    Wow!!!

Mine isn't that bad.  It's discolored and bulged at the bottom, but yours looks like it's very angry...

Came from someone that had Titegroup in it.  IIRC, he bumped it and spilled a pound of powder all over the bench.

The Hornady plastic is trash. I'm told they have changed it in the last year but the plastic they changed to is very brittle. Lots of stories of hoppers showing up with cracks in them.

I have a Hornady lock n lod and I USED to keep powder in it all the time, but eventually the plastic tube discolored and then started bulging.

Whatever the plastic is made of doesn't react too well to Titegroup (or Winchester 231) over extended periods.

I flipped the tube to solve the problem and I no longer leave it full for extended periods of time.

I could snap a picture if anyone is interested.

    Does it look like this:

  4. I didn't read the whole thread but here are my thoughts on shotguns for shooting at clay targets

12 ga  - there is no reason to shoot anything else. ammo is cheaper, more bb's, less recoil, better patterns

Over / Under - It's all about balance and swing smoothness. The O/U excels in this area. There isn't a single top competitor that shoots an  autoloader.

Try ( or at least shoulder ) as many as you can.  They all feel different in your hand and unless you are going to the expense of a custom stock, find the one that you like. It's not like a pistol where you can just change out the grips for a couple of bucks. Make sure your finger reaches the trigger correctly.

Get it fit - The way you interface with the gun is so important. Remember, your eye is the rear sight so you have to put it in the same place every time you mount the gun. A gun that fits will enable you to do that. Also, a gun that sits makes recoil a non-existent thing.

Finally, you get what you pay for.  A low cost gun will usually wear out faster. It isn't like hunting where you shoot a couple of boxes a year, clean it and put it away.

  5. < Full disclosure  - I am Dram Worx >

Win231 isn't an aggressive powder like Superhandicap or Titegroup. Those powders will clump and destroy the plastic in most measures. That's the reason I made a Pyrex hopper in the first place. The plastic on the Horandy is the worst. Dillon has changed their plastic to stand up to Bullseye & Titegroup but will still yellow over time.

As for the Pyrex, yes it's more than plastic but it will never discolor or hold static like plastic does.

  6. Of all the primers, I've had the best luck with Winchesters.  And by luck I mean always going bang & feeding through the press.

I've used the Tula before. No complaints, especially on the price .

  7. To the best of my knowledge, STI has not made that gun in stainless steel. Perhaps it is hardcrome?

There was a used one on Bud's for $1850 IIRC not that long ago and it sold so I'd say $2000 would be a fair price for a hardchromed gun.

  8. Off of Facebook:

Statement from R. Lee Ermey's long time manager, Bill Rogin:

It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey ("The Gunny") passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us. It is a terrible loss that nobody was prepared for. He has meant so much to so many people. And, it is extremely difficult to truly quantify all of the great things this man has selflessly done for, and on behalf of, our many men andwomen in uniform. He has also contributed many iconic and indelible characters on film that will live on forever. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman of Full Metal Jacket fame was a hard and principled man. The real R. Lee Ermey was a family man, and a kind and gentle soul. He was generous to everyone around him. And, he especially cared deeply for others in need.

There is a quote made famous in Full Metal Jacket. It's actually the Riflemen's Creed. "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

There are many Gunny's, but this one was OURS. And, we will honor his memory with hope and kindness. Please support your men and women in uniform. That's what he wanted most of all.

    Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed.
