  1. Thanks Tom.. possibly  considering an open revolver and haven't shot competition in over 15 years now.  Would like to know more about the "mover" scope technology,  I see items like the "stick shift" and Leupold Gilmore?  As far as revolver/load accuracy I like to start at the 50 and work back.

BTW: familiar with the barricade, at my first Bianchi Cup I tied for first place in the barricade event with Brian Enos..we had a shoot off - he won!

  2. Thinking about giving NRA Action Pistol a go again and have interest in the "L" frame 986 in 9mm.  Looking for feedback related to your 50 yard grouping feedback with that revolver - as required in the Practical event.  I have had great grouping with a Manhurin 9mm revolver with light JHP rds in the 110/115 grain range but see some posts on other forums that the 986 prefers the 147 gr lead bullet.

Have no idea of the actual barrel bore or cylinder bore diameter for the 986.

    Thanks

  3. Update: Installed (2) new Duracell 2016 batteries and the red dot really is bright (no excuses anymore)! One of the "brand new" Energizer batteries was only registering about .5 volts, the other 3v plus (and I just bought them).

The Duracell batteries have an expiration date, Energizer does not...so it's Duracell from now on. One pleasant surprise is that I have (2) Tasco Optima 2000 scopes and both are 8 MOA from the factory (not the 7.5 advertized).

  4. Thanks guys..don't intend on using a tube style scope again. Beginning to feel that the problem is with the batteries, the Tasco Optima does not have a brightnes adjustment..it's on..that's it. I remember that the scope really served me well a few years ago. Been thinking about possibly installing a layer of automobile window tint on the lense..to darken it up a bit. Just looked through it with my sunglasses in front of the lense..and it really helps the dot standout.

I'll wait for a few days until I pick up some new batteries and check the voltage on all of them..I'll get back to you.

    thanks

    Ed

  5. I am returning to handgun competition after a few years off. When I was shooting the Tasco Pro points with 30mm tubes were the norm. I did however pick up a Tasco Optima 2000 before Tasco went out of business. I like the scope because is is small, light, had good battery life etc.

The problem is went to a match yesterday and it was "very sunny". Had a real hard time distinguishing the red dot. Even installed (2) Energizer 2016 batteries to double the voltage. I don't remember having a problem years ago seeing the red dot. BUT since then I have had surgery in in my shooting eye for a torn retina and recently had cataracts removed. Good news is that I no longer need corrective lenses and can wear clear eye protection.

Might appear that I need to locate a brighter speed scope but can't locate another along the lines of the Nikko Sterling XT etc. I prefer something with at least a 7.5 MOA dot that will be mounted on a SW 627 N frame revolver. Would be great to use the scope mount on the revolver now because it positions the scope very low on the top strap.

Looking for information on other "compact speed scopes" in the .5 oz area, and a source that sells them. Will consider various reticle shapes and colors.

Would using Energizer vs Duracell batteries make any difference?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
