  1. :):) It looks like the proposed 3-gun rules were approved on July 14 2005. It looks like we will be using the new rules for the 3-gun Nationals in Vegas. Woo Hoo!!! :)

It should be a great match. Multiple guns, Preloading, Hot guns and unloading procdures for moving down range of guns. I think this is a great step forward for USPSA.

Also, today is July 18th and I recieved my packet in the mail today.

  2. SVI is out, Brownells doesn't carry them anymore, Speed Shooters is out.

I only want 3 of them, but they are no where to be found. Post a reply if you know where some are. Yes an SVI not a STI. 40 caliber.

    Thanks

  3. MG 5.2.5.3   ;)

Because, as a course designer, I can say "engage all targets as visible" on a combined rifle/pistol stage (for example), and if the competitor wants to engage targets one meter downrange with rifle, or one hundred meters downrange with a pistol, it is their choice.  Ah, freestyle solutions to shooting challenges...  :D

And I really like the enhanced target value supplement!  But who the hell is "San Angelo?"

    B)

    Alex

One of the reasons that you can't do that is the major and minor scoring rules with the san angelo scoring. You know, minor pistol major rifle, what is what on whitch target. Who would keep track of what target got shot with what gun? I think we should give the rules a try.

  4. I think that those of you bashing Michelin are overlooking 2 small issues:

    1) The tire companies (Bridgestone and Michelin) make tires specifically for each track, (most of the time).

    2) Indy had recently been repaved, and it was done so poorly that the Firestone (sister company to Bridgestone) tire test for the IRL had to be postponed, as did a Nascar (sic) tire test, until the track was able to grind down the bad spots and fix it.  The repaving/grinding certainly would change the character of the track.  The point is that it is possible that Bridgestone was able to get data from the Firestone IRL test, while Michelin was left using year-old data for a track that had since been changed.

Funny thing is the FIA sent Michelin a letter in early June telling the tire suppliers about the tire tests and to be prepared for the Indy track. Michelin sent back a letter saying that they were prepared. Also the teams could have changed tires every ? laps and raced, the FIA even said OK to that, I think they wanted to show the FIA they had power to start a new series. I think it is the fault of the teams, they could have raced but did not. The michelin teams f****d the fans.

  5. This forum is great. The only other forum that I visit is "shotgunworld.com". It does not have the profanity either. Very knowlegable people on shotgun stuff like sporting clays, trap and skeet.

  6. And no it was not in East L.A.

It was in El Monty just south of Pasadina. I took my shotgun, my Daughter and we went to the Triple B Clays My daughter and I shot 100 rds of sporting clays. I thought they had a very nice shooting club. The sporting clays was great fun. The Skeet and Trap areas looked very nice! It is a little wierd though, to be shooting your shotgun and to see the 60 freeway with cars and truck just driving by. While we were waiting for my wife to get back from shopping, Don Ziegler gave my daughter an improptu skeet lesson. The people were very nice and they had a full supply of reloading products. I even purchased some shot becouse it was cheeper there than I can get it for here in Utah.

If you have to go to L.A. and want to have some fun shooting, Take your shotgun and go give it a try.

  7. Here we are squabling "round capacity" when the real stuff to address for USPSA is the multigun stuff like grounding of hot weapons and such, Getting R.O.s up to speed on "all 3", and the problem with the major minor thing in scoring

-- we're fixing the "grounding of hot weapons"

-- we're developing an RO course addendum *just* for long-guns

    -- we're working on the major/minor thing

-- we think we have a way to do the scoring "right"

And, notably.... nobody from the USPSA side that *I* know of is trying to "make up new rules" for things like rifle mag limits or barrel length.

Bruce (I *like* having choices... isn't that what practical is about?)

I thought I would bring this back up to the top of the list to see how the "new" USPSA 3-gun rules were coming along?

    Bruce are you there? :)

  8. Last moth I got a new Ponsness/Warren 2000 shotgun shell reloader. Wow. What an awsome machine. It like the dillion 1050 of shotgun reloaders. Even with junk hulls like Estate and Federal Wal-Mart hulls the reloads are better than the factory ones. AA and STS hulls look like a million bucks.

If your thinking about a shotgun reloader and want one that will last 2 lifetimes get a P/W.

  9. I am advers to the " there ought to be a rule" mentality that seems to follow any large club, when it is just a rule for rules sake! Hey what about S.C.C.A?? Man I could do a couple of pages on them!! Wheres the Friday Flame war when needed? :D  KURTM

I hope you mean The "Sports Car Club of America" when you say the S.C.C.A.

