I am not sure you are breaking a commandment by filing the extractor. I had the same issue when installing a new Aftec and FPS, I filed down the right edge of the FPS and it worked out fine.
Another SoCal shooter! Were you at Pala?

I have a LNL and 650 side by side. If I could I would replace the LNL for a Dillon. I think the die bushings should lock in place, they don't so they work their way out. The powder drop is massive, but consistent. The PTX barely works for me too.

Here is my load:
Brass: mixed
Primers: Winchester
Heads: Berry's 180gr FP
Powder: 5.1 - 5.2gr WST
OAL: 1.21"
Crimp: .421

I have a couple hammers lying around that have their hooks at less than 90 degrees out of the package that I kept with the intention of correcting in the future. I would rather not use that hammer hook file.

I have a TR jig and an Ed Brown jig that handles sears wonderfully. I am hoping to find a jig that makes prepping hammers easier. The Power Custom Series 1 is highly regarded for 1911s, but I can not find specific information on what it can do for squaring up hammer hooks.
-
Check out the true radius jig by Chuck Warner over at warner's pistols.
That only does Sears, not hammers. (unless he has a new hammer jig out?)
Chuck has a hammer jig in the works, I believe it is not out yet.

Is there a jig out there that makes squaring up and bringing down the hammer hooks a easy task?

Hard chrome! It is bulletproof!

I can't believe I haven't been out shooting since MAY! I am finding how hard it is to juggle work, a personal life, and shooting all at once and also realizing how easy it is to go from gung-ho dedication to absolute nothing.
Here is a list of items I had to overcome recently:
1) No bullets - No more money for factory ammo
2) Reloading bench constructed , and relaoding press is setup - New Case Feeder and Bullet Feeder (woot!)
3) New trigger and trigger job.
4) Reloading supplies purchased.
5) Lost about 25 pounds. My joints were starting to kill me with the extra heft. I realized if there is any hope of longevity in this sport I need to be leaner.
My GF has a new night job so this gives me extra time during the week to train. Time to load up some ammo and head back out!

What caliber are you loading? It took me a couple of days to setup with .40 S&W to get just right. I get very little variance using the PTX and pistol micrometer insert.

This is an old post and I'm new here so forgive me if someone else has answered this, but the shell plate problem is solved for about 50 cents and a trip to your nearest big box store.
Take the shell plate bolt with you (I think it's 5/16, but don't quote me). Go to the fasteners section and pick up 1 flat washer and 1 split ring lock washer.
Reinstall with the flat washer on the shell plate and the lock washer on the flat washer. Torque till snug.
It won't back out again unless you mean it to. Why Hornady didn't do this in the first place is beyond me.
Cheers!
Thanks for the advice! I had solved pretty much every issue but this one. I bought a 3/8" lock washer and snugged it down, it seems to be doing the trick.

Interesting! I might try it out.

On my SV short dust cover frame the measurement from the shoulder where the recoil spring guide rod sits to the end of the dustcover is 2.28 inches and measuring from the forward edge of the slide lock hole to the end of the dustcover is 2.53 inches.
Thank you!
-
I'll get some measurements this afternoon for ya.
That would be great! I appreciate it.
-
A measurement is what i'm looking for. I was wondering how much to lop off of a ldc to make it standard.
You want the dustcover to overlap the spring channel cover on the slide by about .100 which is what a short DC frame does. Are you planning on lightening your Edge?
Mike
Yes I am planning on lightening my Edge. I have two of them, one is sitting around not getting much attention so I figured I would use it as somewhat of a test gun for different configurations just for fun.

Simple question I guess, but how much shorter is a 2011 SDC compared to the LDC? Can somebody provide measurements?
-
I'm typically the opposite.

Hell, I just use the safe-edge file on my Leatherman, and a sharpie marker to keep it straight.... it only takes a few passes on each side to go from .125" to .135".
This is exactly what I did in January. So far I love it, and its a quick job.

I feel you, I'm in the same boat. 27 with my knee scoped three times. One forum member here recommended Denovo injections. My insurance won't cover it though.
I use liquid aleve, stretch, and cycle. Cycling has done a tremendous amount of strengthening for my knee that I haven't seen with years in the gym.
Good luck!

I'm not married and don't have kids. I barely have the time.

What bullet profile and material do you use? Crimp?
Do the rounds in your magazine contact the ejector?
Have you tried this without your extractor in?
Does your slide stop shelf show signs of brass/copper/lead contact?
What is the make of the gun? Is the barrel ramped?

Glad you are doing this!
Funny thing, whenever I'm on the classifieds I'm keeping my eyes out for a lime-green grip just for him also.
