  1. Mark: John Waters here. I'm all about the V-Tac sling. Will probably go with the buttstock attachment. Don't know about the forend. Wonder if those clamps that affix to the barrel and the tube affect accuracy? How/where did you afix the sling swivel in front?

  2. Has anyone tried Atlanta Arms and Ammo .45? The 230 Gr. load clocks in at 169PF according to AAA. Not sure on the bullet profile or primers. I know Danny has been pretty good about making small runs of ammo if demand is there. Just curious if anyone has experience with this before I ordered some.

I haven't chronoed it but the regular AA 230 gr doesn't ignite consistently in my Carmonized tuned up 625.

  3. I started an almost identical thread a few weeks ago. Same problem, just like 2 other guys I shoot with. FTE about every 50 rounds. Sent it back ot S&W with their address label. It came back in about 10 days. Shot it in practice about 125 rounds with no problem. Cleaned the barrel and chamber, then went to a match this weekend, and on the second stage another FTE.

This is obviously a common problem with the S&W Pro. The solution as I understand it is to have the extractor tweaked or replaced (apparently there is a new one that S&W will install), polish the chamber or get an after-market barrel, AND possibly replace the extractor spring with a stronger one (or double it up). I do not understand the specifics of the spring thing, but I have heard it is necessary on some guns and requires some gunsmithing. Looks like I have one of those guns.

The Pro is a great gun in concept, but S&W needs to admit the problem and fix it.

Mine is again going back to S&W with a stern letter. We will see how that goes.

  4. Yesterday, my brand new M&P Pro failed to extract 6 times in the first 300 rounds. Exact same issue every time - empty case partially pulled out of the chamber about 1/4", maybe less, then extractor lets go and gun jams when it tries to feed another round. Seemed to happen evenly through the session. This is a time consuming malfunction to fix, since you have to lock the slide back, pull out the mag, drop the slide and then rack again to eject the case, then load new mag. Another guy I know has had same problems, and had 2 such jams today in an IDPA match, before he switched guns. My understanding is that this is a problem recognized by S&W, but I am not sure about that. I have also been told that PMC factory ammo works "better." Atlanta Arms and Wal Mart white box do not work well from my experience.

Also, my front sight is not centered, causing hits to the right.

This is disappointing, since the std 9mm M&P I have has worked well, but I feel it needs some more length for 25 yd + shots. As it is, my Pro is not match-worthy.

Any info or similiar experiences on this?

  5. Hand out the sponser's prizes anyway the match director wants. Just advertise it advance, like Jeff said, so everyone can choose,

However, to make this game interesting and potentially profitable (to those who what to participate), we need to take a lesson from golf and set up a betting system. We could handicap for ability and equipment class. Maybe have a "shotgun" match where a shotgun is actually used. No one would be forced to put money in, but those who do would have a shot at part of the pot. It would take a little math, but if golfers can do it , I guess shooters could. If this really caught on, a portion of the entry fee could be put in the pot.

I didn't study the whole thread, so this may have already been suggested.

  6. I vote RRA. I have one set up just like my 3-gun match rifle (forend, grip, optic, sling etc) and it is great for practice - ammo is cheaper ahd you can shoot it in places and at targets where rifle caliber is not allowed or not a good idea.

  7. I used one for a couple of years in 3-gun. Very good glass, but for me it is heavy and big around, reticle is busy, can't see any red during daylight, dot is too big for long range and I couldn't remember to turn it off so battery was often out. I prefer a Trijicon Accupoint, and would like to have a new one with crosshairs and mildots.

  8. I have had the same problem. I use an Accuracy Speaks top rail with my Accupoint. I think they call it a Scout Rail, but is covers the whole top of the receiver and extends over the handguard. It is heavy, but gives enough eye relief and is VERY stable. I would not recommend attaching an optic to the receiver and the front handguard. There will be some flex if you squeeze down on the sling. This is the reason for a free float tube.

  9. What is the hot set-up for sights on a Remington 1187? I am looking for something more slug friendly than a high-viz front and bead rear. I have heard a lot of good things about the X-S system. Does anybody sell barrels with sights installed?

  10. Ha! The box-o-truth is an eye-opener! I hope he tests brick wall corners and vehicle doors/bodies. I suspect that most material we consider to be "cover" is really just "concealment."

However, that has nothing to do with IDPA rules.