And really they aren't that bad. Have you seen NASCAR or the worst one of all "Formula 1". Of course in auto racing pushing the rules can win or loose you a race. In the shooting sports it's more about the shooters ability than an equipment race.

  10. Using Imga scoring does reward speed, I agree, and I do like comstock scoring. I just wish that in our matches we could find a way to sort of integrate the two. I would like rewarding the shooter for getting better hits on paper. In the example of the one shot at 500 yrd, that is easy to fix in time plus scoring, as a match director is is easy to assign any target more time penalty, say 15 seconds. I also like the speed in which it take to score the match, You only need to mark the number of misses on the score sheet rather than A, B, C, D, for each shot. On the other hand comstock does reward speed and accuracy.

Bruce, I hope you can find a way to make comstock scoring work in USPSA 3-gun. I am really rooting for you. As a USPSA member I will be coming to the 3-Gun Nationals in Vegas. I would like nothing more than to see it work perfect.

    Thread drift (ON)

The only thing I would like to see in Vegas, IMHO, is that the RO's on each stage have to have shot in at least 5 3-gun matches.

  11. I know that allot of people want comstock scoring for 3-gun. But being the simpleton that I am, I have just never spent a whole lot of time thinking about the "scoring ramifications" of it. Whenever I look over the scores of the USPSA matches that I shoot I see that the shooters who put 2 holes in the paper in the least amount of time are the winners. I would bet that if you were to take ANY USPSA match and just re-score it using what is IMGA scoring that the results would be the about same. I would bet that a person's scoring position would be the same 98% of the time. i.e. if I was in 5th with comstock, re-scored Imga (time plus) I would still be in 5th. I also do not think that comparing IDPA scoring to IMGA score is a fair comparison either. As the president of a 3-gun club in Utah, what would make our club switch from Imga to USPSA comstock scoring. Is it that much better? and why?

  12. To make the separation from a 40rd mag to a 30 rd mag you would really need to have an array of targets of more than 15, without movement, to give the open guy an advantage. You might get that at the Ironman but not anywhere else. If at any point the shooter needs to take more than 3 steps, a mag change can happen with no loss in time. Why limit the mag size in rifle if it will be essentially irrelevant?

    Scott Peterson

  13. Does that mean that my AR-10T (308 semi-auto rifle) is O.K. to shoot in this match?

I would also like to ask a couple of other things. Are the distances of the targets given to the shooter, or do they come to the shooting line and have to range find the distance then adjust the rifle to make the shot. Making a hit at a known distance is a lot easier than trying to mil-dot, range estimate and then make the shot.

    Thanks

  14. I just pulled apart a Black Hills 68gr hpbt Hornady to see how much Tac they loaded in their ammo. They are using Lake City brass and 23.6 grains of tac at a speed of 2900 fps as it says on the box but when I crono them I only get 2774 fps I shot 10 rounds over my CED crono at about 10 feet. High was 2839. Low was 2694. This was out of my JP 20" heavy barrel ar-15.

  15. Allot of the older Hornady reloaders came with a crimp starter meant for paper wads. That means they are smooth on the inside. If it has a regular 6 or 8 point crimp starter you might try getting a new one with sharper edges. Also on new hulls you need to stay in the "up" position for up to 5 seconds so that it takes a start and hold the final crimp. I load Ballistic Products Multi-Hull new shells and that is what it take to work for me.

  16. I did a lot of research on this and only found a couple of people who did not like moly. They all said it was great to shoot, improved the speed of the bullet, lowered the pressure, went longer between cleaning and was easer to clean, BUT, The theory is is that moly will coat the barrel (good for all the reasons stated above) and when it does coat the barrel it has the ability to trap water underneath the molly and cause pitting and rusting in your barrel, under the molly that can never be cleaned out no matter how much you scrub and push patches through the barrel.

You have to decide if this "theory" and the other moly theory's is a good one or not. You know how some gun people are, if they don't like something (or want to spend the money on it) they will tell you that "theory's" are "Facts". Funny thing is alot of these same kind of arguments are used for crio treatment. Real scientific fact are hard to come by. If it works use it.

  17. Ramshot Tac is ball powder with small, large and flattened balls all mixed up together. Living in Utah with zero degrees in the winter and up to over 100 in the summer the heat and cold has no effect on it from what I can tell. And It is one of the least expensive powders to shoot, except that military pulled powder.
