  1. Guys,

I run a G35 in Limited 10 and have to twist my hand a little to activate the Glock (i.e., extended) magazine release. I would rather not do this.

I am wondering if any of you have any experience with the aftermarket mag releases that are as long as the Glock extended release but extend a little further back (i.e., toward the shooter)?

I know that T.H.E. Accessories, Aro-tek, Ghost, Cylinder and Slide, and JP Enterprizes make such releases. Are they any good? Does one stand out? Does one suck? I am missing a good one in my list?

NOTE--I am sincerely interested in hearing if you have had problems with any of these. I am particularly concerned about picking guns up of off tables and activating the release or activating the release while shooting left handed, etc.. If these are common problems......I will probably just stick with the factory parts.

  2. Is there a rule of thumb for comparing shooter scores across divisions?

For example, if an L10 shooter shoots 70% of the high score for a match, what might that shooter have expected for a score had he shot a Limited gun? 80%?

Guesses are fine, but I imagine this could be gleaned from looking at results in the Nationals or some other "scientific" method.

NOTE: I KNOW that the correct answer is to NOT compare shooters across classes or to look at their classification within a division to normalize.

This question stems for a discussion I had with some other shooters about scores in field courses. Everyone agreed that Open guns usually score the highest and people were filling in the following chart (and not agreeing much):

    OPEN: 100%

    Limited: ??

    L10: ??

    Production: ??

    SS: ??

    Revolver: ??

Naturally, L10 shooters thought Limited shooters had a huge advantage, Limited shooters felt the advantage over L10 was minimal, Production shooters felt that minor scoring was worth 20%, Open shooters thought they had little advantage, Revolver shooters just felt abused, etc., etc,.

Depends who shows up at the match.........

I don't see how this could work as it would vary too much depending on the set up of the stages. If a stage was wide open and the L10 shooter had to do standing reload(s) he would likely do significantly better with a Limited gun. If it was multiple ports with six shots through each then the L10 shooter reloading on the move wouldn't give up as nearly as much to the higher capacity Limited gun.

And although I don't think this is really a question about combined results, I like them. I want to know how I did relative to everyone in the match and I think most people understand the difference between official division results and combined "bragging rights" results.

You are both absolutely correct, although that is why I was talking about large data sets. Look at enough data and stage differences and individual skill differences wash out.

It is certainly statistically possible to calculate the effects of different equipment across divisions. I am just wondering if it has been done.

  3. CB--I tend to agree with you. Nonetheless--combined scores are a reality and people make comparisons.

Again--this is in response to a somewhat humorous discussion at one of my Clubs. Folks were filling in the above grid in a "self serving" way. I thought I would see if any "scientific" analysis had ever been done on this with large data sets (for example).

  5. I remember hearing that "Captains of Crush" grip strength trainers were a good way to increase grip strength and improve pistol control. Problem is....I don't remember where I heard this or if the source was credible.

    My question is:

    1) Is a stronger grip helpful in USPSA shooting (or more precisely) do you spend time working to increase your grip strength?

    2) If so, are Captains of Crush grip strength trainers the way to go or is there a better solution?

    Many thanks in advance.

  6. This weekend, we had a stage where you had to pull a rope to release a (non-disappearing) swinger.

Members of our super squad shot this while it was at rest and never activated the swinger.

Is that OK under the current rules?

Not complaining--I just want to know if I can do that going forward!

  7. [Moderator note: Merged thread.]

Someone told me that Limited and L10 classifiers draw from the same data set and are based on a common high hit factor.

Looking at http://www.classifie...c.com/.......if you enter the same Hit factor into MOST stages you get the same percentage score (giving some credence to the above). For example, entering a 6.0 Hit factor into both the Limited and Limited 10 calculator gives you 82.5537%.

However, on some stages the results are different.

    Can anyone explain this madness?

  8. I have lurked on these boards for a while and, having learned a lot from all of you, decided to join. I am from the East Bay (near San Francisco/Oakland). I have shot USPSA for about a year.

I am a B in Production and (as of the next scoring run) a B in L10. I mostly shoot at the Richmond Rod and Reel Club which is a hoot with some really great shooters.

I love the sport and love what I have read here. Looking forward to doing some posting instead of just lurking!
