Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've been using 4.2gr of VV N310 under a 180gr moly coated bullet loaded at 1.2" OAL for several years. This is a VERY soft shooting load that is very consistent in my 5" STI Edge. NOTE: Do NOT use this load with 1.135" OAL!!!...the pressure will be much higher!
  2. Unfortunately, I'm out of N310 and need to find something less expensive! Tite-Group is much cheaper, but I'm not excited about the prospect of running a smokestack... I've also got Unique, SR7625, Bullseye, Ramshot Silhouette, W231, & PowerPistol all setting on the shelf. If you have a favorite load with one of these powders, let me know.
  3. The important factor to recall in this situation is the first available shot on each target was well away from the 180 (in the ball park of 150 or 160). The shooter overran the target presentation and turned back to break the 180. The speed of the shooters movement was the cause....not the course design. Any time you believe there is a safety issue, the only way to protect your friends is to raise the issue immediately with the match director or safety officer before the course is shot. Raising the flag after the match is akin to closing the barn door after the horse is out. As for trust among your fellow shooters (friends), talking with them before going national is likely the best course....once you've got the full scoop locally, then consider this forum. I doubt you'll be shut out at your club....but it sounds like a humble return may be in order. Shoot straight, STI Shooter
  4. I replaced the entire case slide assembly including the spring before posting to this thread.....did not help. Again, the case is fully entering the shell plate, then rebounding slightly once the slide backs away. I'm using the spray type Hornady One-Shot....have never tried the pump because I heard it was sticky.
  5. ...I'm using Hornady One-Shot....shouldn't be sticky enough to cause a problem.
  6. Nope, tried that. The entire case feed unit including the spring is brand new. Some time ago, Dillon added a little push tab at the bottom that was supposed to fix this problem.....still no joy. The case is simply rebounding slightly when the slide assembly moves away....needs some type of tensioner to hold it in position.
  7. I'm having the same problem with both .40 & 9mm. VERY FRUSTRATING! I've checked the platform bolts and they're tight. The cases are entering the shellplate all the way....but then bouncing out slightly once the case slider backs away from the case. Like you found, if I reach in and press it back into the shellplate, it sizes just fine....if it's out of center even a tiny bit, it crushes the case. As a work around, I started using a universal decapping die at station 1....this eliminates the need for perfect alignment but is close enough to hit the flash hole. After priming & charging at station 2, I then put my sizing die (with decapping stem removed) at station 3 so the case is held in place by a locator button when sizing. A belling die at station 4...and seat/crimp on 5. Dillon needs to find a way for a case locator button or similar tensioner on station 1 to prevent the case from moving out of center! shoot straight! 8. Hey "Master of the Universe" Dave, Good to hear from you.....for future reference, 1 STI Edge = 2 Berettas, 1 Weatherby, & 1 Winchester! (actually, the Winchester funded the mags, belt, holster, pouches, timer, shooting bag and few other toys!) I'm gonna need you to cut me some 610 moon clips eventually. The factory ones are SLOPPY loose and I know yours will be tight! I'll email you for a price quote. Shoot straight! Rob
  9. I called Brazos yesterday to order a couple spares....as promised, they were available for $2 each with friendly service to boot!
  10. I used to shoot with Dave at SBCPL.....good guy! (I bet he's glad I'm gone so now he can rule the "Belly Gun" division!) He can make moon clips for most any gun as well as cylinder conversions. He converted my old Ruger Security Six and set me up with a batch of moon clips. If you talk nice to him, he'll even customize the diameter to hold a specific brand of brass resulting in nice tight hold.....none of that floppy, dangly stuff like the factory clips! Shoot straight!
  11. I had been shooting .40 Beretta's & Glocks for years and just jumped into the semi-custom market with an Edge .40 about 4 months ago....so far I love it! That said, I was a little over optimistic about the level of detail on the Edge coming direct from STI. For the price, I expected everything to be perfectly polished and fitted but found out later that wasn't the case. For the additional cost charged by shops like Dawson, Brazos, etc...If I were to buy again, it would be from one of these sources. I'm shooting Limited & Limited-10 using www.MasterBlastersBullets.com 180gr Moly bullets over N310 & WSP.....they shoot VERY soft. (Use extreme caution with N310 and heavy bullets...most recommendations point toward N320 or slower powders!) For mags, I went with SVI verses the STI because they hold 1 extra round (19), and should yield 20 with Grams 2.5mm base pads. I also chose to have the grip stipled & painted by Jim Shanahan.(www.advancedperformanceshooting.com) To smooth up the action, it took a bit of time with 1200 grit wet-dry sand paper to polish out the tool marks on the sides of the hammer, trigger, sear & disconnector, as well as the magazines which needed a lot of polishing. After polishing and spring adjustments, the trigger is down to a approx 2lb. The hinge pin on the front of the STI rear sight also broke within the first 1K rounds - replaced that with a similar diameter allen wrench cut to length and staked in place...no problems since. I'm also going to replace the wide front blade (.125") with a narrower (.090") fiber optic so I can see around it. All in all, I'll be very happy with the Edge once it's set up to fit me. Shoot straight!
  12. Mine also arrived without the tool.... I used the design specs above to make one from a 223 case. It works but I'm not fond of the sharp edges digging into the guide rod & my fingers. STI has a 5 pack of them for sale....and a minimum parts order of $250 !!!!! They responded with an email recommendation to order it through their distributors....who of course don't carry them. I get the impression that customer service is a $250 option....
  13. Same here...my factory edge has fed everything I've offered it including factory loads, short moly coated Glock loads, 1.2" 170pf Limited loads with Moly, JHP, FMJ, plated, etc. (with the exception of a few short loaded JHP hang ups during the first 200 rounds of break-in) The hinge pin on the rear sight also broke in the first 1K....replaced the pin with a similar diameter allen wrench cut to length and staked on both ends....no problem since. Had Jim Shanahan turn the 2x4 grip into a good fit with a cool paint job to boot.
  14. Quick turn and cool paint job! It took a little while to get used to the agressive texture but, but now that I've settled into it I wouldn't switch back. Jim even inset a military service emblem for me! Awesome job.
  15. I also use hard cast lead bullets through my Glock 27. I have shot many 10's of thousands through the original Glock barrel with regular cleaning to ensure no lead build up. I use standard bore solvent and a bore-snake every 500 rounds and the Outers Foul Out electro-chemical bore cleaner about every 2000 just to be sure....and I typically find very little lead build-up when I pull out the Foul-Out rod.... Clean well and shoot with confidence!
