. . . I'd REALLY like to see some 1911 manufacturer come out with a decent, reliable gun with the front strap checkered for under $1k. And if the quality issues aren't enough, the squared frontstrap on the Taurus makes it feel like a 2x4 in the hand, which really ruins the feel of the 1911.
Doesn't the Spartan have a squarish front strap? Pictures that can really show this seem few and far between. (Someone help a guy out. Post a pic of the mag well opening in the frame so I can really see the shape of the front strap.) I haven't found one to fondle yet.
Front strap checkering is something else I'd probably want to have added. That sort of pushes me away from the hard chrome on the Dawson Super-Tuned Spartan. If I have it checkered later, I'll have to have at least the frame refinished. So I don't want to spend money on the chrome in the beginning.

I try to clean 'em once a month or every thousand rounds, whichever comes first. Sometimes I may go several months though (when I'm only shooting a couple hundred rounds a month; I clean them more if I'm shooting more).
So not near as much as the guys who clean them every time they're fired, but quite a bit more than the once-a-year crowd.
(And my dad was a Marine who taught me to clean the guns as soon as you got back home with them. But I got over that.
)If it's a defensive weapon that I carry more or less every day, I like to clean it once a week or so even if it hasn't been fired, just to get the dust and lint out of it.

I watched a computer geek do a wipe with a 12 gauge slug once.....
That should do the trick for anyone short of Forensic computer recovery specialists....
You'd be amazed what they can get...I'd go with several rounds of buckshot...then cut it up with a torch!
A friend of mine who used to work around sensitive information in the military said that;
1 They wiped and then wrote over the hard drive multiple times.
2 Then they removed the drive and physically wiped it across a big magnet.
3 Then they ran it through a shredder. (Had a special scredder for this that chopped up the metal case and everything.)
4 Then they burned the shreds of what was left.
I don't think anyone is going to get anything off of that drive.

I like 8-9.
1. shooter
2. RO (I'm assuming the RO is also shooting with the squad, so someone else will have to take over RO duties when it's his turn.)
3. score keeper (The clip board usually gets passed among 2 or 3 people depending on who's shooting.)
4. previous shooter is reloading
5. on deck shooter is at the start position getting his head in the game
That leaves 3-4 people to past/set/pick up.
Over a dozen and it just takes too long. Less than 7 and it's hard to get everything done.
So 7-12, is good with ideal being 8, 9, or maybe even 10.

Thats just an estimate, since there are not enough scores in for that classifier calculator. My 72 gave me 80% in single stack,
And you got 89 of 90, you slacker!
If he got 89 of 90, then 89/90=.9888888888888888888888888, so it would be 98.8889%

I shot a 29 today in Singlestack with West Texas Practical Shooters.
CmCalc shows 32.2219%.
You don't really need the classifier calculator for fixed time classifiers. Just divide your points by the points available for the stage.
Doing that gives me 32.2222%.

Guy comes into shop looking for a military 1911.
Reminded me of another customer.
Lady comes into the store and says she's looking for a "military pistol." She's not old enough to have been in the military before they went to the Beretta, so I show her a 92F.
"Yes! That's what I want." I get it out of the counter to show it to her. No, she's not going to buy it right now though. And before I can start explaining our layaway, she turns towards the door and out she goes.
Ok, whatever. I figure she knows what she wants and just can't afford it at the moment. Been there, believe me.I mention it to the owner and he says she comes in there and does the same thing every couple months.
During the time I was there, I talked to her about the pistol at least one more time and one other guy also showed it to her once that I know of.
(Reading this now, doesn't sound near as funny as it was at the time. Guess it was a "be there" thing. We called her "Miss Military Pistol" since no one ever got a name out of her until she actually filled out the paperwork. But she never knew what it was called other than "military pistol." Said she was in the National Guard. I did get that much from her once.)
She finally bought it. At the same time she bought a membership to the gun club. Both the gun stores in town sold memberships to the gun club. You paid annually and got a key to the gate and could come and go as you wished.
Someone at our store got a call from a lady who got locked in the gun club and couldn't get her key to work. (This was not unusual, though none of the regulars could ever figure out why newbies had trouble with the key. Usually they were locked out. It was kinda unusual for someone to be locked in.) We were not really responsible for the club other than selling memberships. But whenever someone called us, we called one of our regulars who, while not officially a gun club officer, was the guy who sort of took care of the place. My co-worker and I were taking bets that it was Miss Military Pistol. (We knew her name by now, from the yellow form, but continued to call her that.) When Danny came in after rescuing the damsel in distress, we asked him to describe her. It was her. We were not surprised.
Danny was like, "You sold her a gun? I doubt she could tie her shoes without help." -
I bet I get 1-2 a month that truly believes a 9mm won't even hurt you.
Yeah, and on the other end of the spectrum, I've had customers who thought 9mm was more powerful than a .45. Thought the 9 was the biggest baddest thing out there because that's what their buddies talk about.
I don't really want to get shot with any of them.
He said he take them anyway and walked out with 200 bullets for his gun and no idea what he was going to do with them.

I was just joking about that. Whoever drove in the most nails won. If there was a tie, it would have been determined by who had the fastest time. My time was, as usual, slooooow. So even if I'd gotten that extra nail and tied you there, you'd have beaten me on time. Congrats on the win.
Are you still thinkin of going to the WSSSC in Jan? Let me know I'll see about getting us squadded together.I'd love to, but right now I just don't see any way I can make it happen financially. Maybe next year. I've got to get to Rio one of these days.

I'm surprised the bison got away from it. I once saw a video of a bear running down a deer. They're a lot faster than they look. If anyone ever tells you that you can get away from a bear in the mountains by running down hill (their logic is that the bear's front legs are shorter and it'll stumble when running down hill
) or uphill or whatever nonsense, they're full of it. You have about as good a chance outrunning a horse. (So be sure you hike with slower friends, lol.) -

I've won Singlestack Division at three local matches. In two of those it was because I was the only SS shooter there. In the other one I was first of two and the other guy was more of a newb than me.Even as a competition wouldnt you want to compete against the least ammount of people to have the best chance at wining? You don't get much in the way of bragging rights for winning like that. Now, if some day I go to an area match and win SS, I'll be proud of that. I won't care if there were only 5 SS shooters.Here's a break down of two clubs where I shoot somewhat regularly, and where I could quickly find the results for 2010:

If I win SS there, I'll feel like it's an accomplishment. A couple of guys at that club know how to drive a 1911. I think that last year (2009) there was more Revolver participation than this year, with usually one Revo at most matches and occasionally two. These numbers seem to vary quite a bit from one match to another, but it's mostly the same core group of shooters showing up with different guns from one month to another.
