  1. The SL Variant Speedloaders for the seven-shot L-Frames work GREAT...I bought five of 'em when Dillon carried 'em...

I told a coupla' "Friends" that they were the one "Thing" that was going in the "Pine Box" with me on the long nap...my WIFE just smiled knowingly, as if to say "Not Really"...That's what I get for buying HER a 686!!!

    It just AIN'T RIGHT, I'm tellin' ya... :angry2: ....mikey357

  2. We had this talk at dinner. You all know what I think.

Did you have the "Liquid Groceries" again at DINNER, hhmmm??? Methinks the answer is "Yes"...

FWIW, I voted "Rocket Scientist", since CERTAIN PEOPLE I KNOW couldn't pass the MATH and PHYSICS CLASSES to be a "Rocket Scientist" but HAVE made it to "GM" in Revo...

BTW, Cliff, you coming to the GA State Steel Match next weekend??? Tony's been practicing up, y'know....mikey357

  3. Hhmmm...somethin' doesn't SOUND RIGHT...AFAIK, EVERY 625 to EVER leave 2100 Roosevelt Ave. in Springfiled, Mass has been built on a ROUND BUTT Frame...I would suggest that you look again, VEWWY CAWEFULLY...

BTW, for those with LARGE HANDS, I suggest trying the wood Hogue Monogrips with NO finger grooves...seems to work as well as anything, and better'n most...and as a previous Poster suggested, check Hogue's Auction site OFTEN...there are DEALS to be found there...HTH....mikey357

  4. One thing to keep in mind with the Model 25 "Classic" is that it's NOT a "Model 25" at all...not with that tapered, "Skinny" barrel...S&W SHOULD HAVE called it a Model 26...

...and then there's the issue of it being chambered in .45 Colt...Converting it and "Moonclipping" it for .45 ACP would PROBABLY work ok, but why do that when you can find a "Real" Model 25 for LESS $$$ THAN you'd end up spending on the .45 Colt/.45 ACP "Hybid"???...HTH....mikey357

  5. ...much of this thread reminds me of a conversaton I had with someone from BERETTA a decade or so ago, when I inquired about a certain model which was offered in Europe but not in the USA. Quote, " Yes, we get a lot of calls on that, there is no demand". :roflol:

    MJ

...or, see my previous post regarding "Business" and "Rational" sometimes being MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE...like in THESE CASES!!!... :roflol::roflol: ....mikey357

  6. I must disagree with the suggestion in another post that if S&W discontinued the 5" 625, it must be for rational business reasons. They have some of the stupidest products imaginable in their line right now. A 5" barreled Model 60--gimme a frickin' break here.

When I worked at XEROX back in the early '80's, I saw first-hand that "Rational" and "Business" were sometimes MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE...seems like S&W has kinda' "Revived" that "Concept" here...

FWIW, I pick up every NICE 25-2 or 625 I can...and keep the BEST one(s) for ME, then pass the rest along...kinda' "Catch and Release", in a way... ...BTW, anyone know where there might be a NICE 6 & 1/2 inch 25-2 BARREL layin' around, gatherin' DUST??? Got a PROJECT in mind, so let me know...TIA....mikey357

  7. Nik is right about the possibility of the trigger bar/striker interface NOT working correctly when "Combining" a First-Gen frame with a later slide, but...IIRC, IF the frame has the "Upgrade" trigger bar, it SHOULD work...IIRC....mikey357

  8. My Wife and Father-in-law both suffer from what the Doc's call a "Familial Tremor"--don't know how that related to an "Essential Tremor", but...

My Wife LOVES shooting her Lou Ciamillo (MGW) tuned S&W Model 19 and Ruger MKII...and she is QUITE GOOD with them, when her health allows her some PRACTICE...

Anyway, several years ago, her Neurologist put her on Inderal and Mysoline (generic name "Primidone") for her "Shakes"...they got MUCH BETTER...with the BENEFICIAL "Side Effect" that she was able to discontinue her Blood Pressure Med because the Inderal controlled her BP adequately by itself!!!

