  1. Is a rangefinder really necessary?

Not if you have a trustworthy friend or squadmate with one. I don't have one that works worth a durn, but it is still on my list so I'll know what I don't have.

A lot of the stuff on my list is not necessary or even desirable except for certain events.

  2. I have a Benelli M-2 (Salient). I am consistently shooting low, especially at close in targets. I think I need to raise the stock drop to raise my point of impact. However, the Benelli instructions are not helpful. If I am hitting low, do I raise the stock drop? Is that the same as raising the "drop value at heel"? Any other hints would be appreciated. Thanks.

  3. I suffered through some of this. It may be that the top round in full mag - especially if you are at slide lock - is hitting the ejector. I am told this is a common problem with 9mm single stacks. It will cause a jam and break/loosen the ejector. Take the slide off and check how it looks when inserting a full mag. my gunsmith shaved a little off the ejector. there are other solutions. Ask Virgil Tripp about this issue.

  4. when i say a new diffusion choke, i mean new to me. i used the Brileys from Power Factor. i had no misses on the clays at 25 yds today, and shot probably at least 10 - 15 at that distance. all were busted, not just nicked. Like I say the steel was another story until i got closer. I put a few on paper and they were very dispersed but pretty consistent. anecdotal, but convincing to me.

  5. a new diffusion choke on 24" and 21" BEnellis will bust a clay very well at 25 yds but steel falls very slow if at all. at 15 yds all is good, and the plates come right off the Texas star. However, not all Texas stars are created equal, so YMMD. also, I am not talking about super heavy steel, like you might find at TAC-2 or Knob Creek.

  6. I used to use a mixture of Kroil and Shooters Choice. Recommended by a very successful long range shooter. Seemed to work well but that Kroil is pretty potent. I am getting more and more sensitive to solvents (and perfumes, lotions, etc) as I get older. Raw throat and headache even in well ventilated area.

Lately I usually just use the Breakfree CLP (the one with some cleaner agent) and it does not bother me. Although I don't think it works nearly as well.

Anybody know of any kinder gentler stuff that works?
