  1. im talking about this area: the xdm has more meat in this area, then there was the big takedown lever that you could kind of grab with your thumb while still doing no slide riding there is less area for your support hand/thumb area to press against on the m&p. I feel like i am having to grip more with my right hand instead. i just dont like it. i dont know if i want to try and get used to it the Glock 17 i think allows more grip for your support hand thumb either from the shape of it or...what have you. but then i think the factory mag release on it is going to goof me up. but if there is a mag release that i can put on that is a little bigger i think i am going to get one of these pistols. either the 17 or 22. i am fairly certain of this now. i mean i know that a good shooter can probably get M class with most guns under the sun assuming they are performance tweaked a little bit but i really want to get this out of the way and have something i have absolutely no complaints about its just that i can have something but then theres this thought lingering in the back of my head like i made a mistake or something
  2. ohhh wow im looking at bullet cost and the differences in powder charge and .40 is really not that much more expensive than 9mm. the only expensive thing would be getting my dies and shell holder and junk.
  3. say wut. this is the wrong way to hold this gun? this is the right way? how am i supposed to hold this gun? should i get a G17?
  4. i was starting to cook on the idea of getting into reloading .40 cal instead of 9mm. It is versatile. If you wanted to shoot it in production you could load lighter minor loads. If you wanted to take the same gun or a different gun and shoot in major all you would have to do is increase your powder charge. (and you dont even blow your gun up like with 9mm) .40 makes bigger holes, that are easier for you to see, which is good, especially when you are not good at calling shots yet. I just havent had much opportunity to shoot .40 out of any handguns. So i dont know what it will FEEl like. The price difference doesnt really concern me THAT much. for anyone that loads .40 and shoots both minor and major with it just drop a line and tell me what you think/what guns you shoot it out of ect. i appreciate it.
  5. i know alot of it is simply familiarization and practice but im starting to get really picky on trying to settle on the perfect pistol that i can shoot both in USPSA and IDPA probably a 9mm but possibly a .40 that i could load to minor or major depending on the division. (production vs. limited or L10) So i purchased an M&p Pro 9 a little bit ago and i shot it today, there isnt any really noticable difference between this gun and the xdm in terms of shooting other than i was initially shooting low because of the sights on it are different heights. I'll be shooting with a friend tommorrow and trying out his sig 228 and ill shoot my m&p more tommorrow also. From 250 rounds of shooting or so, doing some group shooting to start and then timed drill type stuff with it to get the best feel for how it would do at matches i didnt have too many complaints about this gun. the only real problem with this gun for me is the fact that there just isnt enough surface area on the frame for me to purchase and grip with my support hand. i feel like i am having to compensate for it by gripping harder with my trigger hand, which is bad. Im also starting to get the impression that with barrel length, the difference between a 4.25 inch barrel, a 4.5 inch barrel, a 5in or a 6in barrel you arent actually getting any huge accuracy increases for when your shooting 35+ yards or your needing to hit a really small target. it seems like its more just a ''better sight radius'' type of thing and really it can vary from person to person whether its more beneficial or not. i was thinking i might almost like a gun that is a little heavier than the m&p. I've only bothered considering purchasing guns that are generally available at my gunstores, xd's, glocks, M&p's, Sig's. i mean i know i could have them order something or i can order something but i really want to at least handle and get a bit of a feel for the gun before i decide to buy it. i dont have anywhere to rent guns around where i live. i mean i havent shot regular XD's much but i have this idea in my head that i want something different simply because ive already shot 15k rounds or so out of my xdm9, i keep going back to glocks and handling them because theres alot of things i like about them like how they grip and point (and there is plenty of meat on the frame for you to purchase with the support hand), apparently they would probably be the easiest gun to get parts, mods for but then i think the magazine release button unmodified is a little bit small and when i watch myself do reloads sometimes it seems like one of the things that slows me down is not hitting the mag release quick enough. i might have problems with te glock mag release. idk. then like i mentioned overall i think the M&p i have with a little bit more trigger improvement and a shorter, narrower FO front sight on it would be a nice gun to use sigs im not completely sure about. on one hand apparently they are the highest quality pistol of the selection and the SA trigger pull out of the box is pretty nice but im not quite up on the hammer fired DA/SA thing, and then they are obviously the most expensive of the selection but im comparing buying a sig for $850 vs. buying another gun for $650 and then buying parts for the $650 gun and it will perform just as good... and then ''performance'' in itself can be person preference. anyways if you have any input for any of this please drop the block like its hot
  6. a few things i noticed when actually shooting this gun 1. there just isnt enough meat on the frame of the pistol for you to purchase with your support hand. this was a big plus with the XDM, it had that big fat takedown lever that you could grip onto with your support thumb. this gun i feel like im having to grip with my stronghand too hard relative to my support hand. 2. i shot this gun low initially because of the aim point i used with my xdm, having the intended POI slightly above the sights. this gun with the height of the front sight you need to pretty much cover your intended POI with the fiber dot of the front sight. 3. I will test a few more times to verify this but i think for some reason or another, velocities out of the barrel of this gun vs. the XDm this gun actually shoots SLOWer. what i had cooked up for the xdm: 124g Rainier leadsafe RN 4.3g Titegroup 1.125 col 1080fps avg. with this gun i am fairly sure the avg. velocity i am getting is 20fps slower or more. which doesnt make sense because the barrel is half an inch longer and it is a brand new gun. these magazines attract dirt and dust
  7. would you guys partially agree that getting real good in singlestack would definitely make things feel easier and improve your skills with production and L10 guns? SS you have less ammo and reloads are generally more difficult. SS is really the hardest division in terms of trying to place high at a match overall? (i mean other than revo )
  8. dude, mag changes definitely feel easier with this gun, i think its the combo of slightly shorter magazines plus the glock-like semi-funneled magwell
  9. in your opinion if you were to use 3 different classifier stages as drills to improve your basic skills which 3 would you chose?
  10. nothing wrong with mag changes. good dexterity practice.
  11. are there lots of .40 cal ss 1911's to chose from? what kind of capacity are you generally getting with those?
  12. huh so i picked this sucker up at the shop today and it ended up being the Pro series instead of the regular one because they didnt have any of the other ones. fine with me i guess. just kind of a waste because i was going to put different sights and trigger on it anyways. i dont know though im kind of thinking these sights are almost fine as is. i WOULD actually kind of prefer the rear sights to be serrated rather than simply flat black like i shot this one match a while ago where all of the steel targets were painted black and its nice to have a little bit of contrast on the rear sights. im not completely sure what im gonna do with the sights quite yet. but i did previously order some of those Apex trigger parts that will probably be around before the weekend and im thinking they will still make some improvement over the outadaBox trigger which i think has alot of takeup on it. nice reset though. compared to my xdm this gun i feel points and grips just a little easier and more naturally its especially noticable when i hold strong hand or - weakhand . the beavertail area of this handgun is slightly more pronounced so it seems the bore will be a tad lower to your hand. the profile is a little bit narrower than the xdm. the magazine release button is placed pretty perfectly. then the slide release lever i cant imagine accidentally resting any of my digits on it and keeping the slide from locking back, which was one beef i had with the xdm (mainly for when shooting IDPA you kind of need it to work all the time, not so much for uspsa). i dont want to have to practice putting my thumbs in a certain location i just want to be able to intuitively grab the pistol and shoot it and have everything working great every time. ill loosen it up on the weekend with some shootin. i think ill like this gun alot and get alot of use out of it.

