Cool, good to see you over here. SSP EX is my goal for this season as well. I'm also hoping to make B in USPSA, but I've really gotta get back on the dry fire horse for that one. Are you planning to do live fire 2-5 times a week? That sounds expensive. I've found that dry fire helps a ton, and best of all it's free. I highly recommend Steve Anderson's dry fire book.

As I said in that thread, the start position of the star wasn't consistent, which changed its reaction to the first hit significantly. Seems like that runs afoul of 4.6.1.

That's brutal on the less skilled shooters, but a good run sure is fun to watch. The start position of the star wasn't consistent from shooter to shooter, which changed how it reacted to the first hit pretty significantly.

If you only need 10 rounds, you can't beat the factory ruger mags.

There's a really easy way to fix that. Add a heavy metal division. CDP pistol, 308 rifle, 12G shotgun.

I might also throw in the fact they have summarily banned shotgun box mags with excludes all the Saiga's. Of course if your already setup for USPSA 3 gun they nailed you too with length restrictions on mag tubes.
What I really find interesting is there is no load limit for rifle whether intentional or not. Previous attempts at IDPA 3 gun rules had it at 10+1.
I don't get the point of a tube length limit if there's already a rather low capacity limit. What's the point?

I do think they could pick a more friendly state for an Area match.

How many clubs are there that are big enough for an area match? MA has the same problems NY does.

All I know is that my friend who spent $170 on a Browning Hi-Power slide stop after getting dqed at indoor nationals for an extended one is going to be PISSED.

I worked the New England Regional IDPA last year. (including building stages) This year I'm planning to work NER again along with CT state IDPA. I could probably comfortably add one or two more, but I don't want to burn out on it and there's only so much time. I also work 1-2 club matches per month.

If your wife ever wants to shoot IDPA seriously, she should start shooting a legal load now.
My wife is 62 years old and suffers from severe RA. She has had both knees replaced as well as one ankle. Her fingers and wrists are so deteriorated that it is painful for her to shoot any load.
I am very proud of her that she even shoots at all.
One does not have to imagine themselves as a Master Class shooter to enjoy it or take it seriously.

Good for her. What I meant was really traveling to sanctioned matches and the like, where there'd be a chrono. Some shooters in perfect health shoot ultralight loads where they can get away with it, which I don't think is ever actually a help. If that's what it takes to keep shooting though, good on her for not giving up.

This is why many folks modify their mags and followers and slidestops so that the gun NEVER locks back.
Not such a good idea for IDPA. It's most likely your thumb hitting the lever.

I haven't had time to check it from a bench in this gun or chronograph it yet. In the BHP it runs about 935 fps and gives real good accuracy. (The last two IDPA matches the wife shot she has had zero points down). It doesn't shoot quite as well in the Super 9 but is plenty good enough for IDPA.
My 9 Pro runs the best around 130-135PF with the factory spring. (I like 147s right around 900fps) If your wife ever wants to shoot IDPA seriously, she should start shooting a legal load now.

Great article on Johnny this month in Front Sight.
One thing I noticed was that they mentioned Phil Strader as the next highest with 4. However, Taran is a 5 gun GM (I remembered from seeing 'five time grand bastard' on his facebook page). Though when I double checked it now, his high percentage in SS is only 92%. I believe he must have gotten bumped for finishing at 97% of Robbie last year at SS nats.

I live in Massachusetts, and when I first got started shooting, I was very curious and concerned about how I'd be perceived. I decided that I wasn't going to hide anything. I wear gun related shirts around, hang targets on my office wall, etc. I've gotten surprisingly few negative reactions. I had one friend who kind of freaked out, but that was it. Most people either are interested / curious and ask a bunch of questions, or just let the topic drop, like any other hobby they aren't interested in.

