can you say SANDBAGGER??? haha
-
unless you know what you are doing, i'd say take it to a smith, they can get you a good trigger job for under $100.00. you can use the stock parts (i did with the trigger job in my STI) but some will recommend to upgrade if you are going to do it in the first place.
-
I also vote for the Comp-Tac, i use their holsters and mag pouches and have had great results with them.
-
I would look at the STI Trojan great gun for price and easily customizable. If you are looking to spend a little more (maybe a lot) check out the Les Baers top end guns for not as high of a price as the nighthawks or Wilsons.
-
I just shot my M&P pro in a match this past weekend, while I liked it and did well with it, I'll stick with my STI and stay in ESP until I make master before the M&P comes out of the safe again...

If you're asking then you want your double stack in .40 You could run a .45 in IDPA CDP. Unless that's a concern buy a .40
sounds good it looks like I'll be getting the .40 for limited, if I run in CDP I'll use my 1911. I guess the question now is Dawsons or Brazos?
-
Thanks for all the feedback, from my experience I had always liked the recoil of the .45 better than the .40 so I wanted to get a consensus as to what the majority did. I had also heard that people have feeding issues with the .40's so I wasn't sure if the .45 fed better with the double stack than the .40. I plan on starting the game in limited so it seems that .40 will be the way to go. Now I have to work on getting that reloading press up and running.
If I want to go L-10 I can just use my single stack and use the 10 round mags, right?
I appreciate the info.

I'm thinking about getting a double stack 2011 to start shooting uspsa in limited, should i go with a .45 or .40?
-
go with the S&A magwells if you aren't looking for something too big.
-
I'd have to agree with the Majority here, Go with the Tripps, i run them in my STI and they have run flawlessly. I run factory 115gr ammo out of them.
-
An aluminum Guide rod will drop around 0.9 ounces from a standard steel guide rod. That was my solution for ESP and CDP in IDPA competitions. Briley makes them.
-
I'm a big fan of all the Comp-tac products, i'd recommend them to anyone who was asking. It is all I use for any of my setups
-
I run the Tripps with the DP Ice Magwell, they are good as long as you are not cupping your hand when inserting the magazine. nothing worse than firing a round and then seeing your fresh magazine fall out the bottom because you didn't hear that "click".

Let me know if I should move this to IDPA. Most everybody here should be able to answer these questions.
I'm preparing for a major IDPA match. I recently added a SSS ESP Aluminum magwell to my M&P Pro. Knowing I wont be able to confirm their scales before the match, I wanted to make sure I had a little wiggle room with the base pads.
We all know.

B. Add-on weights for a competitive advantage (this includes,
but is not limited to, weighted magazines, tungsten guide rods,
brass magazine wells, weighted grips).

Weighted Magazine: Any magazine that weighs more than one
(1) ounce over the weight of a factory standard magazine for the
specific pistol in question.
I'm not trying to look too far into this but The M&P has 3 different Factory Magazines that I am aware of.
They Have 2 different 17 rounders and a 10 rounder I have weighted all of my equipment. I did not weight the entire magazine. I just weighed the parts that are different. To see how much room I have to play with. Here are my results.
I used a certified postal scale next to my work. (shipping company)
Factory Full size Base pad with retainer release hole in the center. .185oz
Metal base pad retainer used for above base pad. .128oz
Combined weight of .313oz
Factory Full size Base pad with retainer release hole in the rear. .176
Plastic base pad retainer used with above base pad. .050
Combined weight of .226oz
I have 5 SSS ESP base pads weighing between 1.065oz - 1.069oz
leaving the 10 rounder out of the equation. (I'll leave it in the car.) My lightest magazine base pad/retainer combo is .266
My heaviest SSS base pad with metal retainer retainer is 1.197oz. combined subtract .266 for the lightest full size factory base pad assembly = .931oz + 1oz allowed leaves me with .069 wiggle room.
Thats not much
Here is my questions.
1) If I have a 10 rounder in my bag can they use that to calculate 1oz over Factory?
2) Will they only use what is on my belt?
3) What if there are no factory magazines at the event? (unlikely)
4) How do they know what a factory mag weighs?
5) How accurate will their scale be?
6) Will I get the .2oz tolerance that is given for other weights?
7) Does anyone know of any DQ's from the use of an ESP magwell with SSS ESP basepads?
I don't think you will have a problem, I've shot numerous sanctioned matches and typically what they look for is the total weight of the gun to be below the limit (43 ounces for ESP) and making sure the gun and mag combo fit in the box. From all the matches i've been to, I haven't run into a scenario where the SO's have checked for any "add-on weight" to the magazine or any other piece of equipment. it's kind of hard to govern since different materials and textured finishes are going to weigh different amounts. I shoot ESP with a single stack 1911 and the grips for that type of pistol range from .5oz to 3.0 oz so I think you'll be as long as it fits in the box and stays under limit. I'm picking up my M&P Pro today so I can start competing in SSP, can't wait!!

