10-4...would like to see base mounting for one plate

Want to build a Bianchi spec plate rack for 22 rimfire only. Have 8" plates (1/4" thick). Have built racks with thicker plates for center fire but looking for suggestions to mount the plates so they will fall properly. Mounting brackets, calibration capabilities maybe? Obviously have welders, metal etc. Any suggestions with pics would be appreciated. Thanks BTW: Re-setting plates one at a time is OK.

In theory if the firing pin is relieved as discussed the ding into the cylinder should be reduced or even eliminated when dry firing. If S&W is the only rimfire revolver with this cylinder ding problem dry firing (not Colt/Ruger) it may indicate a design flaw, the revolver firing pins should strike further inward from the outside perimeter?

Warren Made a firing pin today from an old drill bit but it was too soft and bent! What did work was taking a Powers extended firing and removing the top of the pin at an angle (see drawing). I also removed the portion at the rear of the pin to ensure that the pin traveled fully going forward. (Drawing not to scale) The OAL of the pin remained the same just had material removed at the angle profile. The strike impressions on the rim still look circular but are slightly moved inboard. Using Federal bulk haven't had a misfire yet! First time I could get all 10 rds to fire a couple of times today. That's using your RevUp hammer. Should have a few of the Powers firing pins that already have the rear shoulder removed delivered this week. A very simple mod that looks promising. I can email a pic of the actual firing pin mod it you want tomorrow. Ed BTW: I have my OEM main spring fully engaged.

Would be helpful to see some Colt or Ruger "revolver" rimfire hits for comparison.

10-4 ...but the 617 appears to own the title ...I suspect an off center firing pin could help? ie a little off the top...or angled as in the other drawing on that forum link.

OK here is a pic of my firing strike on an ELEY case...BTW had to cycle it twice to get ignition. According to the Eley drawing my hits are on the rim and not inside it where they should be. The extra metal thickness at the outer rim prevents the firing pin from properly collapsing the primer cup.

Warren Guess my post was confusing, was addressing the 617 history of misfires. In the drawing above my 617 "firing pin hits" are locate toward the outer rim area. My 617 hits resemble the far left. They should be more inside the perimeter as in the drawing on the right..better primer crush. Would be interesting to see how the Colt rimfire revolvers strike the rim since I hear the Colt doesn't have the history of misfires.

This discussion talks about firing pin shapes and points of contact on the rim of the 22 cartridge. My 617 firing pin strikes are more towards the outside perimeter, not ideal as per the following link. I know it's a rifle forum but I find the discussion potentially relevant to the 617 misfire condition. Might need to cut/paste..can't get the link inserted. Easy fix...shim it up!

Tight and uniform .005, brand new 686 Plus 7" revolvers and (2) K frames with Clark 6" barrels also with a tight .005. Used (2) L frames and (2) K frames...same results.

Ironic is that the 38 special has the largest discrepancies of the noted pistol loads. Maybe the CFE Pistol doesn't like the cylinder gap....wish I had a closed barrel in 38spl.

This 2014 article notes the discrepancies between published and actual velocities. Thanks...I also started with W231 (and max'd) but to get the 120K PF switched to CFE Pistol....they are hot but very accurate.

I used my old CHRONY intially and had doubts about accuracy so I bought a new Competitions Electronics chronograph same results. I also bought a digital scale to to verify my beam scale and powder drops.

Apparently it's common to have FPS etc lower than published data from most powder manufactures. They use test barrel etc...great info if using test barrels out on the range Sure would be nice to have a source that list actual results using revolvers. Was hoping someone could share results from their CFE Pistol loads in 38 spl cases. BTW: Similar results are experienced with W231...in a nutshell the manufacturer data sources are supposed to be a starting point but really aren't that helpful. I'm sure liability plays a part.

My question was for 38 special loads in 357 revolvers.

Getting ready for the action pistol season and was wondering if anyone else out there is loading CFE Pistol in 38 special case with Federal brass and primers. My cast plain base HP bullet actually weighs 127.5 gr. sized at .358 In my S&W (357) revolvers (6" and 7") I'm right at max 6.2 grains of CFE Pistol to get 980 fps (980X127.5=124,950 PF) shoots great but a max load according to Hodgdon. Was hoping to load in the 5+ grain range...anyone else experiencing the need for 6.2 gr of CFE Pistol to obtain PF velocity?
