  1. Yup, I never put empty mags in my pouch "anymore". I was once at a match. I had one stage that was five targets and you had to put a different number of rounds in each. I planned on 1 in t1 2 in t2 etc. so, I new exactly where I would run to slide lock. To my surprise I ran out on the third target. Confused, I slapped another mag hit the slide release, pulled the trigger and CLICK! Oops, I started with 9 in the first mag and none in the second. I will never do that again.

    9mm in 40cal mags

Ok, I am interested! I'm sure I can find parts for it.
  3. Yes, it was a learning experience for sure. Again, it was the first time I ever pulled that gun out of a box so, the thought never crossed my mind. I will never forget that lesson.
  4. Well, I have about a 6 month old Gen 3 so, I need learn to pay attention. I Gen 4 is not it the cards any time soon.
  5. Looking awsome Ben, Can't wait so see your performance in Greece.

    9mm in 40cal mags

Thanks, I guess it's not worth the risk during a match.

    9mm in 40cal mags

Has anyone tried to use 40cal mags for 9mm? I live in a state where high cap mags are a no-no so, I was looking for a way to load to division capacity during a match without carying an extra mag just to top off with. Pre ban mags are very expensive and someone brought up the idea of using a mag from a G22/35 for in my G34. If the gun feeds and cycles, it's not a bad idea.
  8. The weekend is over and 400 rounds down the pipe and the trigger worked great. Now to your question, All the work was done on the trigger bar only. My way of doing it was to remove the plastic trigger from the metal bar (the hardest part for me) and then put the bar in the purge chamber and fire up the square wave Tig and add material to make the bar longer, Next surface grind to size, bore and radius on the mill, Shoot peen and trip down the street to heat treat the one thing I can't do. Last the standard polish and reinstall the trigger shoe. I wonder if hard chrome or some other DLC coating on it will improve it's performance. This week I will make one more and try it in my gun (it has a Edge by Glocktriggers.com in it right now) and then switch them to see if any timing problems show up. It's very little travel to get the trigger safety off and then the drop and plunger safety and then let the striker go. I will update when more testing is done. Jerry Oh, Is that all?
  9. It's happened to me a few times. It happens more when I do a tac or reload with retention as the mags are slightly harder to seat with the slide forward. It sucks when you take off running and then have to go back to pick up your full mag.
  10. I used to do this all the time when I was using my Beretta. With my Glock it's not so much of an issue for me. Now I amd having issues with hitting the slide release to early during a slide lock reload and not getting a gound chambered. I always invent new ways of waisting time during a stage.
  11. You can remove all the pretravel without cutting the trigger. What you have to do is move the trigger break point, not just install a set screw to limit the travel. I just did my sons G34 today and it has only .180 trigger travel very short and no pretravel and .015 post travel. It did take six triggers to get it right and nine hours in the shop to make the tooling and fixtures. Now it takes about an hour to make one. He will run 300 rounds and a IDPA SSP match this weekend so it has to be right. Jerry So, how'd you do it?
  12. I had just recently switched from a Beretta 92fs to the Glock G34.
  13. Yeah, I improved by about 16 seconds over my last one but it wasn't quite enough. I went from 126.93 to 110.95. I needed to beat 108.57. I could have done it! I took about 10 seconds off stage 1 and 6 seconds off stage 3. Stage 2 stayed the same so, I guess that's where i need to do some work.
  14. There's the culprit. You'll get it. Play with the gun some more on hard fast shots and transitions. You may try holding for the top half of the circle for the 20yd. I thought it was snake oil at first until it cut my points down in half. That was my only miss thankfully. I have missed a head shot on each of the other 2 classifiers I have shot. I thought shooting for the top of the -0 at 20yds unfortunately, I was not thinking of it while I was actually shooting.
  15. I just took too much time on stage 3. I held back a bit the whole classifier so I did not drop too many points. I shot a decent group on T3 of stage 3 but, it was low center so, down 8 there. My tac reload on string 2 of stage 3 was slow and sloppy. Oh, I pulled my first shot on El Presidiente way high right, just outside the perf on the head. Down 5 points there.
  16. I'm not going to change any parts. It was a leaning experience though.
  17. Thanks, I was hoping to swap out the guide rod quick and shoot both ESP and SSP in one night but, a lot of guys showed up so, time was an issue. It seems like SSP should be easy now. I really wanted ESP since that's where I started.
  18. I shot my third classifier last night. I had ESP expert within striking distance and didn't pull it off. I missed it by 2.5 seconds. UGH! Maybe I should have put my stock guide rod in and went for SSP.
  19. A 4-40 set screw in front of the trigger bar will do it. The problem with that is keeping the trigger safety functional without modifying it. I added a setscrew to the front of the connector housing. It worked in a very similar fashion but, I had to remove material from the trigger safety to get it to drop down. In the end I bought a new trigger.
  20. GlockWORX sell a "production leagal" competition trigger. It has an internal modification to the triger bar which reduces pre travel. I have one in my G34. There is still some pre travel but it is much reduced. All in all, works pretty nicely.
  21. This past February I attended the S&W Indoor IDPA nationals. Stage 9 turned out to be a real catastrophy. It was a dark stage where you were seated at a "desk with your gun in the IPSC box. When Glock claimed to make the G34 to fit in the IPSC box, they really were not kidding. It just fits. So, the buzzer, I hit the button to activate the very dim caution lights, flip the box lid open, grab my gun and head to the first shooting position. I put the gun up to shoot the first target and "CLICK". Remember, It is pretty dark, I rack the slide, pul the trigger and "CLICK" again! I think in the excitement I racked 3 times before puting my thumb up into the magwell and realizing the gun was empty. At that point, I grab another bag from my belt and begin shooting a very flustered stage. After I finish, they turn the lights on and, there on the floor about 2 feet from the desk is my loaded mag. After thinking about what the heck happend, i realized that the G34's extended mag release button acts like a foot when you lay the gun down on the side a righty would want to position it when picking it up. That screw up right there probably cost me 20 sconds and a whole lot of points down because i put downward pressure on the gun when grabbing it from the box.
  22. And that's why the grip strength is so important. If my AVERAGE grip strength is 90# and my maximum is #120, the gun is going to be a handful and I'm going to overgrip. If I increase my grip strength and my AVERAGE becomes 130# and my max is 200#, I am no longer holding on for dear life..... instead a moderate, neutral grip is MORE than enough. I don't think actaul strenght is a problem. I have large hands and have recently discovered that I am sometimes squeezing the Glock grip so tight with my two bottom fingers (strong hand)that the mags don't fall out easily during reloads. I think it is a prduct of my tension level during a stage. I need to learn how to control that tension. I know that when I am relaxed during a stage I do much better. I know that I need to relax my strong hand and tighten my weak hand but, often times, once the timer beeps, everything I know goes out the window.
  23. The same happens to me when I try to out run my ability. I have a fine line where speed picks up and accuracy falls off.
  24. I would love to shoot faster and I am working on figuring out how. Right now, I am thinking front sight focus and tracking during medium and high difficulty shots. I will let you know how that works out. Ben, I hope one day I can learn to shoot and move as slow as you. When I get some money together, maybe I can get to Wisconsin so you can teach me.
  25. I have to admit, I switched over from my 92FS to a G34. I, like you had too many instances where I either turned the safety on when picking the gun up from a table or, I had the safety on in my holster. I also found that I couldn't keep my thumb off the slide release. The Glock is so much simpler to compete with plus, with the 92FS, your kind of stuck with the front sight. I would still love to get my hands on a 92G Elite.
