Why not get a carry optic top end for your current production gun? Then you have the trigger and all the kit (mags, holster) you are already used to. CZ Custom sells the uppers stand alone.

I am completely set up for multiple platforms

From a magazine standpoint.....I am actually better set up on the M&P.

Still making a decision between the two.....

  2. Hi Guys,

I know that New York has enacted magazine capacity restrictions.

My question is....how has this affected USPSA matches?  Are all magazines limited?

I am wondering since California's bans all standard capacity magazines on July 1.  There is much debate here as to what will happen to USPSA matches.

How many Open guns do you see with back up sights ???

Very good point and one that I had considered.   Open guns do have a much higher optic and would be harder to mount BUIS on.....

  4. Hi All,

I was thinking of getting into Carry Optics.

For those that ARE shooting Carry Optics.....do you use Back Up Iron Sights (Co-witnessed or lower 1/3 co-witnessed)?

I have seen guys shooting strong hand or weak hand who were unable to find the dot.  I have also seen optics go down on people during a match.  I am wondering if BUIS might be an asset?

On the other hand--I am a Master Class Production shooter.  I will dry fire and my Index WILL be solid.

All of that said......do I need BUIS?  What do you think?

  5. Hi Guys,

I was thinking about getting my Shadow slide milled for a DeltaPoint Pro (Carry Optics Gun).

    A few questions:

    1)  Can you please recommend a reputable company to do the milling?  Looking for the usual--good work, good prices, fast turnaround, stand behind work, etc..

    2)  Are there any known issues with milling CZ slides for optics?  I worry a bit about the extractor pin on the top of the slide.

    3)  Can CZs have their optics mounted low or are there issues there?

    4)  Anything else I should know about milling CZ slides?

    5)  For those who shoot carry optics, do you use backup sights?

    Many thanks in advance!

  6. Hi Guys,

I was thinking about getting my M&P slide milled for a DeltaPoint Pro (Carry Optics Gun).  Before you say, "Just get an M&P Core."  I live in California and can't buy one.

  7. This question is for those who once shot with one eye open and now shoot with 2 eyes open.

How long did it take you to fully make the transition?

I have shot with one eye open for 6 years and made M class in Production.  I have plateaued a bit and want to try shooting with both eyes open.

I am asking how long it takes because I am shooting Area 1 in 20 days.

I plan to go all in on dry fire and live fire to make the transition, but wonder how long it took you guys to do this?  How long did it take for your "2 eye game" to equal your "1 eye game?"

  8. I have a dry fire routine that took me from B Class to M Class.

However, I never used a dry fire timer.  To get to GM, I think that I have to change that.

Is there a dry fire timer or phone ap that really stands out from the rest?

    Many thanks in advance.

If you have the choice between no match one weekend, and an IDPA match -

you cannot lose anything by shooting the IDPA match.

It's "trigger time" ....  and match experience.

I, personally, could not manage to shoot both USPSA and IDPA - the rules

(esp reloading) were too confusing for me to go back and forth.

To get better at USPSA, I'd try dry fire, live fire and USPSA matches,

if they were all available.

I used to shoot USPSA 3 or 4 times a month.

My area recently had a FEW clubs close down (total disaster, but that is another story), so that put me down to 2 USPSA matches a month.

I have taken to shooting 1 IDPA match per month to make up some of the difference.

I don't think the rules are that hard.  In both sports, you are basically executing a stage plan.  The USPSA plan is often more complex (more intricate footwork and longer stages) and varied.  The IDPA plan is less complex and more driven by the rules than the shooter's choice.  In both sports, the failure to follow and properly execute your stage plan will cost you.  In both sports, you have to be both fast and accurate to compete at the highest levels.

Back when I was a B class USPSA shooter, moving between USPSA and IDPA was really hard.  Now that I am in USPSA Master class, it is no big deal.  I think this is because I am now much, much better at locking a good stage plan into memory and then executing it the way I planned it.  Both sports test the mental and practical aspects of shooting.

  10. I have to buy a new upper for an AR (.223) to make it California legal (don't get me started--the amount of money that I have to waste to make guns Cali legal is absolutely amazing).

I could get a junk upper or I could do something interesting/useful.  I chose the latter course of action and was thinking of getting an upper for longer distances (e.g.,18 to 20 inch barrel, handguard that is good for bracing, still in .223,).

What is the new, cool upper to buy for longer distances?  I am hoping to get a complete upper.  It must have a compensator (and the lower has a whole host of ignorant requirements which I will spare you) to be Cali legal.

  11. Hi Guys,

I am trying to diagnose a gun problem.  Here is a link to a public Dropbox picture:

    2016-09-27%2014.09.39.jpg

I am trying to determine what causes a malfunction like this (the above is simulated with a dummy round).

This is a .40 CAL 1911 with rounds loaded to 1.125.  The bullets have a rounded profile and a small flat point.  I get about 1 malfunction of this type per every 200 rounds and I have no idea what is causing it.  The gun is kept clean and lubcricated.  I run Wilson Combat 10mm magazines (based on the 47D design I think).

When shooting, I usually can slap the back of the slide to get it to go into battery.  That works most of the time, but this is obviously a stage wrecker.

Do I need a longer / shorter OAL?  Do I need a stronger/weaker recoil springs?  More stout loads?  Different magazines?  Something else?

How would you go about trouble shooting this?
