Most ranges will require #4 or smaller birdshot for clays and steel, and slugs for paper targets.
If looking for some 3-gun matches near you please try www.orpci.org This the Owensboro Rifle and Pistol Club. We try to do 4 to 5 3-gun matches a year and 9 monthly USPSA pistol matches. You can contact me for more info.

www.swfa.com list the prices of the scopes Simmons at 80, Weaver at 150 and Millett at 200.

The first question on the FFL form goes something like this " Are you purchasing this firearm for youself " answer that incorrectly, they can not go on to question number 2.

if you are looking at shotgun scope at a low price tag then the BSA Cateye scope 1.5-4.5 is a very good low end scope. It's optics are at least good as the Simmons. I have used one of these on my slug gun for several years and it has held up to 3 in 12 ga. slugs and turkey loads.
The Weaver and Millet are a better choice for rifles and 3-gun.

As a RO, I do not talk to or ask the shooter questions most of the time. At a level II 3-gun match my stage was a handgun/rifle stage, where the handgun was loaded and placed in a box on a table and the rifle was at low ready in a prop that was to helicopter, sitting on a bench seat. Before the make ready I reminded the shooters that the gun does not have to be loaded at the Make ready command, they have until just before the Standby command before the gun needed to be loaded. I only did this because of the unusal start position in a tight area. It also gave the shooter all options for sight pictures and how they could best get a feel for their choice of position on the bench seat.
If you really watch the shooter closely, you will know when they are ready to start and be given the Are you ready command.

In Indiana, we have 2 types of permits, Hunting/Target and personnel protection. Both require that the person be at least 21 years old. Oddly a person under 21 can own(given as a gift) a handgun but can not purchase, transport or shoot the handgun without an adult who has a permit.

The shooter may holster the gun, so no rules were broken. It is better to have the gun holstered than in the hands of someone who is mad at himself because he knows he messed up. The RO did his job and made sure to give the If Clear command
-
It is a DQ, and you should place a dropped gun into the holster, not hand it back to the shooter.

You can ask to be moved up to a higher class except to GM. GM is earned by results only.

As a RO/CRO, I have got to the point that I do not watch steel as it is being shot, because it hurts too darn bad when the jackets come flying back.

I got my joggers stroller off Ebay for less than 40 bucks plus 12 for shipping. Installed two sets of gun holders, one straight and one offset at a cost of 42 for the holders. Total of 92 dollars in the whole setup.

I would suggest a White Oak Arm. Varmit upper. I did an upgrade to a SPR barrel and then had a Benny Cooley comp fitted and blended to the barrel, with a Rifle length gas system, forward assist, dust cover and a low profile gas block. All said and done for around $800. That is a very good place to start for 3 gun.

As a shooter , I would ask for the Rangemaster to deterime if a reshoot should be issued. The reason for this is the RO thinks he did not do anything wrong or he would have said something to the shooter at the end of the COF. All reshoots are issued for good reason and with a rule to back it up. To many times a reshoot is offered to a shooter as a choice to reshot or not.

.223 is a minor rifle. If it has a short barrel it may not make min. power factor.

Sorry, I thought they were asking about this Saturdays monthly pistol match(5/16) not the State multi-gun match.
-
Registration at 9:00 am, Range goes hot at 10:00 am. ORPCI is in the central time zone.
-
The shooter must be able to shoot the COF freestyle, so it is not up to the RO to tell him how to shoot it.
It should have been a reshoot for sure, but reshoots are (at least should be) based on the rulebook and are given by the RO. Shooters can ask for the rules to be applied, it is the Range Officials responsibility to issue reshoots. When a reshoot is requried the shooter has no option but to reshoot the stage. I have seen the RO ask the shooter if he wants a reshoot or not. The RO should ask if the shooter feels he was interferred with, if he answers yes it is a reshoot, if he answers no then stage should be scored as shot.

We are going to use the USPSA rules listed in the above reply. Chrono will be used to make sure that minor power factor is being made. I believe the heavy metal div. still has to make major as per the provisional rules for that division.
First Place (lowest time) for each stage, in each division, will receive 100
points; Second Place and below will figure points on a percentage basis of
the 100 from 1st Place.
9.2.2
Total points accumulated for all stages will determine the match placement
by division.
9.2.3
Highest score wins.
There will still be each division and all classes within each division for match placement.

Change the mag release to a good stainless steel release and use STI mags, with a little tuning they will work very well in 1640's.

Try Gunbroker! I've found a 1" one piece mount on there thas quite similar to the Armalite/ B-square one but for less that $20 in th Ar parts Section. Hope that helps.
The millett is a 30mm scope so do not order a 1" one piece mount for it.

YHM mounts come in 5 and 7 inch long. Works the best for me with standard rings to get a soild cheek weld to the tube with an ACE stock or Med rings for regular A2 stock.

I watch the shooter and wait on them to get into the start position and stop all movement before giving the ARE YOU READY, then I do not except a reply. If the shooter moves or take a deep breath then I will issue the ARE YOU READY again. Every shooter needs to be given his or her best opportunity on every stage of every match.
One thing that bugs me is the RO wanting to small talk while you are getting ready to shoot a stage.
If you get an RO that says IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE COURSE OF FIRE they will want an answer to ARE YOU READY.

Non-detergent oil is used in most things that do not have an oil pump. Push type lawn mowers etc... use the crankshaft or an oil slinger to splash the oil on the inside of the engine to lube the moving parts and that is what make it foam.

Tell City, In has a Holiday Inn Express and and a Ramada limited both are located behind the Mc donalds just 11 miles from the ranage. There are several fast food and some good places to eat close by. Lewisport is in a dry county in Kentucky, so it does not have much nightlife.
The stages are getting the finishing touches and should be out soon.

If shooting heavy metal class in USPSA, you are already limited in rounds, so just start with the Mossberg ( 5+1 ), then look to see what will work best for you later.
