  1. My best load for the PD 124 JHP is 5.0 grains of N340, Speer case, CCI primer 1.12" OAL.

Another good load (of BE forum member Darrel) that I tried is 4.8 grains N340, Speer case, Win primer, 1.08 OAL for 131 PF.

These I've shot through mainly my Glocks and they run well and are very accurate @ 25 yards from my OEM barreled Glock 17, at least for a Glock.

  2. I've tried Darrel's load above, 4.8 gr N340 @ 1.085" OAL with the PD 124 JHP. Runs 131 PF. Sub 2.6" 15-round groups at 25 yards from my Glock.

I've also tried another load of 5.0 gr N340 @ 1.120" OAL recently. I didn't chrono this one last Saturday, but it's also a real tack driver, and shoots a little better for me than the 4.8 gr load, putting 20 rounds into 2.4" @ 25 yards, also from a stock Glock barrel.

You might not be able to load to 1.12" OAL in the M&P though.

  3. I cronographed 10 rounds of WWB and got 1190 fps avg. and 136 PF avg, OAL 1.152 avg, bullets are 115gr. FMJ HB. Took five rounds apart and measured the powder which was 5.1gr. The powder was a combination of approx. 70% fine & 30% course. When I dumped the powder in water the fine floated and the course sank. The fine powder was silvery in color while the course was a dark charcoal color.

From your experience with Winchester powders do you have any ideas base on the above? I have no experience with Win or Hodgdon powders other than Titegroup. Don't have any access to a small amount of WSF or WST to compare.

I don't have any W231 or WST on hand to compare to WSF, but I don't think WSF would make those kind of velocities at that OAL and charge weight, IME, unless you have an abnormally long barrel or are at high altitude.

W231 would probably make that velocity near that charge weight, as would WST near sea level with 4" to 4.5" barrels at 10-12 ft from the chrono.

  4. I do believe they use the Win 115 FMJ-HB bullet that's only available from Midway USA at about ~$.103 per (est.), I think.

OAL is in the 1.150-1.169" range I think (measure a WWB round with your calipers) as the HB bullet is very long for a 115 gr, primer is probably WIN SP. Brass is obviously Win. headstamp.

I'd pull one and measure the powder charge. The closest you'll get to an exact duplicate is probably with a Win powder. I'd look at the velocity they claim on the box, chrono WWB rounds and then try to select a Win or Hodgdon powder that matches, as those brand powders are all distributed by the same entity, then chrono and see how close I got to the WWB with my load and up or lower the charge as needed.

  5. I think you may be right about the shaking. I am thinking of running a support rod of some kind back to the wall behind the loader. My bench is rock solid but the case feeder is just so tall it amplifies any movement.

I also thought maybe limiting the amount of brass would help but literally one of the last 10 pieces of brass was upside down tonight.

I've seen a solution posted here where the case feeder is mounted to the wall behind the bench via a sort of L bracket, removing the need for the case feeder support tube entirely.

Since it is not attached to the bench, it completely eliminates movement of the case feeder during press operation.

I would try it, but my bench is too deep, and there's additional shelving in the way.

  6. I have the same issue, but for me it's more like 1 per 2-300 now.

I assume that it's because the case feeder is shaking during the downstroke.

I've read that some people have better luck only loading small amounts of brass (200 rds) into the case feeder at one time.

  7. I've fired 5.0 grains pf WSF with a MG 124 CMJ at 1.140" OAL, and was only making about 1,070 fps out of a 4.5" barrel. I wouldn't be too concerned dropping your OAL from 1.169 to somewhere around 1.140" +/- .005, personally. 1.169" is very long, and WSF isn't spikey with pressure levels like faster powders.

  8. I'm using the .195 front on a G17.

Impact is about 2" high of POA at 25 yards running 124 gr MG JHP at 1,100 fps.

I'm going to try a .205 front (in the mail), and I imagine it will bring the POI down to near the top of the front blade.

Are you using the fixed rear Dawson Charger? If so then the impact your getting is what i want( using the .195 front )

Yes, I have the fixed rear Dawson Charger (with the .145" width) to get the current 2" high at 25 yard POI.

  10. What weights/source info. are you comparing? Berry's website lists 147's as $99.74 per 1K ($.09974 EA), vs. Montana Gold's 147 CMJ at $.101 EA.

    I was looking at:

    MG - 124gn CMJ @ $108/1000 on MG site

    BB - 124gn FPHB @ $85/1000 from TJ Conevera

Not a huge difference and if you want jacketed MG is the way to go.

Sorry to OP'er for hijacking thread!!

Makes no sense to buy Montana Golds in less than case quantity, unless you're just trying them out.

If you buy in case quantity, they're essentially the same price as plated, but you get a jacketed bullet.
