I love the light AA's, especially when others are using them. I see too many people using light loads and having trouble dropping plates, either at distance or hard set plates on Texas Stars and the such. I use Remington Nitro 27s exclusively. The extra 100 or so feet per second combined with a LM choke means I never worry about hard set plates.

Remington, green obviously.

The inside of my gun looks like crap, so much fouling that it's hard to see the parts! Still, I'm going to just keep lubing it until I experience my first malfunction, or until I send it out for some work. I found a box of Winchester AA Light Recoil loads at work, took them out on the range and ran all 25 with no problems.

Agree with Benelli Chick. If our biggest problem as three gunners is there are too many matches to choose from we are blessed indeed.
-
The Prismatic is a non-magnified optics. Most matches are now allowing them in the Tac-Iron and Heavy-Metal-Iron Divisions.
I know it's picking nits, but technically the Prismatic is a magnified optic, it just magnifies 1X. Aimpoints are non-magnified, although often incorrectly referred to as 1X.

I have not modified anything on the gun yet. I got a minor lifter bite when i first got it but then modified my technique to help prevent it. I use the load 2 method and after inserting two rounds you just need to move your hand and thumb back to the rear slightly before pulling away from the gun. Problems arise when you try to pull your hand straight up from the gun with the end of your thumb still in the tube. Blood and cussing galore!!
I will be getting some minor work done over the winter, rear sight, welded lifter, mechanism smoothed somewhat for easier loading.

Crossed the 1,000 round mark with my Versa Max Tactical today. That's 1,000 rounds since I bought it in April without any cleaning or maintenance, just lubed before each match or shooting session. The gun has had no malfunctions of any kind so far. The gun is stll stock except for the +1 tube extension bought from Galco Manufacturing.

DSG Arms shows them in stock right now for $950. VX-6 Multigunner 1-6x24 with SPR Firedot reticle. Go get 'em!

The problem is I don't want to buy one for myself, at retail. I want to buy them at dealer and sell them in my shop.
-
If I recall correctly it was Accu-Sport.

The SPR...
Funny thing is I had a distributor that had them listed by Leupold product number, and in stock. Now I can't find the product number anywhere, and the distributor no longer has them listed at all on their site.

Ordered one of these for the shop and sold it. Tried to order more and no distributors even have them listed any more and they are not on the Leupold web site, that i can find any way. Anyone heard anything about them?

I shot a Competition Master for several years. With proper shell selection and diligent maintenance it was a reliable and enjoyable shotgun to shoot. I replaced it at the beginning of this season with a Versamax Tactical and let me say, it's a better shotgun in every way. I got the MVT in April and have not cleaned it or maintained it in any way other than keeping it lubed. It has not failed, or even come close to failing yet. It shoots loads that my 1100 simply refused to work with. Federal Pinks, Winchester Low Recoil Slugs and several hundred rounds of assorted range left overs from the past 10 years. The VMT just eats them all. On top of that it loads much faster than any 1100.
At $800 or so the 1100 is only about $300 less than a Versamax Tactical and an extra $300 spent on upgrading the 1100 does not get it even close to the level of performance of the Versamax. If it is impossible to afford the Versamax then get a Mossberg JM Pro. As others have said before, wile the 1100 is a nice gun, new models and new features have left if far down on the list of competitive shotguns. Benelli, Versamax, Mossberg, FN-SLP, SX-3, all are far superior to the 1100.

Two loads for me. I'm sighted in with 62gr Remington Match but use 55gr ball for anything that doesn't involve small targets past 150 yards.
-
I have used the TACCOM loaders for two matches now, no problems to report so far.
-
CDNN has Remington extended chokes for $9.99 in all the normal constrictions.
Make sure they are Remington Pro Bore chokes, not Rem Chokes.
-
As for the OP's concerns, we have received several VMTs through normal distributor channels and have had no issue with how they were packed. It makes me wonder if the items were opened by the dealer you bought it from.
-
I would prefer if they got rid of that tactical choke and replaced it with a LM extended choke tube...
Mick
+1 to that! I guess they decided that since it was the tactical model they needed to include their 'tactical' choke.

So i need a shotgun for 3 gun. i am just getting into three gun and it is the only gun that i don't have. I like the versa max tacticool, but i can't find one in md.
i have found a winchester sx2 in camo pattern. i could care less about the color. it is reasonably priced, but i believe it is a turkey or duck gun and i am not sure if it will cycle with low brass. not sure if a new versa max will either.
So what are the fixes if you have a gun that doesn't cycle low brass.
The fix is don't buy a gun that won't cycle low brass. I have been running a VMT since April and it has been 100% flawless with all ammo so far. It even cycles the terrible Pink Federal low brass that just killed my 1100. I'm not sure why a dealer in MD can't get you one but if you call us (Sharpshooters Small Arms Range in Lorton, VA) we can order one and have it in in a few days. You can PM me for more info on getting you one if you'd like.

Quick after action report. Ran my Versamax Tactical with the +1 extension at the FN 3-Gun last week. Flawless function with Remington Nitro 27s and Winchester Ranger reduced recoil slugs.
-
Never seen hard cover placed on a target like that before, but I would have no problem with it.
-
Versa max will not feed next shell or bolt doed not close completely with factory ammo. Anybody else has this problem and how did u correct
What brand and load of ammo? Have you tried different loads? Which model of Versa Max? Stock, or has it been modified? If modified what mods were done? The more info you share the better the answer we can give you.

2009 IDPA S&W Indoor Championships. I was shooting a stage were the backstop was fairly close downrange. A full 38 Special bullet came back on my third or fourth shot of six and struck me in the face just under my eye. Prescription plastic lens stopped the bullet enough that it did not penetrate, although the bullet did penetrate the lens. This picture is immediately after it happened.

Not related to the DQ but in the future shoot the gun dry. It is never faster, one shot or ten, to manually unload the gun (a tube fed shotgun)as opposed to just burning the excess rounds into the berm.
-
I use the TAC-30, an earlier version of the MTAC. It is a great scope and I highly recommend it.
Thinking of dumping my 1100 tac 4

Shot last week, two JM's in the squad, both malfunctioned, several times. Do your self a favor and save for the VersaMax.
