  1. I was on my way to a 3gn match and got pulled over for an illegal left turn out of a dunkin donuts. Should have realized there would have been a police presence. There was a sign, we didn't even look for it as we were in the midst of a caffeine and sugar rush.

Pretty legitimate stop IMO. I simply joked that I now had a $150.00 cup of coffee. Not cool being pulled over with a car full of some serious hardware and ammo. Glad it was in the boonies, as they were uber cool.

With regards to the OP, perhaps you should propse a new alignent of the roadway to your town/township/borough/city government.

Other than that, pay the ticket in time or your backside will hurt a lot more.

  2. The webpage has been updated with all the clubs and shooters who have submitted results. Please check and see if you are on the list. The results will be posted 6:00 PM EST on Sunday, 1/13/2013.

The reason for the delay is to give shooters time to check the list and respond if there are problems. We don't want anyone to miss out this year.

    Thank you,

  3. I did it sunday at a match. Tough shot from the LH side of cover. I threw the gun into my weak (left) hand and shot them. I wasn't thinking much about it, and could not tell you why I did it, though it would have been a tougher strong hand shot for me to contort that far over given my size and foot position.

After the match was over I reshot the stage and did it a second time. Go figure.

  4. If you are shooting .38's, the Model 15 is somewhat easier to keep clean than the Model 19. This is owing to the extra length in the .357 magnum chamber.

I shoot a 15 and 67 (stainless version) a lot. I also run my 66 as well. (Stainless version mod 19). My 15 is my favorite.

If you shoot enough 130 power factor loads, you will beat up your guns. Seven years ago, I had my Model 15 rebuilt and the barrel set back. It is out of time again and time for a tune up.

The 105 pf of IDPA should not make this a problem. I have some circa 1920's M&P's that may see a match or two this year.

  5. If the SO knows the Course of Fire so he can explain it without woodenly reading the briefing it helps a lot.

Another thing that speeds things up is if the SO handles the ammo management instead of letting the shooter do it. This takes pressure off the shooter, and speeds up time.

Figure out his ammo capacity. Tell him/her when to reload. If the shooter does not have enough mags, help the shooter get the 2 round and 5 round magazine for the el pres stages.

Have a table or barrel sitting at the shooting positions when they are shooting static. Let them put ammo and extra magazines there.

Have a coffee can with you for revolver shooters to dump ammo in. Have them load the gun from the coffee can instead of speedloaders. (unless they have a ton like I do) That saves a lot of time.

Swap the targets out, have them paste the targets behind the line.

A few months ago, I ran 6 guys through the classifier set up on one bay in well under 90 minutes. 4 an hour is pretty normal, in one bay. My record for a guy who had a ton (enough for the entire classifier) of magazines and with 3 people swapping targets (9 targets, pasting and scoring when done) was a 5 minute classifier. That was not something you can do all the time, but we were trying to see how fast we could do it.

  6. Hello,

The webpage for the IDPA Postal Match has been updated at http://www.idpapostalmatch.com

Please note that there is a listing of all shooters who currently have their entries added to the match overall results. If you are not in this list, that means I did not receive your club's file yet.

We have a listing of the clubs who have submitted results organized by Month Shot.

Lastly, we have a listing of ineligible shooters who are not current members of IDPA. Please check this list over and if you or a friend are on this list, do what you can to get this fixed. Ineligible members will be culled on 12/24/2012.

    Thank You,

    Ted Murphy

  7. Hello,

I was considering getting an 8 shot .357 magnum revolver to play with. This would be for a local steel league, and range use. I might use it in a USPSA match or two for fun, and perhaps ICORE if my schedule ever jibes with a match. No comp, probably no optic, minor loads only.

I was looking at the 627. 8 shot, 4" barrel.

    I also was looking at the 327 TR8. 8 shot, 5" barrel.

The S&W web page is vague but I have heard the TR8 is cut for moon clips. Is that true?

Is the 627 cut for clips too?

The main reason I found the TR8 attractive is the lighter weight. I would think that after shooting Glocks for a few years, the 41 ounce 627 would be slow to drive. The 327 is 6 ounces lighter, which I thought would make it more responsive for a minor gun. Anyone with any experience with this?

Lastly, will the scandium frame hold up as a heavy use range gun? I have no experience with them.

    Thank you,

    Ted

  8. Saturday we had a shooter UASC. The ejector hit the primer. Out of battery detonation. The shooter got a cut on his thumb. The SO got a gash on his forearm and a welt on his chest. I patched him up. The bleeding from the arm was bad, the gash was about 2" long by 1/8" wide. The chest was a large bruise with a smallish cut. A piece of brass might still be in there. He was going in for x rays. I have not heard yet what was found.

The gun was an STI 1911 in .40. The ejector is done for but the gun is ok.

The shooter racked the slide using the front cocking serrations. His thumb was near the ejection port, which is how he got cut.

I'm glad he was not covering the ejection port to catch the round. He would have trouble with ketchup bottles.

  9. Steve,

I keep hearing people say they may allow round dumping and reloading on the move in the next rulebook. If this is true, I'd rather them legalize the speed reload; the shooters will save a lot of ammo.

  10. I expect that it may come to pass that the chrono will be a requirement for major matches.

If such a requirement comes to be I hope they word it carefully to allow for the fickle finger of fate.

I would hate to see a match lose its sanction because they could only afford one chronograph and it went down during the match due to rain/failure/getting shot/etc.

  11. I lent a shooter two mag pouches at a local match. I did not get them back. I did not remember until this weekend when I was looking for them and now I cannot remember who it was that borrowed them.

I am more mad at myself than the shooter. Whoever he is.
