mike, Thanks for the reply. That helps. The gun currently is at 8.5 lbs. It is a Performance Center model with a fair amount of additional custom work by a local smith. I recently bought it to shoot ICORE and IPSC. I have only shot 1911/2011 guns to this point so I am a revolver newbie trying to learn along the way. I do load my own ammo and do use Federal primers. I was going to start my load development with Starline brass, Montana Gold 230gr CMJ and Titegroup. Your thoughts on this will be appreciated. I was advised yesterday that I relly don't need to push that heavy of a bullet particularly for ICORE. Thanks, Jim
  14. What is a realistic double action trigger pull weight for a 625 ? How low can you go? Thanks, Jim
  15. Anyone have loading data using Titegroup and a 230gr CMJ Montana Gold Bullet for ICORE competition? I am trying to get a 125 - 130 power factor. Should I use a lighter bullet?? I am shooting a 5" barrel S&W Performance Center 625. Thanks, Jim
  16. Kevin, Thanks for the reply. I have assumed that I can get less recoil with a heavier bullet. I have been loading for my 9 mm with 147 gr , 130 gr and 115 gr bullets and felt that the heavier bullet shot with less recoil. Perhaps my error is comparing the 9mm to the 9x23. Jim
  17. I just need a fairly light steel load.
  18. Anyone have reloading data for 9x23 and a 147 gr bullet? I'm looking for a Steel load and obviously don't need to make major power factor. Thanks Jim
  19. We lost our best broodmare and her foal this morning. Life sucks. A beautiful silver buckskin mare and her bay filly were buried on our farm today. The foal never was in position for birthing. This reulted in the mare's uterus being ruptured and the foal was born dead. The Vet did everything he could do but it was too late. The mare was 10 years old and we have owned her since she was a 4 year old. We miss her.

  22. Ray, Awesome post. Sure brought back some great memories for this 50- something shooter. Thanks Jim
  23. Jeff, Excellent outcome and explanation. Very well done. People like you and your MD are what makes this sport so good. Jim
  24. TL, Well put. That was exactly my experience at a match this weekend. Been practicing all winter. Went to a match Sunday and my expectations got in the way of my shooting. It was a very humbling experience