Don't give up...keep plugging away, asking questions...and getting a "Second Opinion" from ANOTHER DOC is NEVER a bad idea, IMHO...HTH, and GOOD LUCK....mikey357

  9. Well, I just HATE to sound like a "Fair Weather Shooter" (not REALLY), but...IF the temp is 45F or above...and IF the WIND is 15 KTS or below...I'll be at Griffin on Jan. 2 shooting (at) Steel...otherwise, me an' the two cats, one dog and the MISSUS' will "Sleep In" and STAY WARM...you comin', Mark? I still have your .40 ammo...even know (about) where it is!!!... :roflol: ...Later....mikey357

  10. Mark, I had PLANNED to come shoot the Jan. 2010 ICORE with you guys...then, when the Jan. schedule was posted at WORK, I was scheduled for some "OT" that day...GRRR...

You'd think that would NOT happen to someone with 28 years plus in...anyway, I'm TRYING to "Swap" my "OT" for another date...IF I am successful, do you plan on running any "Classifier" Stages? Thanks....mikey357

  11. Pulling the trigger faster does not increase the speed or the distance of the hammer fall. There can be no difference between a fast pull and a slow pull in the momentum imparted on the primer. If you're sure this isn't coincidence, you have a timing problem--fast pulls are causing the cylinder to fully carry up, but the slow pulls are not, causing primer hits to be slightly off center on the slow pulls.

All I know is.. when I pull it, the gun goes bang, bang, bang, bang and when he pulls it, it goes bang, click, bang, bang, click.

Same gun, same ammo, different technique. I don't think it's coincidence since we can repeat it.

I also don't think it's a timing problem since the primers look ok, there is no "smear" primer hits.. some indent, some indent but not as deep (misfires). The gun in question also has the same setup as my 610. Reduced power mainspring cranked all the way up and a C&S extended firing pin. The only real difference is that it has about 80,000 less rounds through it.

...just out of curiosity...might your buddy be LEFT-HANDED??? It COULD make a (SMALL) difference in the gun's TIMING...just curious, y'know???.... ....mikey357

  12. Someone needs to make a barrel like that with a front sight. ;)

I'll talk to Master Lee about that and see what can be done.

Sweet, if its a 6 incher, you'll have a customer...

    Thanks

Probably two. We were talking about this at the x17 match... I wanted to get a 617 and have the stock 6" barrel's underlug cut off and possibly have the barrel turned down, but if something like this is available with all the work done already...

What kind of pricing would we be looking at?

...or, you could just buy a used six-inch Model 17 barrel--the "Skinny Barrel" is the one I mean--and have it fitted to your 617...six inches, front sight, and saves on the MACHINING HOURS, dontchaknow???....mikey357

  13. I been up and down since I turned seventeen

I been on top and then it seems I lost my dream

I've got it back, I'm feelin' better ever' day

Tell all those Pencil-pushers, better get outta' my way...

...and then the "Title Verse", which would, of course, give it away....mikey357

  14. Has any one here had a K frame rechambered for moons and 9x23 or 9mm?

Just seeing how well it worked out.

    Thanks Mike

One would have to down load significantly from normal factory spec loads for this to work. 9mm and .38 super rds are typically loaded at pressures above 25-30K and .38 spl loads are in the low to middle teens, with +P in the 18K range.

The K frame has two weak spots, thus not suitable for high pressure rounds. One spot is where the notch is in the cylinder which locks the cylinder from rotating. Those 6 notches are too near cylinder charge holes (chambers) thus the wall thickness of the cylinder at that spot is very, very thin.

The second spot is at 6 oclock on the barrel where it protrudes through the frame just forward of the cylinder. There is a flat cut there so that the cylinder "shaft" can clear the barrel when the cylinder is closed. Another weak spot for high pressure rounds through a K frame.

    MJ

...not sure that I'd agree with MJ's sentiment on the 9x19...I've got a Model 547, Factory-chambered in 9x19, and it handles EVERYTHING I can stuff into the cylinder with aplomb...including some "Plus P Plus" marked BOMBS...now, I'm not SURE that I'd want to fire a K-Frame in 9x23 Winchester!...HTH....mikey357

  15. You do that and I'll look like a production shooter with speedloader carriers going to the middle of my back.

I'm all for high round count stages.

Mikey, work on John and the other roundgun people at Griffin.

    Paul

Paul, I've ALREADY run it by John a coupla' times...he's interested, I just haven't gotten a COMMITMENT from him yet...and Cody wanted to know if you'd let him shoot his STI "Racegun"!!! I explained the meaning of "ICORE" to him...

I need to talk to Tony, too, and see if he can get away for this one...Mark, I'll "PM" ya' in the next coupla' days...later....mikey357