ETA - I opined on my Facebook page that it might be very interesting to see what would result, now, if someone were to bring forward cases based on the "... and bear ..." part of the Amendment, since a number of states still have no CHL process, or effectively have none (ie, so-called "shall issue" permits)... Composition of the courts aside, and leaving the argument of whether the government should be able to put so-called "reasonable restrictions" on our right to carry arms (Heller reaffirms that they believe they have this right) alone, for the moment... This could also result in those states now having to provide a "must issue" CHL, and force reciprocity across the board, etc... I won't hold my breath, but the implications of incorporation are many and great, and this could lead to a number of better things...
There are two 'bear' cases pending. Sykes v McGinness in California and Palmer v DC.

There are plenty of different brass policies at work. At my first USPSA match (I shot IDPA for 2 years before that), I wasn't used to scoring behind the shooter, so I was afraid of pasting a target that hadn't yet been scored. Instead, I picked up brass and handed it back to the shooter. What a great way to get everyone to like you as a new guy.
At Sunday's IDPA match, I was one of the last staff members there, tearing down the indoor stage. When we got done, the MD asked if we'd gotten any brass yet and told us to have at it. Conveniently the other guys left were 40 and 45 shooters, so I got a huge pile of 9mm. Much better than last months match where there was a guy on our squad with a nutwizard. We thought it was great that he was picking up all of our brass. Then he had a gun problem on the 2nd to last stage and left with all of our brass. I came home to see on a local forum that he sells brass!

I'm enjoying watching the show, but can't help thinking that I'm seeing some really mediocre shooting overall, sprinkled with only a few moments of brilliance.
I realize we haven't seen much from Blake and J.J. and a couple others yet, but seriously.....this is all the better they could do, in terms of casting this thing?
I can think of several truly excellent all-around shooters, guys who can shoot anything well and have proven their ability to quickly master a strange gun, and none of them are on the show!
Ah well.....like I said, I'm enjoying it, and I do think it's good for the game.
Having to give up 30 days of your life is a big deal. So is giving up editorial control of your image, if you make your full time living from shooting related stuff. I think I saw here somewhere that that's why Matt B didn't do it.

How about if something you're about to post makes you think 'this might get the thread locked', you keep it to yourself so we can have a productive discussion here?
I'm all for testing a variety of gun handling skills. Loading a magazine is a gun handling skill. It would be annoying to do it regularly, but I wouldn't mind it every once in a while.
I'm running a 'revo friendly' IDPA match in October and I'm thinking about the mason jar stage mentioned above. I'm only going to make it a 6 round stage. Both to avoid a speed bottleneck if we still get a lot of pistol shooters and to avoid beating people over the head with it.

I think there's a simple fix to the sitting out issue that would help. Instead of not being allowed to sit twice in a row, everyone should have to sit out once before any repeats.

I've often thought it would be really cool to set up all the cameras like you said, and then produce a show in post production to air later. You could tie the timer in to a computer synced with the video feeds. Then you could look at the scores for each target and plug them in to the time of the shot. Then you could generate a hit factor graph that would show on the screen while showing the run. I'm thinking a big bar graph of the current hit factor. So, when you shot points, it would go up, and as non-shooting time passed it would go down. When you hit a penalty, it would go down a bunch. You could superimpose the current stage leader's bouncing bar over the current shooter's bar during the run.

It's a cool concept, but the problem is, I doubt most shooters will set up special gear for just one match.

Maybe don't click on threads about shows that are currently on that you haven't watched? I accidentally clicked on a UFC 115 thread on another forum, but I cursed my own mistake and moved on.
Damn does that zipline look fun.

When I step back up to the press, I give all the stations a quick look, with particular focus on the bullet seating station to make sure there is powder in the case.
I trust the auto-indexing of my 650. If I didn't have an auto indexing press, I probably would have a printed checklist of things to look over each time I step back up to the press after stepping away.
I leave the ram up if I step away from the press. That way there's no question where in the process I am.

Not only did Andre make a mental error on the poker challenge, he made a big one on the elimination range. When he came up to vote, it was Kelly - 2, Denny-1, with Andre and Peter left to vote. If Andre had voted for Denny, it would've been Denny and Kelly in the elimination no matter what Peter did.
