Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This the simple extra collar I added to stop the shells dropping down before they started being guided into the tube. Legal for an Open IPSC gun.
  2. This is simulating what happens with mine when loading in the shoulder. My solution in the next pic, but if someone can show me a way to modify the existing loading area to work without it that would be great.
  3. Is this on a 1301 competition? I am using the Arredondo chute on my 1301 competition, and found when loading in the shoulder, that the shells drop down from the Arredondo speedloader tube and hit the entry funnel, preventing loading. Cutting away the tube entry area on the gun wouldn't help this - I ended up having to extend that area in fact in order to form a funnel to catch the shells before they drop down. Effectively what I've done is to shorten the loading port.
  4. Funny you bring that up... I was having the same problem. I also like the Arredondo tubes and new loading bracket for the SLP. But, they don't work well in 4-shell holders. I got creative, and took parts from a CCW scabbard and an old TACCOM 8-UP Duaload and made this: I've run it in a few matches... so far so good. Holds the tubes securely, the handles right at belt level where they are easy to reach. I like it. Ideally, I'd like to replace the nylon part with something shorter made of kydex or some such. The inspiration was one of those bow-mounted archery quivers I saw a picture of. Do you have anything at the bottom to stop the shells dropping out of the loader tube? I found that if I'm running hard, the first cartridge would drop past the retaining clip. This was with the safari land quiver and the speeloaders you are using. I have had to glue some up stands in the bottom of the cups to support the cartridges. This has solved the problem. I have also now put a cable tie around each arm of every retaining clip, which seems to have stopped the problem with the speeloaders falling out when running.
  5. They are pretty tough. I guess anythings possible if you step on them hard enough but I haven't had any problems.
  6. I also use the standard Safariland scabbard with Arredondo metal 6 round speed loaders and also have problems with retention of the loaders when running. Sometimes I'll get near the end of a stage and find I've got nothing left. I've got some Ideas on how to fix, but generally I don't think the wings on the brackets on the scabbard are sufficiently grippy. I'm thinking about a horizontal mount at waist level, but need to check the rules.
  7. Indeed! Open 1301.jpg Open 1301a.jpg What was involved with the installation? Drifting out the stock trigger group pin, put the speed chute inplace & install the new supplied pin. Fits like a glove, even with my modded port. Ralph really did a nice job on these. Having run his chutes on M1/2's and the VM, at first I was wtf?,when I seen the newer type design (tangs sticking down). I just got back from testing, within no time I was hitting loads with the gun shouldered, something I could never do consisently with the others. It's also tapered nicely around the safety, rotating the gun ejection port up, guides my middle finger to put the safety back on. We'll see how much blood is shed come match time (gotta bleed in 3gun, right?), but so far I'm liking it. I'm curious about whether you made any other mods to the gun/speedloaders to get it to load smoothly. I'm running a 1301 with the Arredondo chute and Arredondo speedloaders. I have trimmed the tongues to length so the lifter is fully depressed just as the speedloader tube is fully inserted into the hooks on the chute. But I find that cartridges (58mm OAL) tend to catch on the bottom of receiver as they exit the speedloader, instead of going neatly into the magazine. They are hitting on the bottom just where the magazine tube is pressed into the receiver. The problem disappears when I add some material to lengthen the feed in funnel into the magazine, hence supporting the nose of the cartridge until it enters the magazine tube. Am I missing something or do I need to make some permanent receiver mods??
  8. I've found my 1301 much more relaxed about ammunition than my M1, which is quite an advantage. My 1301 cycles 65mm cartridges happily which gives me an extra round compared to 70mm loads - so I can get 14 in the gun on an option 2 start with only a +7 tube - 13 in the tube one on the lifter
  9. Yes those Remington 5/8 slugs are very accurate. Do they meet power factor though?
  10. 20 is no more or less reliable than a 12 in my experience - depends on the gun. My 20 M1 is faultless with the right ammunition and maintenance. 20 is easier for 2+2 than a 12, unless you have huge hands 20 is harder for load 2 than a 12 - the shell stack is less stable I found The 20 is easier to load from a caddy - I found it fairly easy to handle 4 shells which I could never do with a 12 The M1 20g is much easier and nicer to handle on a course than my 1301 12g - its just smaller and daintier and faster. Drawbacks on the 20 are cost of shells, and reduced choice in accessories. Invictus make 20g loading systems and these are great. But I don't know anyone else who does. Recoil is much worse on a 20 than a 12, using the same load, as the 20 is going to be lighter. Kickeez sorted mine out. I think if you can throw a 12 gauge round with confidence and speed, its probably the better platform. BUT many people can't, and should really try a 20.
  11. My only DQ was with my 1301 at unloading. I ran through all my normal drills at "If finished unload and show clear", was 100% sure the gun was empty, then at hammer down, BANG. I still can't explain it, but this is never going to happen to me again - I have fingers in every place that ammunition could lurk in that gun now before I'm happy it's empty. Why would you be doing Hammer down with a shotgun? I've never seen that at any type of match I've been to. Unload and show clear is followed by insertion of chamber flag and/or locking back of bolt. IPSC shotgun. "If you are finished, unload and show clear" is followed by "If clear, hammer down, open action".
