  1. Got to shoot it so more today and I like it. I realized it was more the 125g rounds that was causing my finger to hurt. I shot some 115g rounds and not a problem. I'm still having issues with it not firing when i push the slide down or rest it on a gun rest so I emailed him and hopefully hear from him tomorrow for this fix. Nice trigger though
  2. just got back from shooting 100 rounds and i'm not to crazy about the trigger surface. It hurt to pull the trigger. I'm not sure if it's the safety in the trigger or the trigger itself but when he returns my call i'm going to ask him if there is some fix to this. Maybe I can sand it down or he has another type of trigger that is closer to the stock trigger cause that one doesn't hurt my trigger finger at all.
  3. I ordered the Match kit from Powder River. I liked the adjustments they made to the kit and after watching their youtube videos on installing it and how it worked i thought it would be the best fit for me. I didn't buy the pin punch kit b/c i thought I could save a few $ by going to sears or home depot but neither had what I needed so i went To Springer's and got their pin punch b/c i wanted the extended mag release and PRP was all out. Kind of wished I got the pin punch kit from PRP because I like the round knob at the end to hold on to. Springers doesn't have that but oh well. Got my extended mag release and pin punch set yesterday and took me 5 min to open the package and install it. Very easy. Praying that I get the trigger kit today because i'm going crazy lol. I want to install it and test it out so bad !!!!! Did you get the Ultimate Easy Fit kit or the Ultimate Match kit? The sear makes a HUGE difference in the overall performance. IMO it's not worth getting the kit w/o the sear. If you were to just get the safety lever, springs, and trigger, you would have to remove a substantial amount of the overtravel stop that's integrated into the trigger in order to get the OEM sear to release the striker. This means that if you ever wanted to upgrade to the improved PRP sear, you would have extra overtravel. Also, you save $20 by getting the Ultimate Match Kit from the start as opposed to paying $110 for the easy fit kit and $55 for the sear later. I got the ultimate match kit. Just got it today and just got done installing it. Wasn't easy but wasn't hard. Had a little issue with the safety lever and trigger. Got it in but for some reason if i fire it with my weak hand, it wont fire but when i transfer it to my strong it does. So not exactly sure whats going on when i have the safeties and trigger fully pressed. Also i tried pulling the trigger when pushing the slide down like he shows you in the youtube video and mine wont fire but when i release the pressure it does. I'm not sure if there is something i have to fit for that. He doesn't say on instructions or anything. Thinking i might try a few shots tonight

  5. Shot my first match this past sunday and had a lot of fun. Got to shoot with many great shooters including GM's Keith Garcia and John Bagakis. Very cool getting to meet them and have them talk me through each stage and calm me down after the last stage (where I did the worst and got frustrated) One of these day's I'll beat them lol but can't wait to shoot more matches with them since we all share the same home range. With nationals so close, the stages were extra hard and long but a lot of fun. Had to deal with a texas star and 8 plate rack @25 yds on the last stage where I did the worse and dealt with a spinning plate rack on the first stage which i knocked down every plate. My demise was no shoots and FTE. Second the buzzer went off, my plan left my mind and I got a little flustered. It felt like the stages were chaotic towards the end but i'm sure that's due to some frustration and fatigue since it turned out to be a longer match then i have expected. Just got the results today and wasn't the worse shooter but darn near close to it. Shot 12.26% but for it being my first stage and shooting pretty hard stages (according to the GM's) i'm pretty happy with it. Any match you don't DQ is a good match in my mind. Hopefully I'll be getting my Powder River Match Grade Trigger Kit, Springer Pin Punch set and Springer extended mag release tomorrow in the mail so I can make the upgrades after school and test it out this weekend some time. Off to do some dry fire practice!!
  6. I can't wait to get mine in the mail!!!! I thought it was going to come today but it better come tomorrow because I'm going to go crazy lol.
  7. Just got back my scores for my first match and i shot 12.27% Kinda disapointed in it but hopefully Ill be better after I put in the new powder river trigger kit and extended mag release.
  8. Welcome to the world of Practical shooting and to Brian's Forums. This place has helped me out a lot and everyone here is nice and very knowledgeable. I see your in concord. The United Sportsman is in that area and they have a great range and you also can come down to Richmond. There are a lot of great shooters at Richmond and they are all very nice. Easy to fit in and talk to the more experienced shooters when your knew. What range are you planning at shooting at? Just IDPA or are you going to shoot some USPSA/IPSC too?
