I pick up, load, and fire all ejected rounds I find at the range.
I do pull, inspect, and reload them with my own components though...

I've lost count. The worst I've seen is where someone's WileyX's stopped a large fragment - no pictures but it shattered the glasses. He was fine.
-
I use a neoprene cover when I'm not shooting it.

DCD is the only way to go.
I have a knob on mine - it isn't a custom dial but it is repeatable and accurate. I snagged a used LaRue mount and as others have said here, it's a must!
I used the knob once this year on the 400 yard target at FNH. It works...
Here's the shameless plug:

Thread hi-jack:
I'm looking to have a 1911 front sight dovetail milled into a Benelli M1 vent rib and a Taurus PT1911 rear sight dovetail machined to accomidate a Novak sight.
Email me at dyno 5 4 1 a t g m a i l do t c o m if you'd like to make some money.

They're for shooting steel targets!

A collet puller is one of the most useful items I have for my press. Don't f*#k with the hammer...
-
I did like at FNH when they said - use what you want to knock down "this" target.
I'm all in favor of courses where there's optional ways to approach it but allowing buckshot on every target would get expensive real quick.
It might be fun on ONE stage at an all shotgun match but in normal 3-Gun, 100 rounds of shotgun on steel being $100 would turn a lot of people off. I wouldn't shoot that match.
-
Cost!
If you said, "everyone can use buckshot" soon enough, everyone would have to shoot buckshot at every steel target to remain competitive.
If all it takes is one pellet out of an open choke to take down a steel plate, then there's no reason not to fire nothing BUT buckshot at things that aren't clays.

The only people who get stage dq's are the top pros, match sponsors, and friends of the md. Joe Schmoe gets a match dq and goes home. It is total bullshit. I've seen this happen a couple times this year and have heard a number of stories about it.
I would like to know examples please so I dont attend thse matches.
Yup!
If anything, I'd say the pros get more scrutiny. On top of that, "I didn't know better" ain't an excuse.
What did you see?

There seems to be a commom theme here. Most people started with the glocks, m&ps and others then ended up buying a 2011. I did the exact same thing. Save your money to get a STI edge in .40 you will be glade you did. Dawson percision makes very nice and reliable 2011's.
Do what he said except get one in 9mm.
The only thing .40 will get you in 3-gun is slower follow up shots and less capacity.

Search for people reporting pitting on their breech faces.
Depending on your load, it could be a bad idea.

I can get excited about the SCAR-H, I'll buy one as soon as I can!

Missed it in the thread is this going to be on the Three Gun Nation tour?
Pat
The tour hasn't been announced yet. I'd expect that around SHOT Show or sooner.

2011 or throw rocks...

MG JHP's are more accurate than their FMJ/CMJ's for me. YMMV

I've always wanted a 6 round revolver that fired .355 9mm bullets.
I'll be buying the 6" 9x21 and shooting mostly 9mm minor through it.
Having the option of shooting 9x21 at major (and possibly 9mm major) will be awesome!
Anyone know where I can get one?

I don't shoot USPSA anymore but I shoot Outlaw 3-Gun.
I've got 10,000 Remington 100gr CTG Frangibles and two 9mm 2011's that can withstand major pressures.
I wonder if it would be feasible to run these in a 6".
(My standard load is 4.6gr Solo 1000 w/ 115gr bullets at 1000 FPS)

W/O the backers the long range targets become nearly impossible to pick out from the background. A substitute, that MIGHT work could be marker flags on each side of the targets. Remember this match is not about finding a target, but rather about hitting them.
Kurt Miller once told me using lime sprinkled on the dirt behind the target works great for every sight system.
Yup! They do it at the Steel City rifle match every year - allows you to spot your hits and allows high contrast (white powder, black target).

Any way to download this or purchase a dvd? I can't get NBC Sports where I am.
I suggested that to Chad Adams. Hopefully they put together a DVD for each season.
What would you pay for it?
Top Shot is selling for $3 an episode on Amazon.

What about some how inserting a SS or tungsten rod tonhelp with weight?
Then you have an armor piercing round.
I asked an engineer who worked for Lake City and posts on this forum.
The problem that you run into, even when considering alternative metals, is that it is too expensive, too light, or too hard/soft to make into a bullet.
The bullet has to have sufficient weight to cycle the action and fly in a straight line, sufficient hardness to accept rifling without destroying it, and cheap.
Lead is the only metal that accomplishes all of that right now.
Maybe someday, metal polymer hybrid bullets will be cheaper to run in pistols.
When the CTG frangibles were selling on MidwayUSA for $40 per thousand the other week, I thought that time was upon us.

"How could it have been better?"
The PROAM proved that you could give away free beer out of a gigantic trailer - and there would still be someone on the internet who wasn't satisfied.
Kudos to the staff for putting on a fun match - I enjoyed the stages and I will be back as long as they continue to be this awesome!

A few of us hit the range the other day to zero and dope our rifles for the FNH 3-gun match.
For shiggles, we busted out the 9mm minor guns to ring steel at long range.
A couple of us made hits out to 300 yards - you've got to put a hell of a lot of holdover to get out that far.
You probably won't get a first round hit but you'll surely scare the hell out of somebody.
I tried shooting out to 400 yards but aiming at 45 degrees in the air is pushing the limitations of the cartridge - got pretty damn close but no luck.
The bay goes out to 700 yards but I'm pretty sure hitting the berm means aiming into the air (dangerous).

We don't shoot enough slugs in 3-gun to justify reloading them (unless you already do like other posters said).
Wolf Small Rifle Primers in 9mm minor?

Do a search for breech face erosion...
Then use the primers in a high-pressured load.
