  1. Im a rank novice compared to almost everybody here. But I'm going to pipe in anyway.

I just finished my first caliber conversion on my 650. I've done it before on my friend's 550.

Generally speaking changing out the primer from large to small is a real pain in the butt. Everything else is quick and easy.

So I've been thinking that the ideal setup might be to have 2 - 650s. One set up for large primers and the other set up for small. Not cheap, I know.

But with those two, you can convert to just about anything is less than 10 minutes and you can really fly once you are set up.

    Don

that is exactly what i did! and i will use my 550 for my father in laws rifle! shit next year im aching for a sl900 shotshell reloader

  2. Believe it or not, I have a friend that has this: Workbench for his reloading bench. He has a Rock Chucker mounted to it and loads .338 Lapua Mag on it. He says it is quite stable and then he just rolls it away when he is done. Also locks everything up in it. I got the large workbench made by the same company and it is rock solid.

Maybe this would work for you as well.

    Trey

that is a nice bench there! a guy on this forum named boxerglocker has one with a dillon xl 650 mounted to it check it out maybe ill have him post a pic or two

  3. Regardless of history, a wonderful machine, I consider is the best machine in Dillon line today and a great buy at its price. Have three of them in addition to the 1050.

+1. Dillon definitely did a great job in developing the 650.

I want to know how the decision to go with the rotating plate of primers rather than a slider such as on the 550 and other presses? The lower speed makes sense, but why have unused fresh primers fall onto the ski jump when they could just go back under the stack to get used again?

Maybe its a safety thing for simplicity! if it would rotate back around while arm is full of primers kaboom. But to keep it simple with a flat rotation of the primer plate it just ejects into a little off ramp. If in actuality you wanted it to rotate back into commission there would most likely be more of an advance in moving parts in that department. But that is just my opinion

  4. If you were to by a XL650 right now... in the grand scheme of things the casefeeder with the needed shellplate is an extra $212.95!!!

The new Blue press is out, price increases are on the way... plus if you order the casefeeder with a press you get the whole thing shipped FREE.

I agree... XL650 without a case feeder... just silly.

Mitch is the man and i agree as stated before.

  5. I regretted selling my Lee Classic Turret. It was cheap to do caliber conversions on and it worked great. I wish I had just kept it and got the 650/casefeeder for 9mm. I would get the 650 for the caliber you want, keep the 550 for at least a year. You will get the urge to sell it but once that passes I bet you will be glad you kept it.

lol you regretted selling a 80 dollar piece of equipment? my redding dies cost almost double that!

but to the op i would keep my 550 and keep the 650 also plus its always a hand me down or what not

  6. I am pretty sure Dillon Fixes their prices. I buy from Brian and Dillon and have seen Dillon stuff in a gunshop that has outragious prices on eveything but the prices were EXACTLY the same on the Dillon stuff.

Don't count on black Friday but if there is going to be a price increase for the new year Brian will let us know here so we can buy before hand.

I would just order it from Brian whenever you are ready!

    Thanks guys!

Free shipping for orders over $400 is my "caveat."

In a sense, buying a loading set up from me before 5 PM, Dec. 31st, is a "discount," because you will beat Dillon's first of the year price increase.

    ;)

i have heard dillon cost is like 100-150 under the price of each press or so i have been told!
