  1. I loaded 57,000 my first year with a SDB.

I did buy one of the very first 650's since I knew it would make ammo fast

I would start to reload asap as not only is it cheaper, the ammo is better, better componants, close to PF etc. You can probably load an exact copy of your Walmart load but most Production seem to like 147 gr with a fast powder. I would consider coated lead to same even more.

Get someone to show you how to load and start picking up your brass and buying components now

  2. Oooh oooh I know....to really show of I'll leave the mag in rack 3 times real fast so I can get 3 rounds in the air and I can juggle them with my left hand while dropping the mag and showing clear with my right....now that is showing off :-)

Now I might have to get into this round toss n catch thing.

  3. Time doesn't matter if you are not getting all A's.

Rob Leatham *seems* to think otherwise. At least that's what videos of his training tips suggest.

I am nowhere near his level, but it also makes sense to me that since we accept charlies in field courses (with the appropriate penalty), we can also accept them in drills (with the appropriate penalty). In fact, it can be a valuable exercise to get a better feel for when it is worth it to see just a little bit more in order to *guarantee* A-zone hits.

Great point about cold runs, btw. I've taken to starting off every live-fire session with basic drill (bill drill, el prez, etc....) just to get more comfortable with that first stage in a match

Mama's wrong again :goof: Its a joke

Rob is probably talking in the context of learning to shoot fast. Yes in your quest to go from say a B to an A you often need to "teach" yourself to "go fast" Not being concerned about points on a drill is a good technique to help teach this. I have taken many a student and just had them shoot against the berm as fast as you can, that is another way to do this.

BUT as your skills progress you must shoot points. Like BE said. I found out that I could shoot A's as fast as I could shoot anything else. When you understand and live that quote I think you can go on to a higher level of shooting.

I am not speaking for Rob but I'll bet he avocates A's over other hits in competition, Check out the big boys results, the winner usually has 92++% points and the fast or close to fastest time. See the BE quote for what's going on

Now a slow A is not better than a fast C in general, so there is an "Art" to this. Drills are to teach you something but the match shows if you can apply it.

  4. Time doesn't matter if you are not getting all A's. I find the internet is like the bar stool sometimes. Easy to give out fast run times and such vs let's go practice saturday. Not picking on anyone specific just trying to help out those guys running 2.5-4 sec and "worried" Bill drill's are a means to an end. You are trying to be a "total" shooter. Well, I am.

What are your 12 yard Bill Drill times? 25? 50?

How many of you do you do head shot only bill drills?

If you aren't doing these, don't worry, only your competition is.

I also like to check my just put the gear on, cold run, vs a grooved in run. Now as your skills progress they almost become the same times and that is a great goal to be after.

  5. My last stage of the Nationals the RO's delayed by fixing mover then both proceeded to get a 2 min discussion joke, serious stage evaluation with me involved as I stood with feet on marks. I just put my head down and said" TOO MUCH TALKING" The CRO said "your right", and went silent.

I really was impressed he didn't buzzer jump me, and didn't take it personal, was twice as friendly after my run. I did go off my stage plan and the interaction might have had a little to do with it. That is an important learning point.

Best RO plan. Don't say anything except range commands to a shooter, THEN after the run, you can joke, discuss the middle east, even bear hug them cause you cannot affect their score at all.

I would never joke about the performance of an unknown shooter. It is basic good manners.

If I know you, you are mine to make fun of.

  6. Most people don't follow this advice but use what you got or

buy used or "simple and cheap" because

What you end up with a year from now might be very different.

Heck ask around and borrow. I have Bladetechs for Glock and 1911 sitting around maybe more. Ya gotta go shoot matches first. If your gear is safe then you are good to go. Guess how many seconds a $350, brand new XYZ rig takes off your stage runs? Probably adds 5 seconds over something you are used to.

You are already thinking a different gun and that means a different holster, Again. although you could let a 34 "stick out" of a lot of 17 holsters.

Most people run to the gun store and buy a Uncle Mikes or a Serpa and can't wait to throw them away three weeks later. For Competition buy CR, Ghost and DAA so at least you can sell them here if don't like them. Try selling a coudura Uncle Mike anywhere.

    PS 5 pouches

    CR Belt

    CR mag pouches/ maybe Ghost

    Bladetech Holster

    Is what I recommend

  7. I am afraid to reverse engineer my penalties cause I am pretty sure my placement would be right on my Goal.

I don't usually dwell on negative. It was a hard match. It was a hard match for everybody. I wasn't as prepared as I liked. I was distracted.

I am already planning next year. Ok that's where I should be

You know the answer to your question but I will add until you can shoot as fast as the SS, it doesn't matter

  8. I like to show off but it usually involves 16-17++ HF

Rounds can and do detonate this way. I have see it. Not in a very long time so I think we figured out how to prevent this, pretty much. The only wild card is the shooter. Bad gun build could cause this but bad reloading is probably the major culprit

I could tell you stores about bad reloading that might freak you out. Remember that new shooter and his new Dillon could be an idiot and his new toy

I don't flip cause 25 years ago I realized it did not increase my HF on the stage. So I never started it.

I could care less if you flip unless I get hurt. Hurt yourself all you want.

  9. After seeing how fast the classifiers were updated after everyone got home from the Nationals, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a monthly update, every month. Delayed a couple days is reasonable. Saying, We can't do it, is not.

I think the attitude "this is how we always do it" would not fly in any business that I have worked for and frankly USPSA is only there to support the members. Period.

I believe it is not unreasonable to expect updated classifiers.

With a little bit of management planning, it would not be an issue. They do it before other Nationals, Areas, etc. So why not September?

  10. Thanks for the Info guys. I made a spreadsheet of the USPSA and IDPA matches to help me keep them straight. I was able to find some contact information for Izaak Walton league too. Although the IDPA contact says they dont have a website for IDPA; the USPSA contact sent me a link to a website they have set up just for USPSA at their Oxford location. http://www.oxfordpracticalshooters.com/ I think thats where I'll start since it is the closest one to me this weekend.

    Start fast.

Not all clubs shoot in the winter, some clubs do kind of a "If we can get into the range over the snow we will have a shoot" in the winter.

The guy running Oxford is Dave. He will probably be the one signing you in. Tell him that you are new. He has been doing this longer than me, I think only one other person in Ohio can say that, but I shoot quite a bit more.

Miamisburg Monday is a great place to start.

Come up to Circleville this Saturday and shoot with my team if you would like.
