Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Seems like this is a common issue. The TRS in my first SP01 Accushadow after switching platforms from Glock broke after approx. 1k trigger pulls - 350 live fire, 700 dry fire DA pulls. I was looking forward to my first evening match at a local LGS followed by club matches on Sat and Sun. Decided to dry fire a few minutes before i left for my 1st match when the TRS broke. What a disappointment! I felt sick and pissed off. At first, i had no idea what happened since i wasnt familiar with the internals of a DA/DS pistol and had shot 20k+ rounds through my G34 without a single issue. Made me question the purchase. Did some investigating and realized this is the nature of the beast. I will say that CZC promptly sent an upgraded TRS – just received it today and I’m looking forward to hitting the range through the long Thanksgiving holiday.
  2. 1st born: SP01 Accushadow. I've been entertaining the thought of switching platforms from Glock to CZ for a few years now, actually almost right after I purchased my 1st Glocks for IDPA and USPSA. Even brought several friends into the sport and recommending CZ with the 'if had had to do it all over again' speech who started with competition with CZ. I was fairly surprised how the transition from the striker fire Glock to the CZ's DA/SA trigger wasn't as much of an issue as I thought it might be. The truly funny and ironic perception was that only after 350 rounds through my Shadow, zto gain some perspective, I shot 1 mag through my Glock G34 with a relatively smooth 3.1 lb. trigger pull that the Glock felt sooo foreign and sooo inadequate! The first time I touched the Glock trigger with a quick draw, I actually thought something was wrong, stopped and verifying the gun was in working order. Of course, what immediately followed was an uncontrolled belly laugh. 1 mag was all I could manage with my trusted friend. Time to put him out to pasture. This alleviated any doubts that the CZ was the right and only choice for me...CONFIRMED edit: cant post pic but i'm sure you guys have seen this piece of art before
  3. Is there any camping? I just got laid off from work and am already pot committed with the entry fee and deposit for the Phil Strader class.
  4. HAYNES GMC Yukon XL repair manual....even though its a love/hate read, i always find myself trying to comprehend its complexities, inevitable plot twists, and resulting vise like tension headahes it creates with the turn of each page. 2001: A Space Odyssey, Arthur C. Clarke Into Thin Air, John Krakauer Into The Wild, John Krakauer The Lost Explorer, Conrad Anker Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenence, Robert Pirsig Desert Solitaire, Edward Abbey Genius, James Gleick Easter Island, Thor Heyerdahl Youth In Revolt, C.D. Payne most Robert Ludlum novels
  5. Shot my first big match last Oct with a dedicated chrono stage that everyone went through. I didn't know what to expect and assumed someone would be by at some point and randomly pull rounds from your belt. I was very surprised that they used -verbatim- 'the honor system' and had you place 8 rounds that you chose in a ziplock bag before a shot was fired at everyones respective 1st stage of the day. As you reached the chrono stage, your bag was pulled and 3 rounds generated the average PF. Seemed like this approach defeats the purpose if the competitor gives you the ammo they choose. The chrono stage was quickest of the day although i would say it was the most intimidating for a few who didn't know how it would turn out.
  6. My results for G17 MG124JHP / WIN brass @1.135 OAL w/ 4.2gr TG was 133.5 PF: CCI and FED SPP. I've played around with the OAL from 1.115 = 134.7 PF to 1.155 = 130.9 PF. I just switched to a G34 and stepped down to 4.0gr TG @1.135 OAL and came up w/ PF (ooops - can't find the load data for the G34 - i think it is right around 133) .02 - your results may vary edit: + data
  7. I was not fortunate enough to be introduced to firearms until the ripe age of 43. Other than shooting what probably amounted to a box of 22's and few 410 shells around '85 i had never shot a gun prior or since. Then it happened....I saw a 3gun youtube video that changed my life! Doesn't matter what vid it was...what matters is it happened. I purchased a pistol without knowing anyone who had one or anyone who had even heard of IDPA or USPSA with the vague goals of shooting USPSA to the best of my ability, with steady progression of skill sets and to meet new people, form new friendships, and just have a damn good time. So far, i feel like i am right on track--especially the DAMN GOOD TIME part. -purchased first handgun in late april -shot my first idpa and uspsa match in july -purchased the 550b and started reloading -broke the 1.0sec mark for A zone hits from draw @ 30' I received my B Prod card in November & after 12 classifiers, I'm bracketed with 7 B's, 1 C and 4 D's. currently at 66% Entered my first big match - GATOR CLASSIC in October and finished 2nd C, Production 2 day class w/ Max Michel and Blake Miguez (fantastic by itself) WOW - I'm really looking forward to 2011 Here's to everyone who met their goals in 2010 and will push even further in 2011 take care and take aim joe edit:sp
