Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Wow. Great ideas and pictures. Scott - that gun is nice. 36oz is 9oz less than the listed weight of a Steel Master. The picture of the rear of the slide is out of this world. I think I do want a magwell just to help getting a good grip on the draw. Dawson makes some light aluminum ones that won't add much weight and it looks like their aluminum FLGRs are on sale right now! So it looks like a sub 40oz pistol would be ideal.
  2. Thanks for the pointers. Bedell has some photos of an open gun with a slide mounted Deltapoint. Great looking gun. Maybe a Springfield 9mm RO + STI Trubor barrel + Dawson magwell + Dawson FLGR + slide mounted sight ...
  3. I was thinking about getting a 9mm 1911 open pistol built exclusively for steel challenge. I don't prefer the wider grip of the 2011. Does anyone still build single stack open guns? Any advice on how best to proceed is appreciated. Thanks, Victor
  4. I've got half dozen of the Dawson 140mm extensions and they are real nice. Also have a couple of Arrendondo ones that I don't care for the way they snap together. Finally, I have a couple of the Taylor Freelance 170mm extensions, they are also very, very nice. I imagine their 140mm ones are just as nice. All of them came with replacement extra power springs and have worked 100% of the time.
  5. That's cool. I've been carrying a J-frame Smith for the past 28 years (in my right front pocket ... yes, i'm lazy). The current situation has me thinking that I should carry a little more firepower.
  6. What I thought was interesting about the CO rules is that the gun just has to weigh under 45 ounces. I would imagine folks are adding weight to their Glocks they run in CO. Beyond weighted 140mm mag extensions and a ground down Seattle slug, how can I add weight to this G17 MOS? Just trying to be creative.
  7. Howdy. I have a G17 MOS on the way and I'm looking to do a CO build. Any suggestions as to what components to use or how to set it up would be appreciated! This is my first Gen 4 Glock ... so I'd be interested if there are any gotchas with the Gen 4s that are unique to that platform versus the Gen 3s. The only known piece of the build is that I'm using a Burris Fastfire III as I have one laying around. Thanks, Victor
  8. How was the quality on the lonewolf glock 24 side? Does it run 100%? I have a police trade-in Glock 22 here gathering dust ...
  9. I bought one of DK's custom trigger kits and all I can say is WOW!!! It sets off Winchester, Federal and Remington primers and feels absolutely great. It dropped right into a police trade-in 22 that I built into a budget open gun. I'm going to get another one to put in my 34. Regards, Victor
  10. An interesting experiment would be to close up the ports on a 22 comp (duct tape? ) to see how much is the porting -vs- just the added weight hanging off the barrel.
  11. Do comps really do anything when running super light steel challenge loads? If I'm running 115 grain bullets over 4 grains of 231 will the comp help? (besides hanging some weight at the end of my barrel). Just curious and interested in others opinions. Thanks, Victor
  12. Hi Atlas, Thank you for the response. I always enjoy your posts and photos, they are very educational I had the crazy idea of buying a SP-01 in 9 and a 75B SA in 40 and then swapping slides ... would give me a great L-10 blaster (in a config you can't buy from the factory) and the basis for an open gun. But I don't know what other parts would have to be changed to make it all work. Do you have any concerns on the 75B SA running a steady diet of major ammo? Thanks, Victor
  13. Howdy. I have the urge to build a small frame CZ open gun. Been looking hard at either the standard SP-01 (#91152) or 75B SA (#91150) as the base gun. Which would you use and why? Thanks, Victor

    Glock Magwell

No weight limit ... just no optics or comps ...
