  1. Heinrik,

It's okay for the 69's. I did a ton of testing years ago as H335 (and it's twin W748) are great in the lighter bullets. I was getting .5" groups out of my 1:8 18" with H335 and Winchester FMJ-BT's. When I tried them on the 69's they would group okay and that's the best way I can describe it. The best groups came from 69's and Varget.

However, given that you're obviously asking about alternative powders due to the scarcity of others, H335 isn't a bad option. I can say though that after the load work up with Varget, I'd be down on the confidence side if I used anything but it and/or it's cousins (VV N140, RL15 or TAC) at a match that mattered to me.

  2. Hi,

So, the wife and I have been talking about a lot of things lately and one of them is a potential move to Utah, specifically Salt Lake City. Now...before Bobby & Susan chime in, our preference is the south, but we have to be realistic and have contingency plans and the "easiest" school for me to get in to (so it seems) is the University of Utah in Salt Lake.

Stef's perused Rent.com for apartment rates, etc. but want to hear from the locals on where are good places to live and places to avoid in/around SLC. Big things for us are access to basic restaurants, grocery stores, etc. We don't have to live in town (Stef and I prefer the 'burbs) and if it's within say 15-20 minutes of the U that'd be great. She's a registered dental assistant, so we imagine like in most cities there are a couple of areas that are dental "hubs" where dental/dental specialty clinics tend to conglomerate together. Again, about 10-20 minutes from there would be great as well.

Thanks for all the info and we'll probably be asking about Albuquerque here soon and the University of New Mexico.

  3. Let me check the first page of the thread for the schedule. ;)

ETA: Yep. Watching the Oregon State game. Should be good and the little guy will be back to terrorize our defense. Note though that they did lose last year and we were the conference champions again. So...anything is possible.

  4. I don't watch football, which is a shame since the best team in the country is just up the road in Columbus, Ohio.

Kevin - So out of curiosity, who are you talking about (now before you answer, you might want to look at Saturday's results).

As for the Vols fans...I was cheering for you and can't believe you let the (fill in really bad explative) UCLA Bruins, that I'm pretty sure hate everything about the US (it's what I heard...on the internet), come in to your house and beat you?

  5. Use a real mainspring and it'll light off anything. Light mainspring's are a poor man's fix for the "ultimate" trigger job.

I've used SR and SP primers between 40's, 38's and 9's for years and have ZERO issues...especially on my Viper's that have 1-3/4# trigger jobs.

Larry's got the most complete concern in that depending on the brand of primer, there could be some gas leaking around the primer which will quickly torch your breech face (ask me how I know).

Haven't played with the load of Wolf's that I recently got in, but find it weird to have a "special" primer for 223 loads. Oh well...the Wolf SR primers I have are intended for 223 and pistol loads anyways. They'll work in one of them. :D