  9. Any one have the newer match trigger kit by Powder River Perfection in their xd? Just ordered it today along with a springer extended mag release and the pin puch set. Just wondering how people like it.
  10. Springfield Xd9 Tactical. All Stock right now but I ordered a powder river match trigger kit and an extended mag release since I have smaller hands. So i'm hoping to get it this week sometime so I can install it. Still learning what ammo i shoot better with and getting confident with my stock sights. a GM came up to me and showed me his gun and sights and i just said "wana trade" lol
  11. Just got back from the match and.......didn't get DQ'd !!!!!!! 5 stages or should I say 5 hard stages. Few of the A M and GM shooters said I chose one hell of a match to start with lol. First stage had a spinning plate rack which I completed! 2nd stage was a classifier 99-48 which I completed in under 10 secs. Third stage had a lot of off balance shooting and shooting on the move. 4th stage was just a complete mess lol. There were a lot of openings that you had to shoot from and I didn't do so well. Missed a plate that was hidden behind a larger popper. Just kinda got flustered when I started shooting. I was so conscious about not breaking the 180 rule and keeping my finger out of the trigger guard when moving that i ended up forgetting my strategy. 5th stage was the worse for me. Consisted of a 8 plate rack, a texas star and 4 paper targets. I had never shot a texas star so left that for last and decided to shoot the plate rack first. Bad Idea.....I had never shot a plate rack at such a long distance so I missed and left 4 plates standing and then got about 3 of the 5 plates on the texas star. I got so frustrated at the plates but I didn't quit. I kept shooting till I couldn't shoot no more. Really happy for my first match when I didn't have a clue on what it as going to consist of. Ordered a Powder river trigger kit which I hope to get this week and instal. I need to save up and get dawson sights i think.
  12. I am going to be shooting my first actual match tomorrow and after today's practice session (which was the worse I've ever had) i'm pretty nervous. I'm nervous to the point that I don't know if I really want to shoot tomorrow. I know as long as i'm safe and take my time since i'm new and help paste and reset targets that i'll be fine, but i don't want to be the guy that slow's down the group and ends up not being able to hit a popper to save my life. I'm more worried about embarrassing myself than just having fun and becoming a better shooter.......any advice?
  13. Last Week I shot a couple stages @ my uncle's local club and the guy before me quit in the middle of the stage. He was shooting at a texas star and just had a hard time making the shots. Seeing this made me nervous since I was next and I didn't want to have the same issue. It took me 9 shots to complete it (took me 3 shots on the last plate), but as I was shooting it I could see how the guy before me gave up after emptying two mags and still not completing it I'm just wondering how many people have given up durring a stage or had really considered it when things weren't going their way?
  14. It's HERE Got my Midway USA Competition Range (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=939259680) for a great price..... $39 I love this bag and can't wait to use it tomorrow when I got to RRGC to practice for Sunday's match!!!!!! It's huge and made of great quality. It came with to pistol rugs/holders, brass bag, nice shoulder strap, inner ammo bag that is removable, has 8 magazine pouches to keep them from banging on each other and alot of pockets. I got in the bag right now: Sig Mosquito (.22lr) Springfield XD9 Tactical (9mm 5in. barrel) 300rds of 125g 9mm reloads by MIWAL 500rds of blazer .22lr ammo and a 50rd pack of .22lr hollow points from Remington that I'm going to see how it feeds through my Sig Mosquito 50 orange peel targets Several targets I printed off of the internet that i like to use Tape Stapler 9mm bore snake 9mm bore brush Hoppes oil extra recoil springs First Aid Kit Hand sanitizer Towels and gloves 3 ready tactical mag pouches Springfield xd double mag pouch Springfield Xd Adjustable Paddle Holster Allen Wrench to adjust holster Tactical LED light Winchester Knife Ear protection Water Stage diagrams for a classifier on 10/9 and for Bay Bridge Charity Classic on 10/24 (http://mrshooter.com/baybridgecharitymatch.html) I think thats it When I get some time and in the mood i'm going to put on a Springfield Armory American Flag patch and my USPSA patch i received for becoming a member. I can't wait to see how it works at the range. It's a definite improvement over my old elementary backpack that I have been using since.