in my .45 I run the Wilson 47D's or the mags that came with my nighthawk (i think they are ACT-MAG). Both have run great, as long as I do my part and keep them clean.
-
I had that issue with the mag not dropping free intermittently, it ended up being me pushing the mag release too far which caused it to not drop free.
regarding your slide not locking back, it could be the magazine springs not having enough tension to move the slide stop up high enough. have you changed out the springs recently? when was the last time you cleaned your gun? sometimes things will gunk it up and not allow for proper functionality. When in doubt, oil the hell out of it.

Most everyone seems to have missed the original question--can you simply switch back and forth between separate complete upper assemblies, one in 9mm and one in .40? The answer of course is YES, as long as both uppers are correctly fit to the lower.
Anybody remember this thread?? http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26887&hl=armscor&st=0
Edited to add photo of my switch-top 9mm/.40 Armscor wide-body. All it takes to switch calibers is to simply pop out the slide stop, slide off the entire upper assembly as a unit, slide the new one on, and replace the slide stop. Takes about 10 seconds.
Thanks Carmoney, thats exactly what i was looking to do. I was told by someone that I could just easily get a complete upper chambered in .40 and it would be good as long as it was fitted to the existing frame. I think I know what my next purchase is...

I use a Dawson Precision Ice magwell and like it. A lot of others will recommend the Techwell. I've never personally used the Techwell but I hear good things from people that use them.
-
Check out the Dawson Precision Ice magwell, I have one on my ESP gun and CDP gun in IDPA. I highly recommend them.
-
I've had good luck with the Wilson 10 rounders in all of my 1911's in .45 (nighthawk, 2 Kimbers, 1 SW, 1 Dan Wesson) Unfortunately I parted with some of those mentioned but the Wilson mags ran great in all of them. their 9mm mags, not so much!!! haha...
I haven't broken down to getting into reloading yet, although I definitely want to.
-
Just make sure you count your shots as you shoot you'll be good to go. I find that I don't actively count how many rounds I've shot, it's become second nature when I'm running through a stage.
-
I've owned plenty of 1911's over the past 9 years (kimbers, SW, Dan Wesson, STI and Nighthawk Custom). The only one that leaves the safe with me on every trip to the range is the STI (in 9mm). It has been completely reliable from the first shot. the nighthawk is great but i've been competing in ESP so the 45 hasn't been used as often. The Kimbers i've owned are good but have needed to be sent back to Kimber on a couple occasions. the SW and dan wesson were good but i got rid of them to get the nighthawk. That falls out of the price range you are looking for but within your price range the STI Trojan is a great choice. I don't have any experience with Springfield but hear good things.
-
thanks all, will do. I'm used to the 1911 platform so naturally I want to start changing stuff even when it is working properly. I should probably listen to the rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
-
In my .45, I tried a bunch of springs from 10# up to the factory 20#. with a 10# spring it felt like shooting a 9 when I was using factory ammo but the reliability wasn't there. I typically use a 14# or 16# spring for competition and an 18# for carry.
