  1. What powder were you using? Win 540
  2. I also have used the Midway moly coating kit with 38 Super loads in IPSC years ago. After a while I noticed what looked like lots of tiny scratches in my Baer match barrel. I saw somewhere that a common contaminate in moly is silicon. Since silicon is very abrasive I put two and two together and haven't used it since lol.
  3. The barrel twist rate is very important with .223 load data. It has a huge impact on group results.
  4. Thanks for the thought, but there's one problem...I don't have a single stack hehe. My limited Para:
  5. I've never had a problem with a Cominolli frame saver guide rod and I've used one many years shooting with 180+ PF loads. They are not designed to use without both buffs on them though and I could see where that might cause a problem.
  6. My 38 super was built by Les Baer on a Para gunsmith frame, but don't think he will build them anymore on a Para frame. I had the comp start cracking on me at the first port after about 20,000+ rounds. Les put a new barrel and comp on it for me but said that he wouldn't do it again (for free anyway). While he was replacing the barrel/comp (long time) I switched to shooting limited and really never went back to open division. I want to get back to the red dot now though, my eyes don't focus too well anymore on the iron sights.
  7. Yeah I'd say start with what you have now, in production or limited. Especially if you're not loading your own ammo.
  8. Sell that 540 to a skeet shooter for their 28ga reloads, it is a poor choice for 45acp. Try s1000, WST, Clays or Bullseye for much better results. Hope this helps, Kirby 540 is good in 40S&W and OK in 9mm. Ok, good I need to load some 9mm standard loads too. I also load 38 super with it but haven't shot open class for a while. Recon in this thread liked 540 for 45ACP: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83171 What seems to be the problem with it? Too slow?
  9. Thank you! I'll try that, anyone else have some input? I have about 14 lbs of 540 I need to use up.
  10. I have all the above listed powders and lots of 200g LSWC from my old USPSA days. I got the bug to shoot USPSA limited class again with my 45ACP. I used to load for the old "major" PF, now I want to some ideas for loads to just make the new kinder, gentler "major". I have a chrono, but right now no place to shoot with it. Please help My old 45ACP match load was using 6.1g of 231 with Precision's 200g "Black" SWC. Seated to 1.247-1.253. This got me to about 185 PF on a warm day. Other minor details, I use R&P nickel brass, Win large pistol primers and shoot a 5" Baer match barrel (no compensator). Thanks for any input.
  11. I used to shoot left handed (still do with rifles) but forced myself to switch to a righty years ago for that very reason. Now it feels weird to shoot with my left hand. Might give it a try.
