  1. What powder are you using and what is your charge weight along with your bullet weight?  You should be able to easily google your powder name and caliber/bullet and get some starting load data.

For instance (9mm in my case)  N330 and 124 grain 9mm load.  Gets me all kinds of information.  Or just search in these forums.

  2. I think if you're  trying to learning the timing and feel of the recoil, you need to shoot a similar load, all the time.  However, if you have to use both, I'd train with the hot stuff and shoot matches with the soft stuff, just to help your splits.  Might be a good idea to chrono both loads to make sure they make PF before getting too invested.

  3. Just pony up the extra $$ and get the JP5.  Though I heard they have developed a failure to extract, mine has been 100% and is the funnest gun to shoot in my safe.  My 10 year old put about 200 rounds through mine last weekend and wants to go again this weekend.  It may be the hook I've been looking for to get him into shooting.

What did Staccato do to your gun? I had an STI that had the same issues but with irons. Sent it back to STI and they ended up replacing the barrel to fix the issue. Was a little bummed since the old chamber was cut so long I could load 170gr 9mm without running into OAL issues. Those loads shot so soft.

All they did was mount the optic to the slide.   I'd stripped a screw on the sight cover plate of the CS and since I was sending it back to be fixed, I sent both slides to have the pros mount the optics.

I took the XC back to the range today.  First group at 25 was just over an inch, but a  little to the left.  I gave it 5 clicks and called it good.   Never got another 1" group, but it hit everything I aimed at.  I think I'm expecting too much out of the optic/platform.

  5. I got my Staccato XC back from the factory with the DPP mounted and went to the range to zero it yesterday.  I think the DPP may be broken as the vertical adjustments made very little difference on bullet impact at 25 yards off of a rest.  I finally got it to the bullseye, but was at maximum vertical elevation.  In addition to the elevation being a little wonky, the pistol wouldn't shoot a nice small group.  I also zeroed a 3.5" CS with a 4 pound trigger and Holosun optic.  Same ammo, shooter and rest.  That little gun was shooting a 1" group in less than 10 shots of adjustment.

I shot a plate rack at 35 yards with the XC multiple times with no issues and shot an IDPA match with it last night.  The only thing I can come up with for the lack of accuracy from the rest (other than the optic) is that maybe I had the dust cover to shallow in the V of the rest and it was causing some flex in the grip/frame?

Anybody had similar issues with their DPP?

I attached the group from the CS.  The holes outside the orange were the few shots it took to make the adjustments.

Ok, I’m sure you guys get this about 3 or 4 times a week but couldn’t find the threads when looking through the forum so I’ll ask them again.

Just got an XL750 to start loading and have some questions I’m hoping some of you would be willing to help with. A little background, I will be loading 9mm for a Masterpiece Arms DS9 with a ported barrel and without a ported barrel (I swap them out to shoot different divisions). My experience with reloading - zero or less if that’s possible.

    Questions:

    1. What brand bullets do you guys recommend?  I’ll be getting all weights just to test with but have no idea what is a good brand to start with.

    2. What brand of powder?  I’m sure there are a ton of options here and they are all probably application specific but for someone just starting, what would be a good one to start with?

    3. Im sure there will be differences between the powders that I should use for the ported and non ported barrels, any insight or tips?

    4. Where do you guys order this stuff from or do you get it locally?

thanks for any help you can provide.

Find a local  friend who has a lot of reloading experience and have them set up your press for you.  Buy them dinner for their trouble.  Have them watch you load a couple hundred rounds.

My most accurate load, while not the softest is 4.9 grains of N330 under an RMR 124 grain TC Matchwinner to 1.125".  Insanely accurate out of P320s or Staccatos.

  7. 0.87 is smoking fast.  Yet it really depends on if you can do it on demand, repeatedly.  I used to do a consistent 1.0 draw to first shot from a Ghost holster back when I was really trying to make Master.  Sure,, I do some under and some over depending on how well I saw my sights, but the average was around 1.0.  Now, 10 years later, I'm at 1.25 out of an IDPA legal holster.  I measure that by shooting 8" (maybe 6) plates on a plate rack at 10 yards.

to me it makes sense to compete with a flashlight if you normally carry (concealed or on-duty) with a flashlight. I don't have a flashlight on my carry gun, so i don't use one at matches. very very very few high-level shooters have flashlights. that tells me something.

In my experience, holsters that allow a light, suck.

  9. I've been waiting for a couple new Staccatos for a while now.  A CS for work and an XC for IDPA.  Finally got them this weekend and went to mount the DPP on the CS.  Followed Dave Dawson's instructions and still stripped the mounting screw, trying to remove the rear sight plate.  I've successfully done this multiple times in the past.  Now I have to pay a local Smith to remove the screw, so I think I'll just pay to have the optics mounted as well......
