  1. Duane, I really hope the 02 spring assembly fixes the problems I have been having. I received mine from Glock a few days ago, but I haven't tested it out yet. Probably going to try and run a couple hundred rounds through it tomorrow. I'm getting the Jager guide rod just for peace of mind since I have seen several reports from people who have the 02 assembly, but they are still having issues. That seems to be the biggest issue with the new dual spring assembly, inconsistency. I have seen many reports from people who have the original assembly, but they have had no issues at all. Then there are people like myself, and others that have had problems. Many have also reported that the 02 assembly fixed any problems they were having, but still others have reported that it didn't. Very inconsistent. Now we have a report of the spring assembly spontaneously disassembling itself. Not very confidence inspiring.
  2. I'm going to have to agree with ck1. I am giving my Gen4 G17 one more chance by trying out the Jager guide rod. From all accounts I have read, the Jager guide rod has fixed all the problems people have had with the stock assembly, so I hope it will be the same for mine. I was very close to just giving up and getting rid of my Gen4 and getting a Gen3, but the availability of the Gen4 recoil rod from Jager has convinced me to try it out. Other than the recoil spring, and the crappy factory sights, I love this gun. The grip texture, the slightly smaller grip(without any added backstraps) feels great, and the new magazine release are big improvements over the Gen3 IMO, but they should have stopped there. Instead they introduce that funky dual spring design that was an answer to a non-existant problem, at least with the 9mm Glocks.
  3. Thanks ck1, that is helpful. I think I've narrowed it down to either the Ameriglo "Hackathorn" sights or the Ameriglo "Defoor" sights, or possibly the Defoor rear with a tritium front. After seeing the plain black sights, they do seem to provide a nice sharp uncluttered sight picture, and possibly more precise. But are they easy to pick up at speed? What about low light use? I can see how the plain black sights should work well on a well lit outdoor range, but what about indoor range use, and low light self defense use? Ck1, I noticed you have both set ups. Which one do you prefer and why?
  4. OK, now I'm not so sure what I want. I've been doing some more reading and looking around at different sights. I like the looks of many of them, but I can't afford to try them all. I've looked at plain black sights, tritium night sights, plain rear with tritium front, plain rear with fiber optic front, wide notch/narrow front, etc. etc. There are just too many options/variables, it is really overwheming. All I really know for sure is I HATE the factory junk that Glock calls sights. I know for sure I want a plain black rear sight. I find any markings on the rear sight a distraction. I've blacked out the white outline on the factory sights for this reason. The front sight is where I can't make up my mind, as well as the rear sight notch width. Can someone help explain the differences to me? Pictures would be most helpful and appreciated as well. Thanks again for all your help.
  5. OK, thank you. Another question. Which of the 2 available aftermarket Gen4 guide rods is better, the Jager or the Glockmeister? I'm just wondering because I actually like the looks of the Glockmeister unit better, it has a cleaner appearance with no screw on the muzzle end. The screw on the muzzle end of the Jager guide rod concerns me. I'm just afraid of that little screw coming loose and getting lost. Forgive me, but this is all new to me.
  6. So does the "02" spring improve reliability as well, especially with low powered target ammo? I also have a Gen4 G17, but my problems aren't as bad as you were having. I have on average about 1 FTE/stovepipe out of every 100 rounds of low powered target ammo like WWB and Federal Champion. When using full powered, NATO spec, or +P ammo, I have only had 1 FTE/stovepipe out of about 500 rounds. Although 1 out of 100 with target ammo isn't bad, it is still annoying, especially if it happens during a match. Since I am not yet set up to reload(currently saving up my pennies for a Dillon), it would be nice to be able to shoot the lower powered inexpensive target ammo without having to worry about a malfunction. When I do start reloading, it would be nice to be able to run minor, about 130PF ,loads without issues as well. Because of this experience I also called Glock for the new recoil spring assembly. I just received and installed it today. It does feel a little easier to retract the slide with the new spring, but honestly, it doesn't feel that much lighter. I am hoping to run at least a couple hundred rounds of target ammo through it this weekend to test it out. Now I am wondering if I should just go ahead and order an aftermarket guide rod and spring also. If I do, which spring weight, 13# or 15#? Is it even legal for Production Division? Thanks for your help, and sorry for the slight hijack.
  7. Those look awesome! That is exactly what I need.
  8. I have recently started shooting USPSA/IPSC matches with my G17. I've been using the crappy factory sights. This pistol is also a carry/home defense gun. So, I am looking for a set of sights that will work well for both uses. Prefer to keep the cost under $100. I'm thinking a plain black rear with tritium up front would be good. I prefer the front sight to have some contrast so it stands out better. Thank you.
  9. The match went great. I had a great time, met some great people, and learned a lot. I can't wait for the next match next month. I'm hooked now. As far as my equipment, everything worked just fine, but I do want to upgrade some as I can. I did pick up a 4th magazine for my pistol before the match. I was glad I did because there was one stage that required a minimum of 32 rounds to complete. Shooting Production Division, I wouldn't have had enough ammo to complete the stage if I didn't have that 4th mag. Thanks! ETA: I placed 3rd out of 12 shooters in Production Division, and 13th overall out of 47 shooters. I'd say that isn't too bad for my first match.
  10. OK, I should have no problem getting at least one more mag before the match. Yes, the Serpa holster has a retention device which is the "button" on the side of the holster that you have to push in for it to release the pistol. I have been practicing with it and it doesn't seem to slow me down too much, but I am thinking I'd like to try some different holsters. No he does not. I asked him about a holster months ago before I knew I was going to compete.
  11. Hello everyone. I am getting ready to shoot my first IPSC/USPSA match at a local club on August 14th. I have wanted to try out this sport for years, but I always told myself I needed more practice before I could do it, and that I would do it "someday". Well, I finally decided to quit making excuses and just do it already! Anyway, I will be using things I already have and upgrading as I can afford it. I'd appreciate it if you all could critique my equipment, and let me know if it will be adequate for starting out. I'm also looking for suggestions for things I need. I will be shooting in Production Division with a Glock 17 Gen4 (I know I want to replace the factory sights ASAP). Right now I only have the 3 mags it came with. I know that I will get some more, but I was told that 3 will work to get started. The holster I have is a Blackhawk Serpa, which I bought on the recommendation of a Police Officer friend. I also have a matching Blackhawk double mag carrier, and its all carried on an Instructor's belt(also recommended by my Police friend). Thanks!
