  1. the paper manuel you get with a new gun is pretty instructive, even if it was written by an Italian. Tthe faceless cartoon guy in the diagrams is wearing a tie, which is really funny. i almost never wear a tie when maintaining firearms. Must be an eye-talian thang.

  2. the first book speeds WAY up at about halfway. dont stop now. The Swedish Tattoo movie was great. I lived in Sweden for a summer back in 1977 (college job) and the setting, language and mannerisms really brought back memories. Be sure to watch the movie in Swedish and subtitles. Forget the dubbed version. Listen to the dialogue, even if you cant really understand it.

The Fire book and movie were not nearly as good as the Tattoo ones, but worth reading/watching. The Hornet Nest book is better than Fire, but not as good as Tattoo. I havent see the 3rd movie.

The firearm references are hilarious in the book series. Big deals about the "hunting" ammo and registration, but are reflective of Swedish laws and culture. Several different firearms are used and discussed and it is clear the author had an interest if not much expertise.

  3. When loading weakhanded, the first two shells are much faster and easier than the 3rd and definitely the 4th. Watching Keith Garcia's video I'm trying to see if he's doing anything I'm not to roll those shells up into position.

Is there anything you do differently with the 3rd and 4th shell?

I'm starting to practice with just those two in my hand, in the position they'd be in if I'd already loaded 1 and 2.

I have the same problem with # 3 and #4. I think the solution is to be sure you keep rolling the shells beside each other during the load so you dont end up with shells away form the chute. try to keep the base of all shells sliding along your ring finger. Hard to explain, but i can feel the difference if done right.

  4. Whoever is doing Steel Challenge, .22 is a big deal, especialy .22 rifle. Lots of very fast, very cheap fun. We do a match on the 4th sat of each month and numbers are rising, especially .22 caliber. It is also a great way to work out the kinks in a single stack, open, limited, revo, whatever - in a match setting. Several of of us shoot 2 guns, in the same squad. Since there is no pasting or re-setting, it is pretty easy to double up. That may change if the popularity continues to increase. For me, shooting an AR .22 conversion and/or the S&W .22 dedicated AR platform, one with optics and one without, is lots of fun and doesn't break the bank.

  5. I can just shoot nose to charging handle using a Meopta or Accupoint and a Larue SPR-E. Barely, especially with the Accupoint. However, I think it is the best extended mount or scout rail available. I have a couple of old Accuracy Speaks rails that go further out, but they are very heavy for 3 Gun shooting. Beware of attaching a scope or mount to the forend - it will move when you crank down on your sling or brace against something. Sort of defeats the purpose of a free float barrel.

this is a great looking shotgun with very cool history. complete mismatch is very feng shui. i would replace the sidesaddle with something from 3-gun gear or otto. the plastic sidesaddles can be problematic ie, your shells might all fall out in the middle of a match. I know this for a fact.

  7. Go for both. My bet is that you can't lose. 2 rifles are better than one and you could probably make a buck if you sold one. Assuming that is legal of course. Good luck with the bureauracracy. (Whoa - my spelling is off. Brian- we need spell check on this site!)

  8. It is disabled in all my guns just for consistency sake.

IMO: The reason being a long time ago, tuning mags was part voodoo magic and part skill. It was fairly common to have Limited guns go to slide lock on the second to last round in a magazine. So many shooters just had it disabled either by the slide release or magazine follower. It only takes a couple of times to be finishing as COF and needing that second to last bullet and have the gun go to slide lock to have it disabled.

Now days it seems the followers are so much better that it is not as common to go to slide lock with two rounds left in a mag.

+1 on this. Disabling the slide lock is probably a passing fad. good riddance.

  9. Thnaks Guys. I am definitely ignorant when it comes to Benellis, but that is changing. My confusion began when I looked in the Brownells catalogue. It worsened when I went to the Brileys web site, and remained after I looked at some vendor's sites.:

To recap: Crio Plus is a Benelli choke pattern for the M2, not a brand name of any choke manufacturer. Briley and Carlson make Crio Plus chokes. Maybe other manufacturers do too. If you have a stock Benelli M2, you need Crio Plus. Beware if the choke is for a "Benelli" without any further explanation, since different Benellis require different type chokes.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

  10. Single stage with a little creep and a sharp break is what I like. great for hosing but still a little take up for those long shots.

    TRICKPONY

To me, Trick Pony's setup would be unsat - sort of worst of both. I like either/or so I guess I like both. With long range precision I would give a slight preference to 2 stage. For 3-gun I would def go for the JP single. Short range hosing I can tell no difference.

  11. I am right eye dominant and right handed. Good thing, since I have a blind spot in my central vision in my left eye (occular histoplasmosis). Shooting a rifle lefthanded at any distance is hopeless for me.

However, I have one son left handed, right eye dominant and another son right handed left eye dominant. My left hand son shoots everything right handed, and does very well. I think he is a little ambidextrous. My right handed son also shoots everything right handed. He uses his left eye for pistol, but right eye for long guns. He struggles a little with the long guns. I encouraged him to shoot long guns right handed due to the way they are set up. I question that now. This is a good thread. Dads and instructors should pay heed.

  12. This is a little off the theme, but say you are new to Benelli and want to add 2 or 3 extended chokes to ones that come with an M2. There seem to be 3 different variations of Brileys. Which is best for our game? Also what about other brands? Will Beretta chokes fit Benellis? M2 Benellis? I am confused as to what fits and the differences.
