  1. To a fish, water is something that has been around him for so long that he has already regard it as part of himself. In shooting, for example, you practice drawing for so long that when you hear the "beep", the draw will happen flawlessly sub-consciously.
  2. Anyone played "Sports Shooter" in the arcade? You're given a gun with a "red-dot" scope on it, and you play it like IPSC. No recoil, but it's totally different from other shooting games like Time Crisis. It requires you to aim, cos the "impact area" is very small. If you notice, other games like Time Crisis, House Of The Dead have much bigger "impact area", thus making it easier to point-shoot. I must say, my index must have refined like 10 times better after hogging the machine for more than an hour. After that, I went for a shooting session and performed better than before. The arcade will be my training ground from now on. If this game's on Playstation 2, I'm definitely getting it.

  4. Two important things when dry-firing. 1) Aim at a small specific point of the target. 2) Keep your dry-firing REALISTIC. Don't transit targets too fast. Aim at the target, squeeze the trigger, VISUALIZE the recoil, wait for your visualization of the recoil to be completed before moving to the next target.
  5. Is it recommended to shoot based on your muscle-memory, or is it better to always use your sights (except for really really close targets)?
  6. Here's something I came up with: "Practice hard, then let confidence take-over." It worked for me. I practice, refining my movements. Then at matches, I'll let muscle-memory do the work and take every shot with confidence. Know what you're practicing for. Just by squeezing the trigger and firing a bullet is NOT practice. It is practice only when you know what you're doing. It needs to go into your head. Know what you're able to do, and what you aren't. With practice, comes confidence.
  7. Suppose a stage specifies that you have to do a mandatory reload at Area A. Is it legal to drop the mag before I reach Area A, and then insert the new magazine only at Area A?
  8. Do you place them with the bullets pointing forward or pointing backwards?
  9. I just found out that I can actually shoot without consiously looking at the sights. I found myself pointing the gun at the target, and actually adjusting my aim a little before taking the shot, all without sights. It seems that I can take aim, and even adjust my aim for a better shot, without sights, and probably by mental alignment of the barrel. Any comments on this?
  10. I read it on a website some time ago, where the "El Presidente" stage is used for classifying shooters (Class D, Class C, etc...). I can't remember the website now, but it did mention something about classifying shooters by their time (clean run only). E.g. 15seconds and you're a Class D shooter or something. Can someone let me know how are standard division shooters classified? Thanks
  11. I've read about it everywhere, your weak thumb should be pointing at the target. Does the weak thumb merely happened to have to be in that position, or is the weak thumb used as an aiming guide? Like whenever you want to shoot something, you'll consicously point your weak thumb at it?
  12. Suppose you've been using this particular muscular handgun all the time, and now someone passes you a slimmer handgun, or vice versa. Will you be able to achieve the same performance now that you're holding a different handgun? Suppose the sights are the same, just that the size itself is different.
  13. 3 paper targets and 3 pepper poppers immediately in sight down range. Do a mandatory reload BEFORE you engage any poppers. Which means you can immediately do a reload after the beep and engage all targets, etc... Is such a mandatory reload legal? If it's legal or illegal, please pinpoint the rule which says so to me, so that if someone questions the legality of this COF, I'll be able to defend myself. Sorry if I'm bothering everyone with a newbie question.
  14. What are your tactics on engaging targets while moving at the same time?
  15. It's IPSC. I did asked the RO about it, I told him that I can't find any rule in the rulebook's DQ section which says that a shooter cannot hold a mag in his hand. He said it's a safety violation, but not necessarily a DQ offence. But then again, I still can't find ANY rule at all in the rulebook which states that a shooter cannot hold a mag in his hand while shooting. ???
  16. This is the scenario, I saw a shooter shoot with his right hand, while his left hand, holding a magazine, is supporting his right hand. The RO said it's a safety infraction. Take note that this is running around shooting with 1 hand, while the other hand is holding a magazine. The shooter hasn't had any intentions to reload yet.
  17. I was informed that one cannot shoot with one hand, while the other hand is holding a loaded magazine. This qualifies for a DQ for safety infraction. But I can't find that rule anywhere in the rulebook. Can someone pinpoint that rule to me? Thanks
  18. I've just started shooting with 2 eyes about more than a month ago, and I have a question for you 2-eyes shooting veterans. Do you focus on the target first, then focus on the sight picture, when transiting targets? If so, doesn't that makes you slower? Right now I am able to just look at the target, bring my gun up, and the sights are already aligned unconsiously. Which means although I'm focusing on the target, my sights (which are blurred) are already aligned. Is it recommended to shoot in this way, where you cannot see your sight picture but most of the time you already know it's aligned?
  19. OK, I just came back from another session of shooting. The course designer specified that "these targets can only be shoot at through this window". So I asked him, "Isn't that illegal?" He said no, it is legal. But I thought this is already in violation as the course designer specified a position? Then there was another course where there is an obstacle, and there is a chair to help those who are shorter to get up. I asked, "If I'm tall enough and I don't use the chair, will I get a penalty?" He said "Yes, you must use the chair." Erm...so is this illegal too? Can the shooter be forced to use a chair to help him overcome obstacles? Oh, and 1 more thing. I pulled out my rulebook, which I downloaded and printed from www.ipsc.org, and showed them the part where it says the course may not specified a position or stance, he replied by saying, "There's another rulebook, go read that one." But I thought there's only ONE rulebook?
  20. Thanks for the reply. So you're saying that, it's better if the course designer just brings the shooters to the course, and says, "Here it is, go figure.", and not specify the shooters' movements?
  21. The IPSC rule book says that shooters should be allowed to shoot on a "as and when visible" basis. I've just started on airsoft IPSC, and the stages which I've played in, specified that I can only engage certain targets at a position, after which I must move to another position to engage other targets. Is it legal to specify the targets that can be engaged at a position? Can I engage all targets if I can already see them at the first position, and complete the course without going to the second position?
