Besides the dry fire, also looking for live fire or at least simulated live fire like any computer programs that have a gun that interacts with the screen, like the old Duck Hunt game. Thanks, Jack! I think all of my guns are going to get very well cleaned in the near future. I do need to get some reloading underway, but still working up my load for my new pistol. I just moved to open and using a recipe from a trusted friend I pressed out about 800 rounds on the high side to be sure I made major PF. And just prior to my surgery I was able to chrono them and found them to be going at 1500 FPS (124 JHP/10.1 #7). So I need to dial those down a bit, but since I'd need to get to the range to do it, not in the cards at the moment so I can't try to wear out my Dillon. Hmm. I wonder what kind of siting drills I can come up with? I might wind up being the quickest shooter from sitting at our club. Appreciate the info, Jack!

I incured an injury to my hip a couple of years ago which contined to degrade to the point of a reconstruction a few weeks ago, which needless to say, has put a damper on my shooting and training. A typical recovery to the point of the actions required for USPSA shooting looks to be around six months. Right now, I'm going crazy since I can't shoot or even put weight on my leg for another few weeks, then slowly, I can start putting weight back on that leg. So any suggestions on how I can train? I figured once I can move around a little I might go and shoot groups from the bench, then perhaps start back competing in something static like Speed Steel. But until that point, I love to hear how those who have been through a long term recovery have kept from backsliding too much. I will try some actual dry fire once I can stand without crutches but will be limited to non-momvent drills, and won't be picking up any mags off of the floor. I seem to recall some folks talking about a computer program that can project targets on a screen and somehow knows when you're shooting them. That would be cool, but I would like to be able to use my actual STI Open gun. Any other tips, suggestions, or otherwise? Thanks guys!

Thanks, guys! You're right, it is a bit daunting coming from the striker fired world. I helped a buddy replace his trigger on his 2011 last night (mine is still in the mail) and it took a little longer than I expected, but it went fine. We did have to remove some material on the top and bottom of the plastic trigger paddle because it was dragging pretty hard against the frame, and from the looks of it someone had done the same on the original one. We didn't make any adjustments on it with the set screw or the tab, which I think is the little part on the bow that looks like you can bend it out to adjust. The factory one wasn't bent so I didn't want to mess with the new part without knowing what exactly it would affect. I really like the new position, but do feel like a have little less leverage on it, which is probably more just me being used to the original one. So I think I'll replace mine, too and try it for a while. Back on the main spring topic for a second, the gun functions just fine with the new spring, but it sure seems like it takes quite a bit more effort to cycle the gun when the slide has to push the hammer back. I wasn't sure if this was how this upgraded trigger group should work, or if it was assumed that I would be trimming the spring. So with all of that, is there a good resource on working on this thing like an AGI video? Something that is hopefully geared for the way we setup our guns for USPSA. Hi experts! I have a STI TruBor and have two questions about new parts. I bought a new STI trigger, the short curved version to better accomodate my hand size. It comes attached to the trigger bow and looks like you have to replace the entire unit. Is that a simple swap out or does it require fitting or smithing? Can you just swap the paddle part on the stock bow? I also put in the Brazos tuned trigger group and noticed the mainspring is much longer than the factory one. Should that be trimmed? Thanks guys!

Any resources you could steer me to that describes how to adjust the grip safety's timing? I know that I could just eliminate it, but I personally like keeping it as just one more thing to keep me from ventilating my leg. Having it pointed, hot, near my leg already creeps me out as it is. Hahah! I'm doing that, too. Any my grip is so high that I often don't get the grip safety to disengage.

Drool.... How do you like the 90 degree mount? It didn't take me long to develop a disdain for the offset of the factory mount and swapped out out for a 45 degree. The offset is much better, but Lord was it a chore to zero.

Much better to buy a "ready to go STI" (TruBor) from Brazos - they go over the gun and make sure it's ready "to go". Get your mags there, too, while you're at it. Hahahah... After quite a bit of back and forth, I did exactly that, ordered my first Open gun, a STI Trubore from Brazos. I just got a TruBore for Open and was wondering if I could use my SNS 124's in it. I've been using 124 MG with 10.1 grains of #7 to make 9 major. Would the SNS melt under that load or gum up my comp? Thanks all!

Thanks again everyone for all of the info and the great advice! I'm somewhat technical and think I can probably keep an Open rig running. I'm really just looking for some of the speed enhancements of my own performance and thing changing to Open will help me work on that. And always being target focused will be a nice change.

Wow, it really has been a while since I posted here. Having a child really takes up some time! I did get to slip away after some cajoling with my wife, being a classifier match and all, and shot my first official IDPA classifier. I wasn't expecting much since I haven't dry fired in quite some time, and even less live fire. But I just "Andersoned" it and called every shot, didn't rush, and didn't let my mind get in a hurry. Well, I'm pretty excited to report that I shot it in 106.95 and made Expert in SSP! I think I was 20 points down over all and there was really only one shot that I didn't call. It was because I did rush a close target, the 5 yard retreating target, and pulled a -1. I came in second place overall and the winner got me by less than .2 seconds. If I had taken my time I wouldn't have been second. It really doesn't pay to rush. Pretty happy about the match! I'm gunning for A class in USPSA next.

I appreciate all of the help! I think I'm going to go for the Trubore next month and see how it goes. On a side note, I asked a friend who has always steered me in the right direction about bumping up to the GM and he said he likes to get some wear on the slide/frame BEFORE getting it hard chromed. Looking around, I don't see the GM offered in a NON chromed version. Are the differences between the Trubore and the GM that big of a deal?

Thanks everyone for the posts! Looks like I need to see what I can get out of the Vanek, but the ZEV is working well for me so far. I am certainly sold on the TTI sights, although I've found I need to adjust my loads a bit to align my POI with my POA.

I may be wrong here, but I don't think it matters if it's done internally. I seem to recall this being an issue because the changes were being done on the trigger lever itself which is visible. I'm sure someone will set us strait either way. Thanks for the info!
