  1. Anyone know if I could still get in on the steel match on a Saturday AM squad? I didn’t sign up when I registered because I wasn’t sure I could stay an extra day.
  2. I have a XD9 that I use for USPSA Production. It has 13K through it without any trouble. I replaced a few pins and the recoil and striker springs at 10K. Springer trigger parts are good. The striker retaining pin has to be removed to clean the striker channel so I just replace it with a new one when I detail strip every 2K or so. It is a standard metric roll pin that you can purchase in quantity from a supply house like McMaster Carr. I actually use a spring type roll pin instead of the standard split type as it seems to hold up to dry fire better.
  3. BBI 130gr 3.6gr solo 1000 OAL 1.125 126PF out of a 5” XD I bumped it up to 3.8 for some PF headroom. I have run about 1k of this load with no problems.
  4. Black Bullets Int. 130gr over Solo 1000. Here are the chrono results. Gun - 5”XD OAL - 1.125 Primer - WSP Brass - WIN Temp - 25F Distance from chrono - 6ft 5 shot average 3.0 - 858fps 111PF 3.3 - 925fps 120PF 3.5 - 956fps 124PF 3.6 - 970fps 126PF There were no pressure signs at 3.6 so I stepped up to 3.7 and then 3.8 to get some PF margin. At 3.8 I still don’t see much difference in the appearance of the primer. I did not have a chance to chrono this yet. I have used about 500 of these in the last two matches I have shot. No problems with smoke or barrel fouling so far.
  5. SAFriday - Thanks for the info. Have you used the hydrogen peroxide / vinegar solution in a non-stainless barrel?
  6. MemphisMechanic – It was Precision’s that I had barrel fouling problems with, but I was loading them with 231. So far I really like the BBI product and the profile on their 130gr allows me to load a longer OAL than the 125gr Precision. To be fair I would like to try Precision’s again with Solo 1000. I hope they work because there would be nothing wrong with two sources for good bullets.
  7. I load with a 550 and I haven't noticed any problems metering Solo 1000. It is bulky enough that a double charge in 9mm is obvious so that's a plus. When I have a chance I will put a larger sample over the chrono top see what the deviation is like. As far as cleaning out the moly fouling, good luck. I used liberal amounts of Hoppe's semi auto solvent, wore out a bore brush and followed that with 1000 rounds of CMJ. There must be something that cuts this stuff. I'm not a fan of scrubbing bores. Hopefully it won't be an issue with Solo.
  8. Recently I started using the Black Bullets 130gr over Solo 1000. 3.6gr at an OAL of 1.125 out of a 5” XD makes 126PF. I increased to 3.8gr without pressure signs. This combination produced very little smoke and the barrel fouling has been minor so far. Previous to this I tried Precision 125gr over 231. This produced a fair amount of smoke and BAD barrel fouling in 200 rounds. I suspect the Precision bullets will work just as well with the Solo 1000. I think the improvement with Solo comes from a cooler burn and a faster pressure rise to help seal the bullet to the bore.
  9. Here is my experience with poly coated bullets so far. The first try was Precision 9mm 125gr over 3.9gr of 231. This made 129 PF out of a 5” XD. I had to load them with an OAL of 1.080 to keep them out of the rifling on this gun. The problem with this combination was a nasty plastic like fouling in the barrel. I used up 1000 and then switched to CMJ’s. The price has lured me back. This time I tried Black Bullets Int. 130gr over Solo 1000. Here are the chrono results. Gun - 5”XD OAL - 1.125 This bullet profile gets along with the XD barrel much better. Primer - WSP Brass - WIN Temp - 25F Distance from chrono - 6ft 5 shot average 3.0 - 858fps 111PF 3.3 - 925fps 120PF 3.5 - 956fps 124PF 3.6 - 970fps 126PF There were no pressure signs at 3.6 so I stepped up to 3.7 and then 3.8 to get some PF margin. At 3.8 I still don’t see much difference in the appearance of the primer. I did not have a chance to chrono this yet. I loaded up a batch and used about 250 at the 09 WIIT. This is an indoor match and I had no problems with smoke. The barrel fouling is greatly reduced; I think this has more to do with the powder than the bullet. I need to spend some more time with the chrono and figuring out POA POI, but with the fouling problem solved these might become my primary bullet. I will probably try the 147’s when I have a chance. Thanks for all the info here; it got me going in the right direction.
