  1. I shot a classifier match on Sunday with my M&P 9Pro. Unfortunately I'm in MA, so I'm stuck with 10 round mags. I had a few issues on reloads where the mags wouldn't seat all the way and required an extra tap to lock in. While I was waiting for my mags to come in, I was using borrowed ones and didn't have a problem. I think the issue is the new follower design. Has anyone else run in to this? I'm going to try swapping in some old style followers from my compact mags and see if that fixes it. Is there a source for the old style followers or a way to modify the new ones to solve this?

  2. This is a bad idea. It would lead to skipping the reload entirely (if you gun holds that much ammo) and taking the single procedural.

I believe that you get one procedural per shot after not performing the reload, not just one procedural total.

Exactly. Under the proposed rule, there is only one shot fired after not performing the reload. That's the problem Gary was pointing out.

  3. I helped out at an intro to IDPA class at one of my regular clubs today. It was great watching 14 shooters (many of whom had never shot from the holster before) learn to be safe competitors and have a good time. Everyone did very well safety wise and there were some pretty good shooters in there too. Great to chalk up 14 more people I'll be happy to see come to the line when I SO.

I highly recommend putting one of these together at your club or helping out if you already do it. There are plenty of people out there curious about our sports who are a little too intimidated to just come to a match. Seeing that light go on when they realize that static shooting at a single target will never be the same is a great feeling.

  4. He was one of the best. He'd always greet me by name with a smile after the first match I ever shot with him. He gave very generously of his time to help out new shooters and make them feel welcome at matches. He worked tirelessly as an RO/SO for many of the New England matches. Rest in peace, Mr Kelly.

  5. Dry firing the Anderson book drills has helped my shooting quite a bit lately.

Do you have a respirator? If so, if I were you, I'd probably shoot the S&W nats, using the respirator for all the time on the range except when I was actually shooting.

Either way, glad to hear your levels are on the way down. See you on the range.

  6. I'm taking the NRA Basic Pistol Instructor course next weekend, and my copies of the student texts arrived in the mail today. I was very happy with the new version of the Basic Pistol book. It's FAR more up to date than the previous book I got when I took the class in 2007.

    Highlights include:

Mod iso stance in most photos (weaver is also covered in the stance section)

thumbs forward is the primary grip taught for semi-autos (thumb on thumb for revolvers, one handed bullseye style grip is relegated to an appendix)

acknowledgement of the use of pistols for personal defense

    includes tap/rack malfunction drill

    section on dry practice

action pistol games featured prominently in the shooting sports chapter

Whoever was involved in this update did a FANTASTIC job. I had some concern about having to teach the 'NRA way' as opposed to the right way, but this new text has alleviated that.

  7. All of my case gauges are "Wilson's" and are a lot tighter than any of my barrels, and they will run "Precision" bullets through them.

Maybe you aren't seating the bullets far enough??

yeah, definitely loading too long, for the gauge. If they drop in and out of the chamber, who cares. Precisions have a sharp angle down to the flat point. This leaves long section at full bullet diamere.

  8. Cool. Obviously, the next question is how long it's going to take them to produce enough, and get the letter sent to USPSA, for them to be legal in Production....I'm good for one, so we've only got 2,499 to go :)

They only need to make 499 more for limited. If I lived in a free state, I'd be sorely tempted to build one up for limited.

  9. I have a whole boatload of nice thick cardboard here at the house and I just need one USPSA silhouette (metric?) target to use as a template to cut my own out of this cardboard. Everywhere I've seen online sells them in packs of 25 or 50, though . . .

It's probably not worth the shipping cost. I'd ask if you could have one of the no-shoots while helping tear down stages at your next match.

  10. Lead test came back from last week- 56!! I was in shock. I practice maybe two times a week indoors now with the winter and all but I had no idea my level would be that high. I did another blood test today to check the levels- I can only pray that they come back low and there was mistake with the first test. I don't eat or smoke when shooting and am always washing my hands. I'm a tad freaked out right now. The irony is a I really don't have any symptoms but was fortunate that I insisted that my Dr test me for lead... he didn't want to.

Oh well... be safe everyone. Damn I love shooting so much this really hurts. This sport is so awesome but now I might have to take some time off. :(

MODS- I hope if there is some discussion on this the thread it can just be moved... I wasn't sure where to put it other than here....

Sorry to hear that Dave. Good luck with getting everything resolved. I've been shooting indoor bullseye this winter, so I'm shooting inside at least once every week. Maybe I should get tested as well.