    im cool

i wasnt meaning to slap anyone in the face by not being there anymore, there were more people than needed to do all of the taping, scoring, breakdown. i didnt really think id be wanted around anyways. i just quietly leave and not be a diva about it. its hard for someone to learn from people that are such a high skill level if the person hasnt even mastered the basics. im sorry.
  14. this is what i like to hear about the new gun i am getting
  15. ok yes i beleive what you are saying about there being very very little noticable difference between said loads
  16. Field

    im cool

ok right there that is definitely worse than my situation that just happened.
  17. Field

    im cool

yeah thats a good idea. stand around for 6 hours taping and resetting targets

    im cool

first stage of an 8 stage section match, its cold and wet, my hands are cold and my fingers dont have all thier dexterity.. i should have worn something warmer.. the buzzer goes off and i draw, squat and shoot through a barrel at some steel targets, i get done knocking the steel over, i stand and begin moving to the next set of targets..ejecting my magazine..my finger goes out of the trigger guard (i watched my fps camera later and saw what i did)im in the process of grabbing my next mag to insert it in the gun (the gun is at chest level)and then my finger goes back onto the trigger and i somehow manage perform a big fat accidental discharge while im on the move. woa dude wtf. then there are about 2 squads worth of people around when i do it, i had the gun pointed downrange and it didnt go over the berm but FFS how stupid am i. Then im not even sure how i managed to do it, its not like im shooting some 1911 with a 2 lb hair trigger i just have an xdm9 with a drop in trigger kit. its like i clenched my pointer finger for some reason and bang. ugh. anyways, just saying that your weekend probably went better than my weekend so you should be happy. i drive for 2-3 hours to go to a match and then i get DQ'd the first stage for an AD and then i am driving back home. bye.
  19. ive tried those wider notched warren rear sights but i actually prefer the squared, narrower notched serrated factory rear sight. its nice to be able to look at your front sight easier but i feel that the narrower notch is more ....precise. i dont think it makes a giant difference with how good you shoot but possibly when you run into shooting tiny steel at long range i think it would be nicer. one thing though about having dots in the back i almost think it helps you more precisely monitor exactly how you are holding and moving the gun because with my blacked out factory rears i dont quite as readily notice little subtlties like maybe i tilt the gun slightly or whatnot. again this is only going to make a difference when shooting at 35-50 yard targets which doesnt come up all that much
  20. oh. i see. right now im formulating my decision whether or not to get an M&p or M&pL in 9mm. this seals the deal i think.
  21. well its just that if im going to watch videos of GOOD people shooting i would like it to be in high visual/audio quality and have consistent 30fps movement and have all of the sound synched up to the picture like how it should. it allows for more enjoyment and better observation
  22. what gun were you shooting when you made this observation? i personally dont notice a HUGE difference with my xdm9 but its there. when the ammo is wimpier like that your sights will jump very little if you are holding the gun ok and i personally feel i can shoot 132pf stuff a little quicker and easier than shooting 136-138 pf stuff
  23. yeah sometimes i just wont line the damn mag up properly with the well, i am inconsistent
  24. 2010 combined rules i see this under authorized modifications: ''Exchange of minor components (springs, safeties, slide stops, guide rods)'' but then i see this under prohibited modifications: ''Any addition or removal of material which changes the factory profile or adds function such as beavertail or thumb rest'' from what i see it seems accepted to file the slide release button because it says that you can put different slide stops in anyways. it is inferring against adding parts that act as thumb rests and the like.
