  1. If I could count to ten I would be lookin for a 10 shot! I don't see me giving up my Production side in IPSC..... but an 8 shot for ICORE would be fun. Then I could shoot more with the likes of ya'll and get to harass Sasquatch more often. I tell you what... when I shoot with you, I will only load 6 in the moon clips and spin it when loading. Bwana.... isn't that spanish for bat poo? oh, my bad... that would be quana... but it's close!!!!!
  2. These stages are AWESEOME!!! Hopefully the Gator will make me forget about that silly 627.... This is gonna be a blast!
  3. You got THAT right!! Definitely the haircut and NOT the Score. Wonder if there is a way to change it to WinderLikker ??
  4. Here he is shortly after shooting the last stage and getting gear off....
  5. I had no idea! And to think.... I can say I knew her "when"!!! Hey PinShooter/Sasquatch....... You going to be at the Gator by chance? I'll toss for a few if so. Great to shoot with you guys, as well as the rest of the squad. We HAD to have the best squad out there for the Cup! Glad to hear you enjoyed and will be back to Miss'ippi again. Steve/WindowLicker
  6. You revolver shooters are all evil. All I have been doing this morning is looking around for a 627...... Evil I say ..... eeeeeeeevil ..... Steve .....
  7. You can send the whole thing back to Dillon and they will go through it and make it like new, with the new primer catch system and all. My dad got one at a garage sale one time!! That thing was nasty! Rusty, etc. He sent it back and when it returned it honestly looked like they said "Screw It" and just sent him a new one. HA I bought a SD second hand, got on the phone with Dillon and he took me through checking all parts and sent them to me! No charge.
  8. If you are going to be reloading pistol only, I'd suggest a Dillon Square Deal press. It comes with one caliber so you could go ahead and get your 45 ACP ready to roll in no time! I love mine. It's relatively small, easy to use and has the No-BS warranty that Dillon really stands by!!! You'll never regret a Dillon. I reload in my "Man-Room" here in the house. I would recommend a place where it's climate controlled if possible. Not much humidity, etc Some of the basic tools I use are: Powder Scale Brass Tumbler and/or Separator Primer Flip tray Primer Filler Tubes I may have left something out because I'm not looking at my reloading bench now. Someone else will chime in I am sure.
  9. Thanks, I think that answers one of my questions. There are no rubber bands or anything else I am missing around the edges of the tumbler that rides on the metal gears. The hard plastic of the tumbler rides directly on top of those gears. I thought maybe there was a rubber 'ring' or something that I was missing. I was concerned of the gears eating up the plastic over time because mine seemed to be slipping. I'm going to clean and oil it today and I also think part of my problem was that I didn't have much media or brass in there. Was just 'testing it out' with a little. But I think w/o enough weight, it was causing it to slip a little. Thanks again for the pics!!
  10. Mine seems to be slipping. Not the belt, but the container seems to slip on the gears. I thought I might be missing some kind of a rubber band that might go around the edge to help it grip better, but...... don't see anything like that on any pictures I can find. Gears are bare metal... and it appears it's wearing on the tub?? help help
  11. I just picked up some reloading equipment and in the haul was an RCBS Sidewinder cleaner/polisher. In the past, I have always used the vibratory kind and was just curious about this one. I looked up the price and it seems they are selling used for about what I payed for everything I got in the deal. What makes this one so special?? Maybe it's just because I am use to the others, but I would think a big Dillon vibratory cleaner/polisher would be better. Enlighten me oh' wise ones!!
  12. Is anyone shooting the 147 grain loaded with VihtaVuori powder? Was curious what your fps and pf were. I'm about to reload some for mine (Glock 17) on recommendation of Action Shooting Supply.
  13. Ok... mine is DEFINITELY not in the same ranks as these, but.... I'm in hopes to eventually do some 3-gun matches. Waiting on my RRA AR to get back from Birdsong's now. Here is my ol' Benelli M1. No mods other than the extended tube and Birdsong's Green-T & Black-T finish on it. Just an FYI.... my AR will come back in Walter's new Brown-T & Tan-T finish!! I can't wait to see it. I'm lucky enough to live not far from him and get to go visit!
  14. After over 10 years of not shooting competition I got started back, thanks to a new friend of mine. Shot a couple friendly matches, constantly thinking "Don't DQ... Don't DQ..... Finger out of trigger guard..... 180..... etc etc". All was well..... went to another match and walked over for the "first time shooter safety briefing" and was standing there. The RO starting going through the drill and looked over at me and said "This is a perfect example". I could feel my face turning red immediately. I knew EXACTLY what he saw. Had my 1911 in the holster... empty.... no mag.... BUT... the hammer was back! He had me move to the safe station there and go through the drill, lastly dropping the hammer and holstering. Then jokingly said "I had him do that just to show you how easy it is to forget something..... etc etc". Felt like I had a sign on me the rest of the day "GOOBERHEAD". But at the same time, was glad to know he and others are always watching to help keep everyone safe. That said, I don't hesitate VERY NICELY to point out something or go get a RO if I see something. No matter how 'minor' you may think it is. The rules are their for US.
