If the stage is multi-string and someone has a malfunction after the beep on a string you can't DNF them for the stage.

Technically, USPSA rules are NOT prohibiting you from doing so.

BTW, I haven't heard from DNROI that entering a 0.01 is being an issue in the PractiScore app(s). Hence nothing is being done about it.

surprised that a reshoot would be issued for this.  couldn't they just fix the score/time to what it should be?

Interesting question. I think it is pretty much covered by 9.7.4:

9.7.4 When a score has been affirmed by both the competitor and Range Officer, the score (whether on paper or electronic device) is considered conclusive evidence that the time, scores and penalties as recorded are accurate and uncontested.  The score (whether on paper or electronic device) is deemed to be definitive.  It may only be changed to add penalties under Rule 8.6.2, or to correct arithmetical errors, or by mutual consent of the competitor and the originating Range Officer, or due to an arbitration decision. Changes are defined as modifications to the score sheet after both parties have signed off on the score sheet.

I don't really see reasons for reshoot after competitor accepted the score, or even if he refused to accept it and matter referred to RM as per 9.7.3.

PS: I've heard that DNROI been instructing ROs to enter 0.01 in some of DNF-related cases

"You need to refresh your memory. the tablet has a special button for DNF-ing a stage."

Looked it up on Practiscore.  Time entered was .01 with 28 miss and 13 Procedurals.

    Now I have PTSD.

If someone scored it like that it doesn't make it right.

I don't. But in some circumstances other things could be ruled as coaching and/or interference.

    There is also this:

8.6.1 No assistance of any kind can be given to a competitor during a course of fire, except that any Range Officer assigned to a stage may issue safety warnings to a competitor at any time. Such warnings will not be grounds for the competitor to be awarded a reshoot.

I'm going off memory here....I think the tablet wouldn't accept a "0.00".  I think a time was entered (maybe 1.0 seconds) and then scored.  I'm not sure.  Either way I fell on the sword and bled out!  Side note....The firing pin lasted about 40k rounds.

You need to refresh your memory. the tablet has a special button for DNF-ing a stage.

PS: DNF-ing a string is a separate story and it has its own can of worms

i hope you don’t think that rule prohibits the RO from uttering anything other than a range command. in plain english it clearly does NOT say that.

Can't say what they are teaching ROs at their USPSA seminar. But the IPSC IROA seminar pretty much says those are the ONLY commands you can use at the range.

Basically in this case the RO can give command "If You Are Finished, Unload and Show Clear" at any time and that won't be an interference.

  7. On 6/1/2022 at 8:36 PM, Sarge said:

Because the rules say those are authorized? But if you are clearing a jamb and the RO says come on man lets move along, that's interference

8.6.4 In the event that inadvertent contact from the Range Officer or another external influence has interfered with the competitor during a course of fire, the Range Officer may offer the competitor a reshoot of the course of fire.

It doesn't mean that RO has to offer that reshoot.

My mistake, it was WinMSS that IPSC uses for their sanctioned matches.

You are a few years behind on that one too.

Not to mention that the IPSC rulebook allows RD to approve any scoring software for L1, L2 and L3 sanctioned matches. Hence PractiScore is a no brainer in quite a few regions.

  11. 7 hours ago, BritinUSA said:

IPSC runs 15 in Production and Production Optics, too early to tell on the Optics division unless IPSC starts putting out some match data. But their Production division was one of the most popular, I don't think its a magazine capacity issue at all.

But IPSC stages are generally lower round count.

You realize that in many countries it is much harder to get a non-Production gun, let alone a heavily customized one like Open, Standard/Limited or even Single Stack/Classic one? Out there Production is just out of the shelf or even a rented gun.

The data is there, but you will have to do the leg work to get it in one place.

  12. 10 minutes ago, MikeBurgess said:

as it is its pretty easy to see that CO is growing while, Limited, Production, Single Stack, L10, and Revolver are shrinking...

The more interesting questions. Are divisions are growing from competitors who switched divisions (and from which ones?) or because of the new blood? Are divisions shrinking because competitors stopped shooting or because they switched divisions?

Revolver, Classic and PCC drops probably could be attributed to non-division switching factors.

  13. 16 hours ago, MikeBurgess said:

I say leave CO as is for a while, the way things are going it it will be THE division shortly. A friend is doing some data mining in practiscore looking at thousands of actual matches shot. Any changes should be CO (as is seems to be working) Open, PCC, then the way things are headed we can just have an Iron sight division because they are all shrinking away fast.

If he is doing data mining he should look at the number of people moved between divisions and not just at the total number in individual divisions.

There are other factors in play than uspsa division dilution. E.g. ammo cost and shortages. CO is like Open but much cheaper to get in and to shoot competitive.

I’d love to see the same kind of graph for IPSC, I think they generally use EZWinscore or something like that rather than Practiscore, so I’m not sure if the data is available online.

The ezwinscore was an USPSA thing that they put to rest in favour of PractiScore.

There is some IPSC-specific data in PractiScore online services, but generally IPSC don't have such centralized store of the match results anywhere. It is spread across 5..10 proprietary services and some of them not even using structured data storages (e.g. posting PDF documents instead). Your best bet is to fish for L4..L5 match results for the past years and derive conclusions from there. But then there are significant region-specific deviations.

Hi, was at a match and a guy had a new timer with bluetooth that linked to his phone.

    Yeah yeah, several do that...but...

This one linked to the camera app and pushed the shot times into the video of him shooting. The timer had extra buttons to allow that.

    Regarding the "...but..." part.

The PractiScore Log app is a one time paid app that works with basically all Bluetooth timers currently available.

The video recording feature been supported for all of timers for a while.

You can find more info about the PractiScore Log app at:

PS: did your guy mentioned that that vendor app requires a monthly subscription?... :)

Our other timer pushes it automatically for steel challenge matches. I agree with you somewhat, but I quite like it for steel challenge, but you're right, not needed.

With "other timer" you can control if timer pushes data or not from the timer menus. However that is not the case with CE ProTimer.

I'm also considering disabling automatic pushes even for the "other timer" cause in the past that did cause some grief and really it should be an action done by the RO, so they are really paying attention...
