  1. I use 012's and love them. Seems like it would be very difficult to drop a gun unless you adjusted the draw tension super light. (I hope I didn't just jinx myself at the Area 8 Championship this weekend  )

I owned a CR Speed WSM and hated it because the gun didn't dislodge from the holster in a natural fashion, tough to explain but it felt too mechanical too me. The 012 just feels smooth. I did like how you can adjust the CR such that the gun doesn't wobble at all in the holster, very cool, and the lock is nice, but I'd prefer my old Bianchi Hemisphere over the CR. The Hemisphere was smooth.

I have never tried the Ghost so I cannot comment.

Get a decent holster and use it for a year, develop your style, determine what you like in a holster, then experiment with another holster and develop your own opinions based on your shooting style.

  2. I used to shoot a lot of NRA Highpower rifle when I lived in Colorado (sure do miss living there) and when we went to the Nationals in Camp Perry Ohio, so this is 5,000+ elevation to pretty much sea level, our ammo would hit low on the target at 600 yards. After a year or two of this I caught on <_< and figured our exactly how much the difference was; I don't recall off the top of my head, but it was substantial.

I never was given a good reason for this, but we surmised that the thicker atmosphere at sea level caused more bullet resistance and therefore a more rapid rate of deceleration of the bullet. Whether this would would be seen with a handgun when chrono'ing at a few feet in front of the muzzle I don't know....

  3. Looks like you spent a lot of time customizing it for yourself, too bad it didn't work out for you. :(

And dang, that magwell is nice! I like the beavertail too.

Those P9's sure do feel good to me, about the only gun that feels better than my Caspian hi-cap. <_<

  4. I think I'm in the minority because I have EGW hollowed out stainless steel guide rods in my three primary 1911's, those guns not being a Limited gun: Caspian open gun, SS 40 I use for Lim-10 and a SS Super I hope to use for IDPA.

I fell in love with light guns after shooting a Glock for a few monthes, I could move that thing so stinkin' fast, and recoil doesn't bug me at all. Spoke with George and Jim at EGW about the need for a lighter gun and they turned me on to the hollow guide rod.

  5. I shoot a Caspian with grip tape and I feel that the S_I grips modified by that guy in NY (can't remember his name) feel just as small as my Caspian. That being said the S_I grip feels more perpendicular to the slide than the Caspian to me, the Caspian feels more ergonomic.

  6. Any advice on how to go about trusting, and therefore "not trying" as Brian would say

Bill - I don't know that I qualify to give you any advice, especially after the butt-whooping you dished out on me last weekend :D

I usually try to completely forget about the time it takes to run a stage, instead focusing only on getting/calling good hits. If I planned the proper (fast) way to shoot through a stage, all I can do once the buzzer goes off is call good shots - the rest will take care of itself. Things like footspeed, getting into and out of a box etc...are things I can work on at home in the backyard, but on match day, you just have to let it happen. The trusting aspect comes from knowing that you put in the hard work dryfiring at home and practicing at the range. You put in all the practice time so you could let it happen on match day.

BTW - when we shot a couple weeks ago at Fredericksburg - you were way fast on plenty of stages.

    Zach

    Zach,

Thanks for the kind words! On days when I feel unusually confident and calm, and am only concerned with seeing the dot for every shot I end up trusting and thus performing well, but I'm always fishing for others take on how they get that amazing run.

  7. Thin grips make the gun feel very square to me, and thick grips make it hard to get to the mag release button.

I have used, and like, Burners grips, but would prefer them to be every so slightly thinner. Bottom line is that I like the standard grip panel thickness.

  8. Does anyone know who will cut and weld two mags together reasonably, Beven Grams will do it for $100. I think thats a little hi.

Otto from Otto Comp is willing to do it, but I do not know how much he charges. Give him a call: 314.638.3327