  8. Jerry, I have 3 '50' size helicopters: 2-TREX600, RAPTOR50 which measure about 46 " in length and a blade span of 30". They are not cheap as I have about $1500 in the Raptor and 2-2500 in the Trex600s. They are not he easiest thing to learn but if you take it slow most will progress rather quickly. They will carry a camera with a rigged mount. Couple things to note: By all means by a computer rc heli computer simulator. They cost $150-250, (i think there may be a few free ones but dont know the quality)....i assure you, it will be your BEST INVESTMENT for getting into rc helis. I can't emphasize that enough. You'll will save the frustration of countless crashes and the cost of repairs many times over. IT WILL PAY FOR ITSELF within the first 1-2 crashes. The simulators are VERY REALISTIC and will either have a control, similar to the transmitter you'll use, or will come as software only and you use your own transmitter. Either application is ok as the purpose is to train your reactions to account for control inputs. Planes are easier to fly. One thing i didn't see mentioned is scale. You said your application would cover about 20 acres. This seems like a large area for the both a plane and heli to cover without losing orientation, especilly in a heli. Imagine a heli profile with the dimensions I gave initially at 25, 50, 100+ yards and you will soon have difficulty telling the heli orientation. In this example, bigger is always better but, unfortunately comes with a much higher price tag. My suggestion would be to google seach for an RC club in your area and see first hand the heli / plane sizes and see how quickly they become all but a spec in the sky the further you fly. good luck
  9. hahaha...sorry, i guess i neglected probably the most important factor. i was at 26-27', shooting at the 7yd target but was back 5-6 feet from the line shooting over a table so my mags (timed mag changes) didn't hit the concrete floor. at that distance, it was still a milestone for me.
  10. i think i will need to hit a larger milestone to afford a new keyboard...its my laptop that has the hangover. huh...never noticed the 'accomplishments' forum
  11. I'm shooitng a g17 in production. Given my competitive spirit, the timer has proved to be a necessary evil. Seems like my timer is possessed, mocking me every step of the way. By pUshing myself using the timer, I've been able to break down the weak points in my form and At this point, rarely find myself at the range without the timer....I guess i should clarify....I rarely find myself at the range without USING the time. edit: sp
  12. PREFACE- SORRY FOR The caps/no caps/caps/ no....ever since i spilled an corona on my keyboard, tHE CAPS LOCK HAS A MIND OF ITs own... I startED SHOOTing in april and picked up uspsa in July and can say i'm definatELY HOOKED. AftER MANY MATches and dryfire, I finally HIT A MILEStONE FOR CONSISTent DRAW/A ZONE HITs. while at The range yestERDAY, I Timed my draw from botH HANDS AT side and surrender positIONS. I WAS PLEASED AT tHE USUAL 1.2-1.35 DRAW WITh a hitS. AT some point, I GOT in the zone, AND STartED To pick up tHE SPEED WIThout SACRIFICING ACCURACY. I STartED To keep tRACK AND REALIZED I WAS HITTing 8-10 a-zone shotS ALL UNDER 1.2. MOSTly betWEEN 1.05-1.14. AND Then it HAPPENED...AN A-ZONE HIT @ .99sec followed up by a 1.00. now i know tHIS ISN'T HUGE FOR MOST, but remember itS ALL RELATive and i know i came away witH SMILE, A POCKET full OF DREAMS AND The satISFACTion tHAT all tHE WORK (IF YOU CAN CALL IT tHAT) IS STarting tO PAY OFF.
  13. Not at a gun shop but at the range a few weeks ago: 2 guys pull up with their lady friends to show off their mad handgun / tacticool skills. 1st guy places a target at 7 yards and proceeds to dump a whole 'clip' as he called it towards center mass of his Osama B target. The majority of hits were all over the place and if you had a super computer to calculate his center average, they were WAY right.. He tried to save face by saying he needed to compensate for the breeze that was "swirling" around at 5-15 mph. The funny thing is, I think he truly believed the breeze was the sole reason keeping him from his triumphant display of manhood. The ladies seemed impressed with his diagnostic assessment for inaccuracy.
  14. Unfortunatley, I didn't see the defect right away and set it too the side and only afterwards realized I had placed it in a box of other duds.
  15. REgarding your sizing die issue. What I have always done is use an empty case to maintain tension as I lock a die in position.

Thus, I would screw the sizing die down until it just touched the shellplate and then turn it up about the thickness of a business card, put an unsized case in the shellplate and run it up the die. This pushed the die threads up into the casehead/bushing. Now lock ...