  15. Does any one have the "cliff notes" to what this bill that the governor signed all entails? One guy said I need to make sure i get rid of all my ammo when it goes into effect and he never said why. How does this affect reloading? Does it affect ammo you have already purchased and or reloaded yourself? I've found a few sites with info but they're more law/constitutional written than plain english if you catch my drift. I just want to know the key points lol
  16. Me and a couple of my buddies are all about the "watch this!" So is this the hidden secret to becoming a GM?
  17. I'm new to USPSA shooting and I'm going to be shooting in my first "big time" local match and i'm still getting use to how to read the stage diagrams. There are some symbols that I'm not exactly sure of and was wondering if there is a standard Key or something that I can use to help me figure the stages out. one symbol is a curly "back word looking six" over a target and I'm not sure what that means. I know it doesn't mean that it's a swinger.
  18. i am 22 and shoot the xd9 tactical. I love it. I'm able to control the recoil great and transition btwn targets very easily. I'm not a huge fan of the sights so I would definitely get some Dawson Sights or some other kind of after market sights on it no matter which one you decide to go with. I decided to buy the tactical because this gun is strictly for competition. I like the longer barrel so thats why I went with the tactical. I personally think it depends on what you are more comfortable with. I don't think there is a HUGE advantage of the Service over the Tactical or vice versa. I think the best thing to do is shoot both guns and see what better suits you. I can shoot the compact just as well as the service or tactical. If i had to shoot it in competition I would feel just as comfortable with the 3 in. barrel as i would the 5 in. Find out what suits you the best!!!!!! Either way the XD is an EXCELLENT Gun
  19. Depends on what division you want to shoot. I'm a college student who can't afford much so I shoot Production. I shoot a Springfield XD9 Tactical (9mm). In Production, everything is scored as minor so shooting a 45 auto isn't very ideal since everyone else will be shooting 9mm or 40 s&w with the reduced recoil compared to a 45 auto. Your also limited to 10rds in a mag. You can't do many upgrades compared to open so there's another reason for the more economical shooter like myself. In Limited and Limited 10 there is a minor and major scoring factor. Here its better to have a 40 S&W or 45 auto so you can make the major power factor and get scored as major. Only main difference between Limited and Lim 10 is that in Lim 10 your limited to 10 rds a mag. In open, these are your "Space"/"High Tech" looking guns. You can basically build your gun however you want and put any goodies you want on it. 1) What gun, caliber, would you buy? I have a 9mm and love it but I would recommend a 40 S&W. Most people like glocks but I'm a Springfield Guy so I would recommend the XD40 Tactical or XDm 40. 40 S&W are very customizable. You can tailor them to make minor factor for production and tailor them for Limited/Lim10 and make Major. Find a gun that fits you well. One that you can control the recoil, acquire targets fast, and reach the controls easily. 2) Is one brass caliber harder then another to buy for reloading? Supply and demand 9mm easier than 40 or 38super I don't think one is harder than the other in terms of supplies. Mainly price wise depending on what kind of load you want to produce. Hopefully you have already started saving your brass if you are shooting now If not start saving!!!!!!
  20. I'm shooting a springfield xd9 (5" barrel). It's a 9mm If 9mm in Production is your primary use, buy win or fed ball ammo at Walmart for $210/k including tax. Sell your once fired cases for $50/k. Your net will be around $ 160 or so. It will cost you $130-140 to load them. Take the time you would spend reloading and be dry firing instead.Reloading is not without its risks. Lose a finger or an eye in a primer explosion (very rare, but it does happen)or maybe just blow up a barrel or the whole gun and the savings of $30/k will look pretty small indeed. I have witnessed an M1 Garand receiver split open(slamfire from a soft primer), Colt 45 Gold Cup dust cover bent down where a squib was lodged in the barrel, Browning HiPower barrel and slide burst open and a Browning 525 O/U totally destroyed by a wad stuck in the forcing cone, another squib. All of these with reloads. I have never seen a gun ruined with a factory shell...just something to think about. I am not trying to rain on your parade. I do have a 450, 550 and 1050 in my basement that I use for calibers other tham 9mm, so I am not the Anti-Loader . Be safe and have fun in your shooting career. Walmarts in the Bay Area Don't sell Ammo any more. Cheapest I can get 9mm ammo is at the local sporting good store when they have 9mm ammo on sale for $16/50
  21. I'm trying to decide on either the sdb or the 550. I don't have a rifle and being a college student I don't have the money for a AR type rifle and then the ammo on top of that so I'm trying to decide which one I should get for now. I go back and forth btwn the sdb and 550 every minute lol
  22. I've found that I shoot better when i'm listening to music. I think it relaxes me and doesn't give my mind the chance to over think everything I do. Anyone else find this to be true for them or just like listening to music when they shoot?