  15. I agree. With it all. I have a G17 that I carry for duty presently (required at the time). Just purchased a XD Tactical in .40 to try out though. I'm in hopes alternating between them won't mess me up. If it does I'll most likely get another Glock (34 or 35) or just shoot my cheap 9mm model 17. I did figure out that if I take a small strip of velcro and wrap through my mag holders it snugs up the XD mags just perfect. Out of the box, I have to say that the XD trigger seems much better. However, for minimal cost you can slick out the Glock's trigger. From what I've seen/read so far, it's a bit more expensive to work on the XD trigger. Over the years though, I have always agreed with what most said here. Shoot them and see what feels best for you. Some people HATE the feel of a 1911 and can't hit the broad side of a barn with one. Others love them and take to them naturally it seems. Kinda like vanilla and chocolate... what's good for one may not be for the next person.
  16. Thanks for all the info! I will pay attention to that slide release and yank it if I see the least bit inclination to screw me up. Yep, shot my 1911 in L-10 last match, have many 10 round mags. I simply love the 1911's. But think it'll be fun to shoot the ol' Polymer in Prod or Limited as well. one can never have TOO many guns. Sure. Glocks (and many other service weapons) tend to have chambers that are cut on the generous side at the mouth to promote reliable feeding. When you reload brass that has been shot in them with normal dies, they can't resize that last little bit near the rim and that keeps them from going all the way into a case gauge. It will likely shoot in another Glock with a similar chamber, but not always. I have seen a fair amount of difference between two otherwise identical looking Glocks....one will really let the back of the case expand noticably more than another of the same model. It's not as much a problem with 9mm as it is with .40, but it's still there. If any other departments besides the SO use that range there's a good chance you can pick up other brass for free as well. One time I picked up about 300 once-fired .308 cases from Federal match ammo after a sniper training day...they were throwing it out! Something that just occured to me is that if you think you might want to shoot Limited-10 or Limited in addition to Production you'll be at a significant disadvantage shooting 9mm with minor scoring. Of course that would be a good argument for another gun R,
  17. Our SO carries either a 17 or 19 Glock. That way ammo ordering/handling is simplified and we always have plenty. A good thing! I just ordered an XD 5" tactical (got a smokin deal from local gun club through Springfield). I am going to give it a try, but will probably end up with a 34 or 35 Glock so as to stay the same whether on range or on street. They are a standard size die. I have never had any issues with my 9mm reloads in my G34. I use Lee 4 die set and everything chambers, every time. Also, even with the stock barrel I get no "bulge" with my G34 and minor loads. I would shoot your carry gun if you carry or very similiar. What do you carry? Edit In production all the glocks you mention are legal and all the mods you mention are legal. I would get good sights on whatever you shoot as well, and some griptape.
  18. I was just about to ask about that. The scoring. That seems to be a factor that I wasn't really aware of. Is it really going to hurt me bad? I have a 1911 for limited I could shoot. I need to do some reading to see what I can do to the gun in Production and not bump up to limited maybe. ugh... decisions decisions Oh.... will these "Lee/EGW U-die" things work in a Dillon 550? are they standard size and all? Or am I going to have to load 'em via single stage press. eeeeeew Yea... new gun. Just bought a RRA AR... Glock 17.... about to order an XD maybe but I think I'll just buy another Glock 40 for limited.... the 35. And I could shoot my 17 in Production. Or can I? I put the 3.5 lb connector, extended slide release and mag release, but all that comes standard/production on the 34.... so could I still shoot my 17? 19. Can you tell me more about what you mean with the Lee/EGW U-die and being shot through a Glock??? I have no clue what that is, just have RCBS and Dillon dies around here. And the 9mm I get (if I do) will be out of Glocks.... so I'm interested in that aspect as well.
  20. Good Point. SO here uses 9mm so..... I think I'll call tomorrow and check on availability of 'free brass'. If I can get free brass..... guess I will be shootin a 9mm!
  21. Not entirely true. At the same power factor a .40 is softer shooting than a 9mm. I don't think it's a huge deal either way, but some people swear by it. Also, the .40 makes a bigger hole that will sometimes get you the next higher scoring ring. I guess it could also get you a no-shoot that you just clip where a 9mm won't but I've never seen anyone mention that Hmmmm..... ok.... for those of you that reload (in process of getting Dillon equipment again now) how much cheaper is 9mm to load up. Say per 500 rounds what is the difference between it and 40? Because it would appear that is the main difference after reading so far. I won't be shooting in any open ever. I have no desire. I would shoot in production/limited/limited 10 only. Shot in limited 10 last match with my 1911. I'm back to simply have fun. No stressing about mistakes or 'edging someone out', etc. If I place last, I plan on having the same amount of fun with it. I'm too old for more stress. lol
  22. Getting started back in shooting after over 10 years of being absent. I have always shot a 1911 and am very comfortable with that. However, I now carry a Glock and would like to shoot the same for competition so if in the unfortunate event I ever have to 'use' my weapon, muscle memory will basically aid in me being as quick as possible. Therefore, I am thinking I should get another Glock other than what I will carry and shoot for fun with it. So.... the question (I know you are thinking "about time") What advantage/disadvantage is there to shooting a 9mm and minor as opposed to a .40 and major? Like I said, I've always shot a 1911 up until this year when I became involved with the local S.O. so the 'jump' of the 40 over a 9mm should not bother me at all and I don't forsee that as a factor. So far I have the following info: 1) 9mm is way cheaper to shoot/reload than 40 2) scoring in minor is better if you are accurate?? I'm just trying to figure out how to base my decision. Also.... I have recently come across a smokin' deal on an XD pistol of my choice. So I'm probably going to end up with one of the 5" tactical pistols. Yep.... don't know if I want to order a 9mm or 40 once again. Any help would be greatly appreciated from you guys.
