I am returning to handgun competition after a few years off. When I was shooting the Tasco Pro points with 30mm tubes were the norm. I did however pick up a Tasco Optima 2000 before Tasco went out of business. I like the scope because is is small, light, had good battery life etc.
The problem is went to a match yesterday and it was "very sunny". Had a real hard time distinguishing the red dot. Even installed (2) Energizer 2016 batteries to double the voltage. I don't remember having a problem years ago seeing the red dot. BUT since then I have had surgery in in my shooting eye for a torn retina and recently had cataracts removed. Good news is that I no longer need corrective lenses and can wear clear eye protection.
Might appear that I need to locate a brighter speed scope but can't locate another along the lines of the Nikko Sterling XT etc. I prefer something with at least a 7.5 MOA dot that will be mounted on a SW 627 N frame revolver. Would be great to use the scope mount on the revolver now because it positions the scope very low on the top strap.
Looking for information on other "compact speed scopes" in the .5 oz area, and a source that sells them. Will consider various reticle shapes and colors.
Would using Energizer vs Duracell batteries make any difference?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
