  1. Any downsides to these?  Obviously it might be a bit harder to shoot off the top of a barricade (although this rarely happens) and it does represent a potential snag hazard.  It might also get in the way of getting a good grip if you should miss.

Just overthinking things in my usual way.  ;-)

I put a BCM KAG grip on mine but my barrel / muzzle device is only 11 inches. I wanted a way to feel that my index finger wasn’t hanging over the front of the barrel?. It sure helps me pull the carbine in tight too.

That is the one I was looking at.

  3. I am new to the whole PCC thing.  I was wondering what people thought of hand stops?

On one hand, it seems like a good way to get a consistent grip on the carbine and potentially can give you more leverage in pulling it into your shoulder.

On the other hand, I rarely see top shooters running them.

    Thoughts on the matter?

With the 14.5" barrel, the slower powder, N350, felt smoother than the N320.

The takeaway from my testing is that with 9mm a short barreled gun (pistol) likes a faster powder and a long barreled gun (carbine) likes a slower powder.

And every barrel has its preference as to which bullet weights it likes.

Is your 14.5 inch barrel a JP or another barrel?

I have a JP and hear they run a little slower.

Understand I've only tested for functionality and feel.  I haven't chrono'd the loads yet, but here is what I used:

    Thank you sir!

How did N320 do vs N350 in felt recoil?

  6. I am a long time production shooter moving over to PCC.

In Production, I always ran VV N320.  I know it is an expensive powder, but I loved it.

    It was:

    1)  Clean burning.

    2)  Cool--I could pick up spent brass immediately after firing and it wasnt even hot.  I believe this is better for the gun.

    3)  It metered well.

    4)  No smoke or other issues.

In PCC, I am looking at going to a SLOWER powder.

My first thought was VV N350.

But does anyone know of a slow burning powder that has some of the qualities that I liked in N320?

    Many thanks!

  7. Thank you for this.  I reviewed his videos and he does a good job from a 30K foot perspective.  Unless I missed something, he does not have much on stance, grip, entering and exiting positions, shooting on the move, reloads, transitions, drills, etc..

I am literally looking for PCC fundamentals.

  8. I am a fairly experienced pistol shooter (M Class), but PCC and ARs are fairly new to me.

Are there any You Tube videos or other media that does a good job of discussing USPSA style rifle technique?

I want to start with proper technique and avoid building bad habits when I start extensive dry/live fire.

    Many thanks in advance!

  9. I own a complete JP GMR-13.  I am not the biggest fan of the lower with its hard to release magazine and other minor issues.  JP has corrected these issues with the GMR-15, but they do not sell the lower by itself.

Does anyone know of a 9mm lower that:

    1)  Is compatible with Glock magazines.

    2)  Will run perfectly with my GMR-13 upper on top.

    3)  Generally is awesome (nice magwell, trigger, SCS compatible, etc., etc.)!

I am sure that others have been down this road before and I am curious what folks have to say.

Hello: Buy the JP 223 spring kit. Also buy 2 steel weights and play with them until you find what you like. I am currently running one steel, 2 tungsten and one aluminum weight with the green spring on one PCC. The other I have 3 steel and 1 tungsten weights with the black spring. This is on one Quarter Circle 10 Glock lower and a Quarter Circle 10 Colt lower. Both I am using 147 grain Acme bullets with Tite Group powder. Saying all this I ran the stock JP 9mm buffer setup in the last match in my QC10 Colt lower and did very well with it. You will have to see what works best for you and use the timer as your guide. Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric--I am at work now and cannot look but......what configuration (weights and springs) does the stock JP SCS come with in GMRs?

  11. Hi DS,

    Thank you for your post.

I am running a 14.5 inch (pinned) barrel with the new JP 3 port compensator (not the smaller tactical one).

I have TWO loads for the carbine:

    1)  My production load--147 grain FMJ bullet at 1.10 OAL with 3.6 grains of N320.  Federal or Winchester primers.  I have many thousands of these loaded.

    2)  A load I made for the carbine figuring that my production load would be too hot (I don't have many of these)--147 grain ACME bullet over an FMJ bullet at 1.10 OAL with 3.2 grains of N320.

    3)  Dot is moving up and right.  More right than up.  I am right handed.

  12. The title just about says it all.  For a JP GMR-13, what is the ideal buffer and spring combo for GMR-13s running 147 grain bullets?  This can be on a JP SCS system or on independent buffers / springs.  Oh--and I do have a carbine length buffer tube which I am thinking of swapping out for a rifle length.

My new GMR-13 runs OK (not perfectly, but OK), but dot bounce is surprisingly high.

I could load lighter and faster bullets, but I have lots and lots of 9mm 147 grain bullets loaded (Production shooter) and want to optimize my carbine for these heavy, slow bullets.  After I exhaust these bullets, I can go to fast and light and a different buffer / spring configuration.

    Many thanks in advance!

    You should try McMaster-Carr

Thank you.  This is a great site.  Which screw would you recommend?  There are a lot of types in the M4x.7x15.8mm category.  Zinc, Stainless Steel, Alloy Steel, etc.

Some of the ones with the highest tensile strength (not certain I truly understand what that is) also say that they are "not recommended for high strength fastening."

What will best stand up to repeated recoil?

  14. I have heard many people complain about the poor quality of the OEM screws on the Leupold Deltapoint Pro (which is otherwise an excellent optic).

My question is....what aftermarket screws are people using as a replacement for the M4x.7x15.8mm screws?

Please send a link if possible so that I can buy them.

    Many thanks in advance.

Haha. You guys are worried about shooting with both eyes open and here I am struggling to keep from closing both between shots.

I shot my first gun about a year ago and bought my first pistol 2 months ago. I'm really interested in participating in USPSA. Notice I didn't say competing? LOL. Looks like fun and that's my motivation. I will worry about it being more than fun if my skills progress.

We all start somewhere.  If you stick with it, you will get better.  Much better.

  16. I was about to buy a Shadow slide from CZ Custom.  It would go on an AccuShadow frame that I already have.

The CZC product page talks about "fitting" possibly being necessary.  What part of the slide or frame exactly might need to bit fit?  It seems like this upper should just drop on.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. I sent mine to Springer Precision for the milling. They mill further back compared to CZ Custom. Cost was around $160 for milling and cerakote. Took about 5 weeks to turnaround for me.

    2. Issue seems to be milling further forward on slide close to the extractor.

    3. I found mine to be decently low.

    4. I just had mine done and have limited experience.

    5. No sights on mine.

I'll be at Richmond on Sunday for the match if you would like me to bring it to check out. I have only shot it once at a classifier match so I have very limited experience with it.

Yes--I would love to check it out!  I will be there Sunday!
