  1. that's the double stack configuration, It started out as a .45ACP and the other frame that came with the pair is a single stack.

    I love shooting 9mm 1911's and now i think i found a new love in the .38S.

just got them last weekend and shot them today. the 9mm is a little more accurate than the .38S. The difference is that the .38S started as a mil-spec and just got refit, while the 9mm was built with a Nowlin barrel.

The price for the pair is about what i was going to spend to build a 9mm at home.

  2. i just bought a pair of Springfield's one was a .38Super mil-spec and the other was a .45 Hi-cap. The original owner sent them both in to the Custom Shop for some work. To cut to the chase, the .45 hi-cap is no longer a .45, but now a frame for 9mm and .38Super. The work done to change the .45 to 9mm/38S (besides a complete new 9mm top) was cutting the frame for a Nowlin ramped barrel, 9mm ejector and slide stop. The guns were also fit so that the frame's/slide's are mix&match. Cost was about $1000 back in 2003 when he had it done for the 9mm conversion.

  3. To those of you who have replied-thanks. And pardon my use of the word "sleeve". I am not a 1911 aficionado as you can readily tell. I was referring to the barrel bushing. I just purchased a Wilson barrel bushing tool at one of my local gunshops.

OHHHHH. I'm surprised it disn't come with a bushing wrench, most 1911s do. Also, the barrel bushing is in the slide, not the frame.

Springfields don't come with bushing wrenches, not even the Custom Shop guns which really need them.

  4. Does anyone have any news or pictures on STI's new Fixed Barrel Pistol?

If you don't know what I'm talking about take look in STI's new catalog.

Even though it's listed there is no picture, just a blacked out outline.

    Thanks!

i just DL'd the catalog, and there's a pic of it on page 10

  5. Thinking about buying a Sig 1911 Revolution TTT. It's very similar to the Revolution STX and supposed to be very reliable and accurate out of the box . Anyone have any experience with this pistol?

I live in Ca. and the TTT is legal here the STX (which has more features) isn't.

i had one and it was a nice guns, but i sold it to fund the Wilson that i bought.

  6. My finger comes down from the top onto the trigger. So with a curved trigger I just did not get the right feel on my finger tip. With the flat trigger I can get the same contact point nearly everytime and I feel I have better trigger control with this set up.

same exact reason why i use flat triggers.

  7. also take note that the Ciener and i believe Kimber conversion kit's don't work with a 9mm since the ejector is a little taller.

I used to use a Ciener, and it was just a plinker.

Had a Kimber, but it wouldn't fit on my TRP (the only 1911 i had at the time). It would only go on about 1/2"

I now use a Wilson/Marvel Unit #2 and it works great.

  8. here's a good read for you on 9mm 1911 accuracy.

    Cliff note:

I learned a lot doing this story. The STI Trojan was a very pleasant surprise--not because it shot so well--but for the relatively modest price. The Springfield pistols are custom guns and priced accordingly, but are handsome as can be and ran flawlessly from the beginning. I saw a lot of cops shooting the Anderson amino at the big match and now I know why. Good stuff. But perhaps the biggest surprise of all was the accuracy of the Federal Hydra-shok and Winchester Silvertip ammo. Both are justly famous defensive loads. Who knew they could drive tacks too?
